EXCLUSIVE: Sandara Park reveals having many suitors

57_big

Asian superstar Sandara Park did not bat an eyelash when asked about her love life.

In an exclusive interview with Push.com.ph after her press conference for local clothing brand Penshoppe, Sandara admitted that she does have a number of suitors.

Pero hindi pa ako sumagot kasi siguro feeling ko gusto ko munang mag-work and concentrate muna,” she explained. (“I haven’t answered/entertained them because I feel like I want to focus on work and concentrate first.”)

It seems though that the Pambansang Krung Krung is not closing her doors on love.

“I can’t promise na hindi ako magkaka-love life kasi if one day nandiyan ‘yung prince charming ko, hindi ko alam kung ano ang gagawin ko,” she said. “Baka sabihin ko sa Instagram ‘Uy may boyfriend ako!’ Hindi ko rin alam.” (“I can’t promise that I won’t have a love life in the future, because what if one day my Price Charming appears; I don’t know what I’ll do. Maybe I’ll post on Instagram and say, ‘Hey, I have a boyfriend already!’ I don’t know.”)

Last year, Sandara was rumored to be dating My Love From The Star actor Kim Soo-hyun after they were reportedly spotted having dinner together.

While she remains to be single, Sandara is very close to a number of boys under her management label YG Entertainment. Just last year, Sandara’s closeness with them made headlines after she posted photos of her with boy group iKON and rap trio Epik High.

Nakakatuwa kasi ako ‘yung Ate pero feeling nila sila ang Kuya,” shared the 31-year-old star. (“It’s really funny because I’m their noona, but they feel that they’re my oppas.” <pertaining to iKON>)

She continued, “So parang nakakatawa ‘yung mga relationship ko with the boys. Ngayon nakakalungkot kasi sobrang busy sila. Meron silang tour all over the world so parang hindi kami nagkikita.” (“So my relationship with the boys is really delightful. But it’s saddening because they’re super busy nowadays. They have a world tour, so we can’t see each other.”)

However, Sandara admitted that they do get in touch even if they are miles apart.

“Yes naman. Kapag may birthday, happy birthday ganyan,” she said. (“Yes, of course. If it’s someone’s birthday, we greet each other ‘happy birthday’ stuff like that.”)

After her official events with the clothing brand, Sandara spent some down time in Tagaytay and a theme park in Laguna.

News: Inquirer ~ “Sandara, Forever a Filipino Darling”

Sandara, forever a Filipino darling

dara11

It’s inevitable. When you’re interviewing Sandara Park, you will end up switching to Tagalog. It shouldn’t be a surprise, really, because long before she became 2NE1’s Dara, she was the Philippines’ “Pambansang Krung Krung,” who first stole hearts with her tearful Star Circle Quest audition.

Penshoppe flew Sandara to Manila last week for a series of events.

“Even while still at the airport, I already felt like ‘I’m home!’ When I got off the plane, a lot of people were already calling out to me, ‘It’s Sandara, it’s Sandara.” Wow, I’m back.” she told members of the media at her press conference.

Penshoppe signed Sandara as one of their ambassadors last year, adding her to their lineup of supermodels and Asian superstars. “Who wouldn’t say yes to Penshoppe? I love their clothes and I love Penshoppe even more because they’re (the management and staff) really funny, they’re really cool. They’re very easy to work with.

Sandara, who has been wearing Penshoppe since her high school days in the Philippines, added, “I’m really happy that I became a part of Team Penshoppe. It’s like a dream come trye. I feel like Penshoppe and I really match each other.”

SANDARA at Penshoppe’s DenimLab fashion show in Trinoma

“Dara’s fun and quirky personality and take on fashion represents very well what Penshoppe stands for,” said Jeff Bascon, Penshoppe’s brand director.

It’s remarkable how real, grounded and endearingly unassuming Sandara has remained despite her fame.

This is Sandara,” she introduced herself, first at the press conference at Edsa Shangri-La Hotel and then later that day at Penshoppe’s DenimLab fashion show at Trinoma’s Activity Center, as if they didn’t know who she was, like she wasn’t the reason people had flocked to the hotel and the mall in droves, like she wasn’t the cause of their fervent screaming.

AT THE Meet and Greet at SM North Edsa’s Sky Dome

The next day, at her Meet and Greet event at SM North Edsa’s Sky Dome, she expressed concern for her fans. “Do not push so no one gets hurt… I saw your pictures when you were at the queue outside where it was very hot, so I’m worried about you guys.”

She had talked about her Filipino fans at the press conference too. “My fans are very passionate and kind, cute. Especially the fans here in the Philippines, they’re really something else. Since 2004 when I was still at SCQ, and until now, they’re still here. So every time I see them, I get so touched and thankful. We have a really unique friendship.”

E_2-3

GREETING one of her fans

When her fans sang to her at the Meet and Greet, she said, “You guys are the best!

She was grateful for the chance to see them, she said. “There are so many people! There’s only a few chances that we see each other, so I’m very grateful.”

She showed her gratitude in many ways. First, by accommodating 50 more fans for the meet and greet than the originally planned 100, gamely posing with them and greeting each one with hugs and her trademark warmth. And then by making the effort to get out of the car to say hi to the fans who weren’t lucky enough to get inside the venue and who had waited for her for hours outside.

When the meet and greet was over, she didn’t want to go. “I don’t want to go just yet, what to do?” she asked host Robi Domingo. Then she turned to her fans, “I really, really love you all.

The feeling is mutual. Seventeen-year-old Angela Breze said, “My love for Sandara is really great because of her Filipino heart. Everywhere she goes, she brings us with her and it’s the same thing with us, she’s always in our hearts.”

Chris Althea Macaisa, 15, was still holding a placard as she gushed about Sandara after the meet and greet. “I really, really like her cuteness and her being so kind all the time, and it’s also like she doesn’t get older. “

Sandara may have left the country but she is looking forward to coming back for her future projects with Penshoppe. “More pictorials, also I hope for meet and greets in other cities like Cebu, hopefully, I wish.”

FIVE MINUTES WITH SANDARA

INQUIRER: How does it feel to be back in the Philippines?
DARA: It feels so good. This event was the only thing I waited for in Korea. I was looking at the calendar thinking ‘one more day, one more day.’

INQUIRER: You’ve worked with Penshoppe for a while now, what do you like about the brand?
DARA: First of all, I like the clothes and the people at Penshoppe are very easy to work with and hardworking. Every time we have a photo shoot, the concepts are really good so I enjoy it a lot.

INQUIRER: Do you have other favorites from the new Penshoppe collection?
DARA: Earlier I got the wide-leg and pants and cropped paints… Their jeans have a lot of various styles. I wear them with T-shirts, simple T-shirts with sneakers.

INQUIRER: Are you excited about the meet and greet tomorrow?
DARA: Of course! I’m excited but so nervous at the same time. I texted the manager of Mario Maurer earlier and asked, ‘What do you usually do during meet and greet?’ and the manager told me, ‘We play and take pictures,’ so wow, I’m really, really excited.

INQUIRER: Do you know some of the fans who will be going tomorrow?
DARA: I know them, I know their faces, I saw them earlier during the press con. I’m expecting them (to come) tomorrow, and the new (fans) as well.

INQUIRER: Your Filipino fans are incredibly loyal, what would you like to tell them?
DARA: “That’s just it, they’re really very loyal. Sometimes I really want to cry when I think, ‘what do I even give them that they’re still there (for me) until now?’ I don’t even have a lot of projects in Korea and our group is kinda mysterious, so we don’t have a lot of TV shows, but they’re still there. I can’t say much more than ‘thank you’ and that I love them.”

INQUIRER: How long are you staying on this trip?
DARA: Only for four or five days. Because I have a TV show in Korea called “Sugar Man,” and the taping/recording is every Wednesday.

INQUIRER: What other projects should your fans watch out for?
DARA: My upcoming movie. I would also like to try different things like Koreanovela (K-Dramas).

INQUIRER: Tell us about the movie.
DARA: The movie is about the music. We’re done filming, we’re editing it now. Very interesting, it’s about music. For my role, I have a disease where I can’t hear music. When there’s music around, I see it all as colors, so it’s like ‘stop it, stop it.’

INQUIRER: I know you always meet up with old friends, what else are you doing on this trip?
DARA: I’m planning to meet some of my friends, but aigoo, I hope that the others don’t get upset with me, because I have a lot of friends but I don’t have the time to meet all of them. But I’ll come back. I realized that Korea is really near the Philippines anyway, just three hours and twenty minutes. I can come back any time I want.

INQUIRER: We know you love Filipino food, what was the first thing you ate when you landed?
DARA: Yesterday? First, someone gave me Jollibee’s peach mango pie. So I ate it at once. Then after, we went to Luneta Park and I ate sinigang and sisig.

INQUIRER: What else do you want to eat on this trip?
DARA: There’s a lot. But I’m sure I’m going to eat sisig and sinigang again.

Sandara Park recently appeared on Get It Beauty Self, Episode 16 where she opened up her make-up pouch, showing the items she loves to use often.

Sandara Park revealed that her recently loved items are the “GD cushion” and “Dara cushion,” and she even gave her own tips on how to use them personally.

An official from YG Entertainment’s subsidiary company, YG Plus, which markets the cosmetic brand “moonshot” revealed that, “Our two new products, the GD Cushion which is the ‘micro fit cushion SPF 50+ PA+++’ and the Dara cushion ‘SPF 50+ PA+++’ are, as of now, sold out.”

News: “Sugarman” Sandara Park, Working in Public Relations Aside from Being MC? Assists in Scheduling Singers

“Sugarman” Sandara Park, Working in Public Relations Aside from Being MC? Assists in Scheduling Singers

2016031101000869300057771_99_20160310102704

MC Sandara Park was revealed to have been involved in having iKON, WINNER as “Show Men” and is actively functioning as public relations director.

Idols from YG Entertainment, iKON and WINNER, have participated in JTBC’s “Two Yoo – Sugarman Project.” On the January 19 broadcast, iKON appeared as “Show Men” where they did a rendition of Mose’s “It’s Love,” while WINNER appeared last March 8 and did a rendition of Hey’s “Je T’aime.” Insider talks reveal that MC Sandara Park, who is also PR Director, influenced the negotiation for guesting on the show (T/N <pointing out the obvious>: meaning that Dara had a hand in bringing them to guest as a show, by recommending them to the show’s producers and also clearing their schedule so they could appear.)

201603101023770716_56e0ccab99b2f_99_20160310103005

On the 10th, JTBC revealed that the biggest hurdle in getting idols to perform on the show is their tight schedules both locally and internationally, so Sandara Park often communicated with the managers of iKon and WINNER so she could arrange their schedules so that the idol groups were free to guest in “Sugarman.” In fact, it can be seen that Sandara Park is not only working as YG Entertainment’s public relations director, but is actually involved directly in YG promotion and arranging Show Men public relations at the same time.

In addition to being a mainstay and MC in “SugarmanSandara Park is being regularly contacted by the main writer as a public relations liaison/contact. Whenever “Sugarman” proposals are up, she regularly gives ideas and recommendations on the Sugar Men (T/N: previous artists who were famous), producers, and artists that can come out on the show (T/N: the show’s “Show Men”); seeing her willingness to participate even in the public relations side of the show, apart from being an MC, which is also her first time doing so, shows Sandara Park’s considerable enthusiasm in this undertaking.

That’s not all. JTBC representatives revealed, “Sandara Park is closely doing public relations for Lee Hi, who recently released her album, and also group Akdong Musician, who are expected to release an album as well; she also has strong determination for a Big Bang performance in the future as well.

Sugarman” broadcasts every Tuesday nght at 10:50 PM.

1. [+2490, -93]  How can she be such a gorgeous baby face ㅜ Happy birthday!

2. [+1642, -55]  Happy Birthday Sandara Park~ hope you have a lovely day~!

3. [+1401, -77]  Super pretty.  I’m crying ㅜㅜ

4. [+1316, -67]  Wow… totally a goddess…

5. [+1164, -52]  She’s really pretty.  Happy Birthday Sandara❤

(T/N: ‘Babyface’ is a word used in Korean to describe someone who looks very young despite their age.)
6. [+213, -9]  There’s no denying that Sandara Park’s a babyface but what’s more amazing is that her face isn’t “baby-like” at all like Moon Geunyoung’s or Park Boyoung’s.  Her face is innocent yet lady-like and her age doesn’t seem to show through it.  As a woman myself, I think she has the best face.

7. [+163, -17]  I feel that out of all the female idols Sandara can be part of the Top 3 companies’ beauties along with Suzy and Yoona ㅠㅠ  I’m really curious as to why they didn’t push Sandara Park forward more ㅋㅋ  I’m thinking it might have had something to do with the great image 2NE1 had as an artist and a group… They should really try to push her more in dramas and movies and let her branch out in that area… she was so pretty during her Etude CF days too… It’s super hard to find a beauty like her… It’s a waste to just keep letting her age.  Anyway, she’s gorgeous

8. [+138, -4]  It was only because her group’s concept was unusual and convoluted but if you think about it, she’s totally in the upper ranks when it comes to girl group visuals

9. [+140, -11]  She needs a good scolding, how is that the face of a 30 year old?  Dara, we need to have a talk

10. [+125, -9]  So pretty… I really can’t see her as being 32 years old

11. [+111, -3]  Sandara really fits a light, innocent make-up look better than heavy make-up!

12. [+109, -6]  This unnie is an ’84er? …. So she’s really 32 years old?…. Is she a vampire or what ㄷㄷㄷ  How is she not aging?  What a total baby face dang

13. [+99, -4]  A celebrity that I want to see succeed even more

14. [+94, -6]  For a second I thought she was getting married… wow, her age doesn’t affect her beauty at all.  How can those looks be that of a 32 year old’s?

15. [+67, -4]  If she’s already this pretty on pictures, bet she’s even prettier in person…

2. [+559, -44] Dara unni is a stunner

3. [+464, -37] Sandara does match the beauty of a jasmine

5. [+400, -51] I wanna hear 2NE1 sing ㅠ

6. [+63, -7] No weird hairstyle or facial expressions in this photoshoot. Damn pretty!

7. [+63, -11] Isn’t she too beautiful? It’s unrealistic^^ She’s naturally pretty~ Happy Birthday, Happy Sandara Day, Goddess Sandara Day~~

8. [+47, -8] She proves that age is a number… Her face stays youthful

Feature: Inquirer~ “Sandara Park is Penshoppe’s Newest Ambassador: The K-Pop Superstar and Forever ‘Pambansang Krung-Krung’ on her Fashion Obsessions, her Filipino Fans, and her Undying Love for Jollibee”

Sandara Park is Penshoppe’s newest ambassador
THE K-POP SUPERSTAR AND FOREVER ‘PAMBANSANG KRUNG-KRUNG’ ON HER FASHION OBSESSIONS, HER FILIPINO FANS AND HER UNDYING LOVE FOR JOLLIBEE

Penshoppe-Urban-Rebels-Sandara-Park-3

It’s a Thursday afternoon in July at the headquarters of Golden ABC in Quezon City and, for most of its employees, it was business as usual.

But on the fifth floor, at Studio 1155 and the Gallery, a big secret: K-Pop superstar Sandara Park was shooting her first campaign for Penshoppe.

She posed effortlessly in front of the camera, rocking a hat and vest from an upcoming collection as 2NE1 songs blasted from speakers.

“She’s a very good mover, she has a beautiful face, she’s very charming. I think that she takes direction beautifully. She’s very energetic,” said photographer Cliff Watts, who also shot Cara Delevingne and Sean O’Pry for Penshoppe. Cliff flew in from New York for Sandara’s shoot.

After booking three supermodels in a row—Cara, Sean, Kendall Jenner—Penshoppe may surprise fans with its choice of new endorser. But it makes sense, given Penshoppe’s expansion to other Asian countries. The brand already has stores in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Indonesia and Cambodia, and it will be opening two stores in Vietnam in October.

Global

Penshoppe-Urban-Rebels-Sandara-Park-4

We wanted to get someone who would complete our Asian Superstars pool. To join Mario Maurer, we picked Dara. She’s well loved by Filipinos but at the same time is very global. Her sense of style and fashion pretty much sealed the deal for us. As we go more regional, tapping the Asean countries, we feel that Dara is the ideal brand ambassador to help us reinforce our international vision,” said Jeff Bascon, Penshoppe’s brand director.

Asked why she said yes to becoming the new face of the brand, Dara said, “Because I love Penshoppe. Talagang sinusuot ko yung Penshoppe since high school days pa lang.(I love Penshoppe. I really wear Penshoppe clothes ever since my high school days.)

She recalls a red Penshoppe shirt that she couldn’t stop wearing. “I wore it so much. When I see my pictures from high school, ’Huh? Ito na naman suot ko?’ (Huh? I’m wearing this again?) It’s funny.

Long before Dara conquered the K-Pop world, she was the Philippines’ “Pambansang Krung-Krung,” the quirky, funny, pretty Korean girl who melted hearts with her tearful Star Circle Quest audition and charmed her way into show business. She bagged commercials, starred in TV shows, made movies and released songs like the then-inescapable “In or Out.”

As she sat in front of us after the shoot, wearing a cat beanie and a blue Penshoppe polo with another adorable cat peeking from its pocket, it’s easy to forget that this is Dara from the massively popular K-Pop group 2NE1, the ubiquitous presence in Korean fashion magazines, the actress who just finished two Korean web dramas (“Dr. Mo Clinic” and “We Broke Up”) and who is about to star in her first Korean film.
It’s easy to forget that this is a girl whose every move is chronicled by K-Pop websites and blogs devoted to her, whose adoring fans create YouTube videos as a tribute to her and her cuteness. It’s easy to forget all that when she begins waxing poetic about Jollibee, which she requested to have for lunch that day. “Always the same, spaghetti with chicken pero spicy chicken and dapat may Jolly Hotdog. That’s my favorite,” she said.

It’s easy to forget, too, when she insisted on speaking Tagalog during the interview, something she doesn’t get to do in Korea. According to her, “Nagte-text ako ng Tagalog but in Korea nobody can speak Tagalog so medyo nabubulol ako.” (I text in Tagalog, but in Korea, nobody can speak Tagalog, so I’m stuttering a bit now)

She may have moved back to her birth country, but the Philippines will always be her second home. “Ang dami kong memories. I miss this place,” she said. (I have so many memories. I miss this place.)

And Filipinos miss her too, welcoming her excitedly at each visit. “Hindi pa rin nila ako nakakalimutan,” (They still haven’t forgotten me) she said. Sandara hasn’t forgotten either; her Twitter handle is @krungy21 and her bio includes “Pambansang Krung-Krung ng Pilipinas.”

Dara may be a Korean superstar, but she will always be a Filipino darling.

Sandara-interview-2

What do you like about Penshoppe?

It really fits my personality, and gusto ko yung mga style nila, iba’t iba. Like yung mga sinuot ko ngayon, may hip-hop, may cute, girly clothes, meron ding sexy. I can show many sides of Sandara Park. (It really fits my personality, and I like their styles, so diverse. Like the outfits I wore today, there’s hip-hop, cute, girly, and sexy clothes. I can show many sides of Sandara Park)

How was the shoot?

It was super fun. Medyo mainit sa rooftop pero sobrang ganda ng mga pictures so hindi ako nahirapan. (It was super fun. It was a bit hot at the roofto[, but the pictures came out very prettily, so it wasn’t hard)

What did you think of the clothes?

I love them. Kinuha ko nga, eh. Sabi ko, “Can I have it?” (laughs) (I love them. In fact, I bought them. I said, ‘Can I have it?’)

So you’re bringing some back to Korea with you?

Yes!

Did you have favorite pieces from the shoot?

Yes, meron akong favorite pants na sinuot ko kanina. Talagang hinahanap ko yung ganung style pero wala akong nahanap. Then, nakita ko ngayon and size ko pa. Extra small. So sabi ko, this is mine. They’re black pants na parang skinny pero may chuva-chuva dito. (Yes, I have a pair of favorite pants that I wore earlier. I really looked for one with that style, but I couldn’t find any. Then, I saw it earlier and it was in my size too. Extra small. So I said to myself, this is mine. They’re black pants that are skinny-like but with some details)

Penshoppe-Urban-Rebels-Sandara-Park-1

How does it feel to be back in the Philippines again?

So good. Parang feel at home. Naho-homesick na naman ako eh, so yeah. (So good. Like, I feel at home. I felt homesick anyways, so yeah)

When you’re in Korea, what do you miss the most about the Philippines?

Marami, pero siguro yung food. So sometimes I go to Filipino restaurants in Seoul. Masarap naman, pero syempre mas masarap dito. (A lot, but maybe the food. So sometimes I go to Filipino restaurants in Seoul. They’re delicious, but of course, the taste is here is different, yummier.)

What do you normally eat there?

Sinigang. And sisig. Lechon. Yeah, I order a lot.

You ate Jollibee today. Is Jollibee something you miss also?

Yes. Ang sarap. Walang Jollibee sa Korea. And there’s something special about their spaghetti. (Yes. So yummy. There’s no Jollibee in Korea. And there’s something special about their spaghetti)

Do you ever watch your old videos from your time in the Philippines?

Of course. I love watching my old movies. Minsan nahihiya ako kasi eh… parang… ginawa ko yan? Sinabi ko yan? Pero it’s still a memory so I love watching my old movies. (Of course. I love watching my old movies. But sometimes, I get embarrassed…. like…. I did that? I said that? But it’s still good memories, so I love watching my old movies)

When was the last time you watched your Star Circle Quest audition?

Medyo matagal na siguro, mga one year. Pero meron pa ako sa iPad ko. Pero hindi maganda yung quality. (It’s been a while, maybe one year. But I have a video in my iPad. But the quality isn’t good)

Are you still in touch with your Filipino friends?

Yes. Of course, yeah. Super hi-tech na ngayon, so text.

Are you going to see them while you’re here?

Yes, actually na-meet ko na si Joross nung first day pa lang. And then I’m going to meet more friends.

What’s the best thing about being a K-Pop star?

Siguro being loved by all the fans all around the world and being able to travel to different places. Sobrang gandang experience.

2NE1 is on a break now…

Yeah, we’re all doing individual activities for now.

When will people get to see you guys as a group again?

Hindi ko masabi. We don’t plan things. Pero if we have a good song, sige, release na natin, next month na! Pero pag walang inspiration, pag walang good song, it can take one year, two years, katulad dati. I’m waiting for a good song and inspiration. (I can’t say. We don’t plan things. It’s like, if we have a good song, then next month, we’ll release it! But if there’s no inspiration, if there are no good songs, it can take one year, two years, like before. I’m waiting for a good song and inspiration)

Do you still get to hang out with them?

Yeah, of course. Pero si CL nasa LA ngayon so (feigns crying) nami-miss ko siya. (Yeah, of course. But CL is in LA right now so (feigns crying) I miss her)

What was it like working on those web dramas in Korea? Is it different from acting in the Philippines?

Pareho lang, kaya it helped a lot. Matagal nga akong hindi umarte pero naalala ko yung mga dati kong experiences dito so parang it was not hard. I had fun. Yung dalawang web drama na yun super different characters, yung isa sobrang umiiyak lagi pero yung isa super naughty kaya super fun. (It’s still the same, so it helped a lot. It’s been a long since I acted, but I remembered all the experience I had here, so it wasn’t too hard. I had fun. The two web dramas I made had super different characters, one cried a lot but the other one was super naughty, so it’s super fun)

768-x-1024-dara

Is it true you’re doing the Korean adaptation of “Begin Again”?

Yes, pero actually, it’s not the same story as “Begin Again.” We have our own story. Pero it’s related to music, that’s why siguro they say it’s the Korean version. But it’s not. (Yes, but actually, it’s not the same story as ‘Begin Again.’ We have our own story. But since it’s related to music, maybe that’s why they say it’s the Korean version. But it’s not)

Have you started working on it?

Not yet, but I’m going to start shooting very soon.

How do you juggle your love for music and acting?

Syempre I love doing both. Sa latest web drama ko, I sang the soundtrack of the drama. So I can do singing and acting at the same time. (Of course, I love doing both. In my latest web drama, I sang in the soundtrack. So I can do singing and acting at the same time.)

What else do you want to do?

Marami pa. Gusto ko rin maging DJ ng radyo and gusto ko rin ng hosting. I love playing instruments. Lately, I’ve been very much into drums, so they call me Darammer. Hindi drummer, Darammer. (A lot more. I also want to be a radio DJ and I also like hosting. I love playing instruments. Lately, I’ve been very much into drums, so they call me Darammer. Not drummer, but Darammer)

Would you be willing to do a movie in the Philippines again?

Of course, I would love to… Pumunta nga ako sa Star Cinema, nag-usap kami ni Tita Malou (Santos)… like this and like that… Kaya lang nahirapan kami sa schedule so… But I’m hoping someday makabalik ako and do a movie with many cute actors in the Philippines. (Of course, I would love to;.. I went to Star Cinema and I talked with Tita Malou… like this and like that… However, we had difficulty with the schedule… But I’m hoping someday makabalik ako and do a movie with many cute actors in the Philippines.)

If you were going to do a movie here, who would you want to work with?

Si Papa John Lloyd… Iba yung eyes niya pag-umarte siya. (Papa John Lloyd… His eyes are really different when he acts)

Everyone says you haven’t changed. How do you stay grounded despite the fame?

I don’t know, it’s just natural. I’m just the same Sandara and I don’t want to grow old and I don’t want to forget the memories… I don’t know, I don’t try to do anything, same lang, it’s normal.

Is fashion something you really enjoy? Describe your personal style.

Yes. Yan ang pinakagusto ko. I love something unique na hindi sinusuot ng iba. Gusto ko yung simple basic items na may cute details, parang ganito (looks at her cat shirt). (Yes. It’s something I like the most. I love something unique that others won’t even wear. But I also like simple, basic items with cute details. Like this (looks at her cat shirt))

What’s your current fashion obsession?

Skinny jeans na roll-up jeans and wearing sneakers or flats that are unique.

Is there anything you wouldn’t wear?

Sexy outfits like bikini. Hindi bagay sa akin… Hindi ako comfortable. (Sexy outfits, like bikinis. I’m not suited with it… I’m not comfortable)

Sa beach anong suot mo? (So what do you wear at the beach?)

Rash guards. Yun naman ang uso ngayon. Para wala ring sunburn. (Rash guards. It’s fashionable and trendy nowadays too. Also so there won’t be any sunburn)

What are five things you can’t live without?

Hmm. My family, friends, people around me, my lovely cats and siguro cellphone, kasi I can watch TV and do Internet with my cellphone. And food. And aircon! Kasi mainit. (Laughs) (Hmmm. My family, friends, people around me, my lovely cats, and maybe my cellphone, because I can watch TV and do internet with it. And food. And aircon! Because it’s so hot)

What’s the craziest thing a fan has done to get your attention?

Actually, marami. Pero naalala ko, 10 years ago, nung bago pa ako dito, meron akong group of fans who followed me wherever I went. Parang nakikita ko yang van na yan…as in whole day, they were following me. And sa Tagaytay ako nagshu-shoot. Andyan din sila. Parang wow. It’s really unforgettable. (Actually, a lot. But I remember, ten years ago, when I was still new in the industry, I had a group of fans who followed me wherever I went. It was like, ‘I think I saw that van somewhere’… Like the whole day, they were following me. And I was shooting in Tagaytay. And they were there. It was like, wow. It’s really unforgettable.)

Did you get to meet them?

Yes. I know them. Close sila sa akin.

Friends mo na sila?

Yeah.

Do you have a message for your Filipino fans?

Yes. Maraming salamat sa inyo. Hanggang ngayon hindi niyo pa rin ako nakakalimutan kaya nandito ako ngayon with Penshoppe. Thank you. Salamat. And gusto ko bumalik ulit. Mahal ko kayo. Yun pa rin. Hindi ako nagbabago. (Yes. Thanks a lot to all of you. Until now, you still haven’t forgotten all about me, that’s why I’m here now with Penshoppe. Thank you. Thank you. And I want to come back again. I love you all. It’s the same. That will never change)

What else can fans expect from you?

The upcoming movie. And I don’t know yet pero (but) I really want to work hard.

The only web series festival in Asia, K-Web Fest, closed its doors Friday two days after its first-ever launch in South Korea, Yonhap reported.

The festival celebrated web dramas — an increasing market for smartphone users, who can watch short five- to ten-minute videos on the go — as well as other web content.

Kang Seung-yoon, K-pop boy band WINNER vocalist and actor, was awarded the Best Actor prize for web drama “We Broke Up,” and 2ne1′s Sandara Park the Actress counterpart for “Dr. Ian,” inside Seoul’s The-K Hotel.

“South Korean web series production is still in its beginning stages, but its influence will increase thanks to our outstanding IT and mobile infrastructure,” said Eun Sung-hee, head of JS Top Entertainment, festival host. “Through the introduction of Korean web series through this festival, we’re working hard to bring K-web series into the same Hallyu spotlight as K-pop and K-dramas.”

K-Web Fest introduced 110 projects, including 80 from overseas and 20 local, and was attended by Los Angeles Web Fest Executive Director Michael Ajakwe.

The event was sponsored by the South Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Korea Creative Content Agency, Seocho District and GB Boston Investment Company.

News: Philippine Star – “It’s Epik High Time” ~ Tablo Mentions Sandara Park, “We Really Worked Well Together and are Good Friends”

It’s Epik High Time

MANILA, Philippines – Filipino K-Pop fans experienced a different high during Epik High’s Concert Parade in Manila. For one, it was not your typical K-Pop concert. The alternative hip-hop group from YG Entertainment gave a chill yet highly entertaining show featuring their unique “sad, fun” kind of music.

Before the show, Epik High composed of Tablo, DJ Tukutz and Mithra Jin sat for an interview with The STAR and talked about their music, the K-Pop scene and some of their plans and on-going activities.

Epik High’s lead rapper, songwriter and producer, Tablo, shared that hip-hop is currently the dominant and most popular genre in Korea right now and is often combined with other genres such as pop and R&B. However, what set them apart from other K-Pop groups are their “sad, fun” songs.

When asked to define their music, Tablo answered, “The melodies that we used and also the lyrical content might be considered a little sad, sometimes pessimistic but we deliver it in a way that it’s fun and energetic. We could be on stage singing a song about break-up, about a very heartbreaking moment but the crowd will be having fun to it. The fact that people like that about Epik High’s music is because life is sort of like that. You know, life is a series of sad moments but you get through it by smiling and hanging out with your friends and trying to make the most of it.

During the concert, Epik High delivered a highly-engaging set and combined signature hits such as Fly, Up, It’s Cold, Umbrella, Love Love Love and Don’t Hate Me with recent chart-toppers Happen Ending, Born Hater and Eyes, Nose, Lips from their new album Shoebox.

The way they interacted with the audience and enjoyed the stage also further turned up the party mode. “We are very silly. We’d like having crazy fun on stage and we are good at giving energy to the crowd. Hopefully, that will be something that the audience would see,” Tablo said.

Aside from doing album promotions and going on concert tours, Epik High is also involved in a new indie label, High Ground. Tablo explained, “It’s not actually for underground rappers, musicians alone. High Ground is neither underground nor mainstream but the label will be a mirror image of the artists. I think it’s going to be a little different, new YG.”

Epik High is also looking forward to do more collaboration projects with other artists like fellow YG Family artist Sandara Park of 2NE1. “She was on stage with us for the YG Family Tour where she sang Love, Love, Love and it was really good. We really worked well together and we are good friends so maybe sometime in the near future we can have a song with her,” Tablo shared.

Sandara actually wanted to come with us on tour but she has prior engagements. Next time, she said, she would like come with us and give us a tour (of the Philippines),” he added.

Since it was their first time to witness how Filipinos sing along and party, Epik High was amazed and thankful for the show’s turnout. “The fact that they like our music is surprising and very flattering. We are very happy and grateful; it’s a miracle to us. We love you! Thank you for having us and listening to our music. We hope to visit as often as possible and to make you smile.”

After Asia, Epik High will embark on a North American Tour in San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, Dallas, Vancouver and Toronto starting this May.
