Feature: 2NE1’s “Crush” Included in MTV Buzzworthy’s “5 Must-Hear Pop Songs Of The Week”

MTV Buzzworthy: Tove Lo, 2NE1, Christina Perri + More: 5 Must-Hear Pop Songs Of The Week

It’s Tuesday! Time for another round of “5 Must-Hear Pop Songs of the Week!”
This week’s roundup features some amazing Swede-pop, K-Pop kweens dominating the South Korean scene, and a Top 40 pop smash that never was, courtesy of a newly emancipated singer-songwriter with plenty still to offer.

2.) 2NE1, “Crush”

After their fellow K-Pop krew Girls’ Generation debuted their brand new EP, Mr.Mr., last week (NO FIGHTING, FANBASES), the fashion-forward, futuristic South Korean sensations known as 2NE1 have returned to do the same with Crush, their second studio album.

In usual form, the album’s a genre-twisting blur of electro-pop and R&B gems, kicking off with the wickedly fierce “Crush.” The searing electronic brag attack is a major comeback statement: “They love me ’cause I’m hot, they love me ’cause I’m cold/They love me ’cause I’m real, they love me ’cause I kill!” the “Come Back Home” singers confidently speak-sing above the nasty synth pulse and a big fat bass. Um, you want a piece of ‘em?

Article: 2NE1’s ‘Missing You’ Video Is A Stunning Tribute To Solitary Yearning, Bejeweled Kanye Masks

2NE1’s ‘Missing You’ Video Is A Stunning Tribute To Solitary Yearning, Bejeweled Kanye Masks

As firmly rooted New Yorkers — WOO NEW YORK CIT-AY! *gets shoved to the ground by a creep in an Elmo costume* — we appreciate it when pop music reflects the change in seasons. That’s just one of the many reasons why we’re really feeling 2NE1‘s “Missing You” video. A far cry from their super summer-friendly “Falling In Love,” this new clip ushers in winter with the stoically chilling pomp it deserves.

Watch 2NE1‘s “Missing You” video after the jump.

Taking a page out of the Katy Perry “Unconditionally” playbook, the K-Pop girl group’s vid eschews a narrative in favor of stunning tableaus and sweeping visuals: Minzy sits motionless in an #AllBlackEverything interior, Dara decisively flicks the knight piece off a chessboard, Bom stares off wistfully in a Louis XVI-worthy salon caught in an indoor snowfall, CL feels all kinds of Natalie Imbruglia-esque feelings on a majestic marble floor, etc.

In fact, CL may have the most powerful visual of all, as we later see the “Do You Love Me?” singer huddling naked in a steamy bathtub, serving her best Rihanna in “Stay” she can muster.

Speaking of allusions to other artists, did anyone else get major Kanye West vibes from the silent male dancer? That bejeweled face mask is, like, total Yeezus Tour territory. Maybe the “Bound 2” rapper borrowed it from the ladies of 2NE1 and “forgot” to give it back, and the longing for that facial accessory is what REALLY inspired “Missing You”? We’ll keep you updated on the situation as more evidence unfolds.

News: 2NE1’s Falling In Love, MTV Song Of The Summer

2NE1’s Falling In Love, MTV Song Of The Summer

[OSEN= Lim Young Jin] MTV IGGY in the United States chose 2NE1’s ‘Falling In Love’ as this year’s Song of the Summer.

On 22nd, online, MTV announced that they have chosen ‘Falling In Love’ as Song of the Summer.

Falling In Love’ could win the honor despite the competition with other competitive songs which were Bunji Garlin’s ‘Differentology’, Tifa’s ‘Champion Bubbler,’ and so on.

It is the second time 2NE1 receives an award from MTV IGGY. The first award received was ‘Best New Band in The World’ in 2011.

Comments on ‘Falling In Love’ compliment the song on the great combination of reggae and hip hop which goes well with summer beach parties. Indeed, 2NE1 boasts their luxury and sexy charm with the golden background in the music video which stimulates associations with beach and Egypt.

Earlier, after 2NE1 released ‘Falling In Love,’ the media in the United States including MTV and Billboard made favorable comments on the song in that the song has high musical value since K-pop mixed with reggae is quite new.

Article: MTV Buzzworthy – Robust Moment with 2NE1’s Comeback Jam “Falling In Love”

New Video: 2NE1, ‘Falling In Love’

2NE1 is back with a reggae-tinged, summery video: “Falling In Love.”

We won’t lie: We are having a very robust moment with K-pop sensation 2NE1′s new comeback jam, “Falling In Love.” We say “comeback” because we haven’t actually heard from CL, Minzy, Dara, and Bom in a little under a (very torturous) year, but the ladies have thankfullly returned with a brand-new K-pop-tinged reggae jam, “Falling In Love.” And no, you didn’t mishear us — we said, “K-pop-tinged reggae.” (Hey, so what if they pulled the same move in their “I Don’t Care” remix? We want ALL the K-pop-tinged reggae all the time.)

At the top of the clip, the “I Love You” singers are just hangin’ out and laughing together on a (very fake-looking) beach set. As the reggae beat floods in, the girls break into some choreography that is juuust accessible enough for us try at home when nobody is watching, but just hard enough for us to completely fail at.

Suddenly, we’re transported to a gilded, water-covered room (like, literally no floor, just a thin level of sparking water. It’s the kind of thing that’d cause mortals like us to have a level three panic attack, but 2NE1 can walk on water, obviously, so they’re fine), where each of the gals take turns lounging on regal-looking chaises and throne chairs. We should also probably mention that there’s also a gaggle of cute dudes around, who are all ready and willing to wait on and flirt with each lady accordingly.

And there you have it! But before we wrap it up, here’s some more 2NE1 comeback news: Word on the street is that 2NE1 will be releasing a new single every month from July to October (kind of like K-pop Hanukkah!?) when the girls’ upcoming album drops. Translation? These next four months may in fact be the best of your life. Until you get married. Or win the lottery. (It all depends on how you define “best.”)

Best Band Style Of 2012

And just like that, we’re officially one week into December and THAT much closer to the end of the year. While we countdown to new beginnings and fresh starts in 2013, we’re recapping our favorite style moments from 2012. We’re hitting all the important areas we can before our speakers start playing Auld Lang Syne. From celebrity nail art to magazine covers, Instagram selfies to facial hair and everything in between!

It’s one thing for individuals to have exemplary style. (*ACHEM* If you haven’t voted in ourReaders’ Choice: Best Dressed of 2012 poll yet, you should probably do that!) But it’s another thing entirely for a band (of multiple people!) to pull off individual outfits but still look cohesive. With the epic resurgence of boy bands (thanks, One Direction and The Wanted!) and plenty of OG comeback stories, the well-dressed ensemble group was not that rare a thing this year. Thus, we bring you the best band style of 2012.

K Pop had a GIGANTIC year in 2012, partly because of “Gangnam Style” and partly because the genre is CHOCK FULL of boy bands and girl groups. MTV Style has a soft spot for 2NE1 thanks to their propensity for all things bold and colorful and their enviable closeness with Jeremy Scott.

2NE1 Bringing K-Pop ‘Girl Power’ Stateside With Debut

Korean girl group talk to MTV News about paving their way to Stateside success.

As demonstrated by the undeniable success of overnight sensation Psy and his “Gangnam Style,” Korean pop music, otherwise known as K-pop, is certainly making its mark on American culture. And Psy isn’t the only one making a name for himself, as K-pop girl group 2NE1 (pronounced “twenty-one”) may be the next on the horizon for crossover success.

In just three short years, the group — CL, Dara, Minzy and Park Bom — has sold 27 million digital downloads, was voted MTV Iggy’s Best New Band in the World in 2011 and had their first American performance at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

MTV News recently caught up with 2NE1, and after sharing some surprising secrets about themselves, they revealed that they have been hard at work on their English-language debut album with none other than

We did a lot of studio sessions and we’ve been working on some songs, but we are waiting for the perfect song, the magical song,” CL said. “It was really fun and [] invited us to his house studio and we just had fun making music and talking, just like we do back in Korea.

2NE1, who are currently on their first ever New Evolution global tour, admit that they don’t have a timeline of when their debut album will be released, but CL said they hope to release “at least a single” by the end of the year. “I really want an English version of our song or whatever it is to have people connect to it,” she added.

The group, which credits the Spice Girls and TLC as their girl group influences, have become sensations in Korea for their eclectic style, impressive rap skills and catchy songs.

Yet, they aren’t the only K-pop girl group gaining attention, Girls Generation and the Wonder Girls have also exploded onto the scene, but according to 2NE1, there is no competition between the different groups since they all bring something different to the K-pop scene.

Korea right now is so passionate about music and about performing. I think people feel that, people really feel the energy and passion, and I think that’s what’s different,” CL said. “I love the fact that its girl power right now. It’s all girl groups that are rocking K-pop right now so I’m happy about that and I respect that we all have different characters of the groups.

2NE1 Take Headwear To New Heights On ‘FAULT’

It’s kind of impossible not to fall in love with 2NE1. Like, the moment we realized they alsoshare a serious obsession with Jeremy Scott and decked-out winged sneakers, we were ALL aboard this K-Pop train. Typically, the 4-piece girl group (which includes Dara, CL, Minzy and Bom) can be seen sporting larger-than-life technicolor onstage ensembles orkiller customized streetwear, but when we peeped them on the recently-released Dreams & Nightmares issue of FAULT Magazine, they totally transitioned over to the dark side. *cue spooky ghost sounds* All four ladies were clad in fancy, all-black ensembles paired with animal-inspired headgear that looked straight from the Viking era. And we’re not talking cutesy little horns here—we’re talking insane headpieces with spikes on them. Yeah. Spikes, people. On horns. The cover shoot, photographed by Giuliano Bekor and styled byAvo Yermagyan, shows a darker, goth-glam side of the girl group, which was used as a double cover with Kelly Osbourne’s goth glam shoot from a few weeks ago. OMG, our cold, black hearts can barely handle all this goth-y goodness.

Dara looked kooky-cute in her black and white striped tights, pleated skater dress, insane stacked heels, intricate antlers, and high-fashion hunch pose.
