The K-pop girl group shakes up a CGI-created world and downtown Los Angeles with new visuals

K-pop’s baddest females are truly back and bolder than ever. After spending 2013 experimenting with different images and sounds — from the sunny, reggae pop of “Falling in Love” to the sparse, piano ballad “Missing You” — 2NE1‘s new album “Crush” feels like a return to its roots. The 10-track LP comes with hard-hitting, electro-pop/hip-hop tracks that recall some of the group’s past singles while refreshing the formula by incorporating new sounds.

It’s all led off by first single “Come Back Home” — one of two the quartet will actively promote — a reggae-trap hybrid that mashes the two seemingly disparate genres into a booming final product. Opening with a bouncy beat similar to Rihanna’s “Man Down,” the girls croon about losing a lover, asking him to “come back home” until the production flips into a heavy trap beat. At that point, the girls get seductive and demand their love to “come, baby baby, come, baby baby.”

While the gals played with reggae last summer, their latest feels like a more honest attempt to dive into the genre as opposed to just incorporating it for a nice summer sound. “Come Back Home” — along with album standout “MTBD,” a solo by 2NE1 leader CL — feel the type of tracks Rihanna or Nicki Minaj would make if a little more open minded to genre fusion.

In in its computer graphic-heavy visual, 2NE1 live in a futuristic world where one can escape reality for a “virtual paradise” with a special machine. While the girls can live out their ideal fantasies — unsuprisingly, main vocalist Bom is a diva singer entertaining a dinner crowd — when Dara‘s love interest would rather be in the fantasy land than with her, the girls transform into warrior rebels to lead an army to seemingly destroy the paradise.

While the sci-fi clip ends without an ultimate resolution, one wonders if the video for hip-hop/dance track “Gotta Be You” — the other promoted single off “Crush” — will be a part two.

The video for album track “Happy” dropped alongside “CBH,” revealing a much lighter side of the girls — despite the melancholy lyrics like the brilliant “I’m not happy, but I hope you’re happy” chorus.

Watch the cartoon-inspired visual as the girls saunter around Los Angeles in their signature crazy-patterned getups and hairstyles that require a double take — from Minzy‘s violet bowl cut to Dara‘s ’90s-inspired baby curls.

As Billboard previously reported, “Crush” could make an impressive splash on several Billboard charts this week. Early industry forecasts suggested the LP could sell 4,000 copies which could lead to 2NE1‘s first entry on the Billboard 200. The charts refresh every Thursday.

Fans can also look forward to videos for “Gotta Be You” and the “unplugged version” of “Come Back Home.

Interview: Yang Hyun Suk Explains Why Virtual World Gets Destroyed in 2NE1’s “Come Back Home” MV

YANG HYUN SUK EXPLAINS WHY VIRTUAL WORLD GETS DESTROYED IN 2NE1’S “COME BACK HOME” MV (INTERVIEW)

양현석-2NE1-컴백홈-뮤비서-가상세계-파괴-이유는인터뷰

[스타뉴스 길혜성 기자] With the release of 2NE1’s 2nd full album’s music videos, the founder of YG Entertainment YANG HYUN SUK, who is also the editor of the videos, personally explained the concepts of the clips.

Through YG’s official blog YG LIFE, 2NE1’s music videos of the title song “COME BACK HOME” and another track “HAPPY” were unveiled at 2:01 pm on March 3.

Out of the two, “COME BACK HOME” that was produced on a 500 million won budget stands out by emitting a sci-fi-like ambiance. Members of 2NE1 crosses from reality to the virtual world in a future city produced from computer graphic work. The MV is slightly dark, and in the latter part the divas transform into powerful warriors. A notable scene is by DARA, who weeps in pain of love.

Immediately after the release, YANG told Star News, “The content could be a little difficult to understand, but keeping in mind that happiness in the real world is the most important will help the viewers understand the intentions of the MV better.

He added, “The MV of “COME BACK HOME” is set in a near-future city, and the concept is that people in this era prefer the virtual world over the real one, just like the movie ‘Matrix’.

These days when people meet they look into the screens of their phones instead of having a conversation, which shows an addiction to cell phones and games. I think this behavior demonstrates that people like the virtual world. Even at playgrounds kids play with cell phones, and this will worsen in the future and people will be more enthusiastic about the virtual world than the real one.

He continued, “In the MV of ‘COME BACK HOME,’ DARA is heartbroken by a man she is in love with, as he prefers the virtual world. For these reasons, the four members of 2NE1, DARA, CL, BOM and MINZY enter the virtual world themselves and turn into warriors to destroy that world. Through this, we tried to convey the message of how important the real world is, and about the human touch.

He also explained why he leaned toward a music drama rather than a MV filled with choreographic scenes.

He said, “2NE1’s MVs were mainly choreographic ones until now, so we wanted to try something new. We wanted to invest our time and money in the computer graphic work, which ended up in a 500 million won budget.

I hope the viewers see the latest MV as a new challenge taken on by 2NE1.

On the other hand, the MV of “HAPPY” filmed in Los Angeles is completely different from that of “COME BACK HOME,” every scene filled with lovely and cute four members dressed in fancy outfits.

As soon as the 2nd full album was released on Feb 27, the double title songs “COME BACK HOME” and “GOTTA BE YOU” swept across major South Korean music charts while climbing up the ranks in many iTunes across the globe. On March 7 their offline version of the album will be released, while their first comeback performance will be aired on SBS’s Inkigayo on March 9.

SEOUL, Feb. 27 (Yonhap) — K-pop group 2NE1 released its long-anticipated second full-length album Thursday, nabbing the top spot on numerous music charts in a matter of hours.

Soon after its release on online music services at midnight, “Comeback Home,” the main track on the album “Crush,” topped real-time charts of 10 services, including Melon, Mnet, Olleh Music, Naver Music, Daum Music and Bugs.

Another major piece, “Gotta Be You,” came next on those charts while most of the remaining tracks also placed high.

“Crush” has 10 songs, all of which are new except for one that is the Korean language version of a song previously released in Japan. Among them, three were written and composed by the band leader CL.

The four-member band is set to present the new songs for the first time at concerts in Seoul on March 1-2. The first concert will be broadcast live through the domestic portal service Naver, according to the group’s management agency, YG Entertainment.

2NE1 is expected to compete fiercely with Girls’ Generation over music charts and TV music ranking programs for the time being as the two popular groups with many fans at home and abroad released new albums in the same week.

Girls’ Generation managed by S.M. Entertainment had been at No. 1 on those music charts since the release of its fourth mini-album “Mr. Mr.” on Monday.

2NE1 Tops Major Music Charts with New Album ‘Crush’

Popular K-pop girl group 2NE1 has returned to the music scene ― and with a powerful force.

The four-member hip-hop-infused girl group released their sophomore studio album “Crush” on Thursday, immediately sweeping all local real-time music charts.

The title track “Come Back Home” topped the music charts of major online music services such as Melon, Bugs Music, Naver Music, Daum Music, Cyworld Music, Soribada and Monkey3.

“Gotta Be You,” another title track, trailed behind closely at second place. Other songs from the album filled the rest of the top 10 list with singles such as “Crush” ― produced and written by the group’s leader CL ― “Baby I Miss You” and “Hope to Live” soaring on the charts.

“That a single group is dominating all of the major music charts ― and with several songs ― is a rare achievement in the music world, reaffirming 2NE1’s strength and potential,” said YG Entertainment in a press release on Thursday.

The title of 2NE1’s new album “Crush” embodies a dual meaning ― to destroy and to also fall madly for someone. The 10-track album features the group’s distinctive color and style that has pushed them to the forefront of the K-pop scene over the years.

The top-ranking title track “Come Back Home” is the result of a collaborative effort by YG’s main producer Teddy and other junior producers in the company. The song is a mash-up of different genres including R&B, reggae and hip-hop and features an addictive retro melody with a modern sound source.

2NE1 is scheduled to stage the first live performance of their new songs at the Olympic Handball Stadium in eastern Seoul on March 1-2.

2NE1′s ‘Crush’ achieves ‘all-kill’ status

2NE1 swept the Korean music charts following the release of their new album “Crush” last night.

The single “Come Back Home” landed at No. 1 on several Korean real-time charts to achieve “all-kill” status.

According to chart tracker Instiz, the song is No. 1 on Melon, Bugs, Olleh, Soribada, Naver, Daum, Cyworld, Monkey3 and Genie.

Eight other songs from the album are also on the top 10 of Naver’s real-time chart.

2NE1 also occupied the top nine slots on Olleh’s real-time chart.

The girl group will be starting their “All or Nothing” world tour on March 1 and 2 in Seoul.

At a press conference last week in Seoul, American concert director Travis Payne praised 2NE1 members.

“BOM is like a lovely fairy, while CL is a lovely hard-worker. MINZY is an amazing dancer who knows how to enjoy music,” said Payne, adding that Sandara Park is a “funky angel.”

He added, “The four combined makes them powerful musicians. I worked with many female groups in the past, but compared to others, all members of 2NE1 have the advantages to become artists.”

Payne previously worked with the late Michael Jackson and Big Bang’s G-Dragon.

“Crush” contains 10 tracks including, “Come Back Home,” “Gotta Be You,” “Crush,” “If I Were You,” “Good to You,” “Happy,” “Scream,” “Baby I Miss You,” and an acoustic version of “Come Back Home.” It will be released in music stores in Korea on March 7.

Article: Yahoo PH – “2NE1 Takes Over Music Charts with 2nd Full-length Album ‘Crush’”

2NE1 takes over music charts with 2nd full-length album ‘Crush’

Bhak-UXCQAAmAQX

2NE1 has made a successful comeback after a long hiatus, as it took over music charts following the release of its 2nd full-length album ‘Crush’ at midnight of February 27th.

As of 8AM (KST) on February 27th, 2NE1’s double title songs ‘Come Back Home’ and ‘Gotta Be You’ ranked highly on music charts like Melon, Mnet, Bugs, and Genie, and also overtook Girls’ Generation’s ‘MR.MR.’ which had been released earlier at 5PM (KST) on February 24th.

‘Come Back Home’ was a joint production by Teddy, PK, and Dee.P and is a multiple genre song that incorporates R&B, reggae, and Hip-hop styles. There was also an unplugged version of ‘Come Back Home’ included in the album. ‘Gotta Be You’ was produced by Teddy, PK, and MASTA WU, and is described as a song with a popular appeal, and the main part in which Minzy and Park Bom cries ‘GOTTA BE YOU’ leaves a very strong impression.

The album also contained songs like ‘CRUSH’, ‘If I Were You’, ‘Baby I Miss You’, ‘SCREAM’, and ‘MTBD’ which leader CL wrote lyrics for. Among the songs included on the album, CL wrote lyrics for 5 songs while also composing for 3, and was proof of her talent in song composition.

2NE1 will begin their 2nd world concert tour ‘AON: All or Nothing’, starting with Korea on March 1st and 2nd, where they will perform their new 2nd album songs for the first time at Seoul’s Olympic Park SK Handball Stadium.
