US Billboard, 2NE1 chosen as ‘Music Video Top 5’ greeting their 5th debut anniversary

[OSEN=Park Hyun Min] US Billboard has chosen 2NE1 as ‘Music Video Top 5’ greeting their 5th debut anniversary.

2NE1 got attention since the Billboard reported this news in the midst of 2NE1’s 5th debut anniversary on May 17th.

The Billboard introduced 2NE1 as, “The 4-membered girl group, 2NE1 has debuted with unrestricted music by mixing hip-hop, dance, fast rap etc. They have recorded the highest among K-Pop album in US Billboard chart (Billboard 200) with their high-quality music and music video.”

The first ranked music video in the TOP 5 is their debut song ‘FIRE’ released in May, 2009. They gave a favorable comment, “FIRE attracts listeners with their rhyme played by synthesizer and percussion instruments, and with their sexy and strange clothes. CL’s ‘Cat suit’ and Bom’s ‘Bunny-look’ is interesting. FIRE shows powerful style, glamorous, and cute feminine charm”.

‘DO YOU LOVE ME’ ranked TOP 4 which was released in last August. The Billboard introduced, “This music video is not flashy with shocking fashion and sets, but rather having familiar background with swimming pool, cars, club etc. It is really fun having each member’s individuality exposed in it”.

‘CAN’T NOBODY’ ranked TOP 3 which was released in September, 2010. The Billboard assessed, “Its music video which hit YouTube in 2010, made fans notice their ‘swagger’ has one step upgraded. Their appearance was more surprising and each character was shown clearly”.

‘MISSING YOU’ ranked TOP 2 which was released in last November. The Billboard expressed, “2NE1 showed their smooth charm through their winter ballad. If the electro ballad, ‘I LOVE YOU’ was impressive at appearance part, then this song is more focused on ‘sensitivity’. It shows amazing metaphor of sensitivity when CL covers her arms and legs by herself in front of the camera”.

‘I AM THE BEST’ ranked TOP 1 which was released in June, 2011. The Billboard highly complimented, “There is no other appearance, style and sound than ‘I AM THE BEST’ which defines 2NE1. It has the most views in K-POP, having 90,000,000 views. If ‘FIRE’ is a song which promises fans with appearance, then ‘I AM THE BEST’ is the first and best realization of that promise”.

Meanwhile, 2NE1, who has opened their second world tour in Philippines at May 17th, is going to meet local fans by holding another concert in Kuala Lumpur on May 24th.

2NE1 Embraces Pop Art in ‘Gotta Be You’ Video

The record-breaking K-pop quartet sing and rap amid references to Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein

Following a pair of fierce videos initially revealed when 2NE1 dropped their record-breaking “Crush” album, the K-pop phenoms have followed up with a visual for new single “Gotta Be You,” showcasing the girls singing and rapping through a pop-art world.

As usual 2NE1 deliver on the visual front, overloading viewers with ferocious fashion (see CL and Bom’s zombie-inspired dresses), hair, makeup and accessories that scale the color spectrum. While the vid is filled with glamour shots, there is a key point where CL gets drenched inside a car wash that is less a wet T-shirt contest turning on the camera and more about embracing the longing lyrics of the track.

The girls mix the song’s sentimental subject of being in love with someone despite them giving up on the relationship inside a bright, pop-art world. There are references to Roy Lichtenstein comic books, Andy Warhol’s “Brillo Boxes”, along with splashes of graffiti, emoticons and neon throughout the video sets. Despite every punch of color, the girls never crack a smile making for a fascinating, juxtaposed visual.

Sonically, “Gotta Be You” lets 2NE1 flex their mix-mastering skills to blend a new genre of synthy dance-pop into their rap/EDM formula. Like a majority of the tracks of the new LP, the snappy song highlights each girl’s unique timbre and, most notably, lets youngest member Minzy vocally rip on the chorus alongside main vocalist Bom.

“Gotta Be You” originally peaked at No. 4 on the K-Pop Hot 100 and No. 16 on Billboard’s World Digital Songs chart. The video should give the “Crush” LP additional longevity and breathe a bit of new life for it on the charts.

Previous to the official video, fans had only seen the song brought to life on the live stage via their Asian tour dates and TV performances. Watch one below:

What is your dream concert: If we have the fans that we love, and the fans that love us, that’s our favorite. What really matters is the connection and the vibe, the connection with the fans.

Message to the Filipino fans: I don’t know why it took us so long. But we’re really happy to be here. We’re looking forward to the show, and to explore with our tour guide, Dara.

What is your all or nothing: Music and Love. In that order.

On their ideal guys: CL was trying to foist off the question to “Sandy” and Dara cried out, “Noooo, this is for everyone!” Then Dara said that her ideal guy is, “Anyone who loves me.” Then CL blurted, “There’s so many people out there who loves you. That can’t be it,” and Dara said, “That’s it. That’s all I’m looking for.” Then Bom said, “Everybody loves you.” Kekeke, cute 2NE1! Bom’s ideal type is, “Someone who works hard at his job, and also only loves me.” Minzy said, “My ideal type is… Usher.” Go Minzy! XD CL’s ideal type is, “Someone who is my friend.”

Do you fight about anything: FOOD. We fight over the food menu. Dara wants heavy food, me (CL) and Minzy like something light, while Bom likes something sweet. It’s good that we don’t fight over guys, because we all have different tastes. Thank God (Kekekekekekeke, cute cute cute CL!)

What do you all like in common: Ice cream.

How do you maintain your figure: We work out a lot. Our trainer comes with us on tour, so we can’t skip out on working out.
