2NE1 Returns with First Two MVs for Second Album, CRUSH

gallery_2ne1_2nd_album_01

After several delays caused by scheduling conflicts and technical glitches, the girls of Korea’s fiercest girl group 2NE1 are back with their new album CRUSH! To celebrate their first full-length release in four years, the girls released MVs for tracks “Come Back Home” and “Happy.”

YG’s famed producer Teddy produced “Come Back Home,” one of CRUSH‘s two lead singles. A song about waiting for a loved one to return, the track has a very modern hip-hop/R&B melody with elements of reggae. “Come Back Home” instantly topped major music charts upon its release and now that its futuristic MV is out, its domination has only gotten stronger. Watch the 2NE1 ladies rebel against false reality below, and don’t miss the snippet of the “Come Back Home (Unplugged Version)!”

In contrast to “Come Back Home,” “Happy” reacquaints fans with 2NE1’s upbeat, cheerful personas and their signature street flair. Produced by both Teddy and group leader CL, “Happy” brings listeners a colorful, buoyant melody and lyrics about wishing an ex a happy life. Check out the MV below:

Labeled a “top-quality album” by YG’s CEO Yang Hyun SukCRUSH includes: “Crush,” lead singles “Come Back Home” and “Gotta Be You,” “If I Were You,” “Good Girl,” CL solo “Mental Breakdown,” “Happy,” the Korean version of Japanese single “Scream,” “Baby I Miss You,” and “Come Back Home (Unplugged Version).” Along with frequent YG collaborators Teddy, Choice 37, DEE.P, and more, CL participated more than ever in the composition of Crush, writing music and lyrics for three of album’s 10 tracks.

Still on the way are MVs for “Come Back Home (Unplugged Ver.)” and “Gotta Be You,” so keep an eye out!

2NE1: 2009 vs. 2014

2ne1-crush-images-soompi-800x450

Now that it’s been approximately five years since 2NE1’s debut, how much has their music changed? How much of it has stayed the same?

In order to address these questions I will be comparing and contrasting 2NE1’s 1st mini album, which was released in 2009, and their more current studio album ‘Crush’.

2NE1’s first EP was successful in that it established their color. There was a definite ‘swag’ in their music that no other girl group had. Their lyrics weren’t about hopeless love or chasing guys. Instead, they wrote and sung about being strong, independent females. In addition they delivered a stage performance that didn’t seem too mechanical; they knew how to enjoy themselves and transmit that to their audiences.

Another thing that their EP demonstrates is their ability to play around with a mix of genres. Combining hip-hop, R&B, electro pop and dance-pop, this was the first time we saw 2NE1 perform songs that could be classified into the crossover genre. For example, tracks such as ‘Fire’ had distinct Middle Eastern tonalities and ‘I Don’t Care’ hinted at Reggae and R&B.

However, 2NE1’s 1st mini album was exclusively composed and written by YG’s resident producer Teddy and Kush. In terms of the actual behind-the-scenes operations of the album, the 2NE1 members had little to no contributions.

2NE1’s new album ‘Crush’ is almost like a loyal follow-up to this 1st EP. Their color and fierceness remains, if not gets stronger. We can see through the teaser images that Sandara is no longer the ‘cute’ and ‘pretty’ member of the group; she can also display charisma. Minzy, in addition, becomes an adult and states that she can now “understand stage mannerisms better”. Their songs, however, have become more sentimental in comparison to their first EP. Tracks like ‘Come Back Home’, ‘Gotta Be You’ and ‘Baby I Miss You’ show off a sentimentalism that 2NE1 lacked in their first mini-album.

In terms of the genres, 2NE1 remains constant. ‘Crush’, just like their first EP, contains songs that cannot be classified into one genre. For example, ‘Come Back Home’ not only has hints of Reggae and R&B but also Dubstep.

One major different this current album contains is their overall contribution to the album. 2NE1 finally (partially) leaves the crutches that Teddy and Kush provided in their 1st mini-album and take on composition and writing for some of the songs. For this we have CL to congratulate. She is responsible for composing and writing a total of three tracks.

How much do you think their music will change? Can they keep on being successful while keeping their music similar?

2NE1’s ‘Come Back Home’ MV Beyond Imagination – Four Girls From Space

2ne1

[마이데일리 = 전원 기자] YG’s 2NE1 marked their full-scale comeback by unveiling a very unique music video.

At 2:01 pm on March 3, the music videos of the title song “COME BACK HOME” and another track “HAPPY” from their 2nd full album were unveiled at the same time.

The MV of “COME BACK HOME” was especially striking. While maintaining the powerful and charismatic images of 2NE1, the surreal alien-like ambience of a different planet was prominent. The equipment and outfits remind you of the outer space, and 2NE1’s acting sets them apart from their usual image. The newest MV was even more embellished by the members’ unique visual effects and dynamic computer graphic work that could be seen in movies.

DARA made an attempt at acting out somewhat forlorn physical affection with a foreign man, lying on the sofa closely attached to him. She adds to the sorrowful ambience in a scene where tears roll down her face.

2NE1 is set to deliver a comeback performance of their 2nd full album for the first time on SBS’s Inkigayo on March 9.

YANG HYUN SUK, CHOREOGRAPHER OF SEOTAIJI AND BOYS’ “COME BACK HOME” 19 YEARS AGO, COMPLETED CHOREOGRAPHY FOR 2NE1… WHY?

19년전-서태지-컴백홈-안무짰던-양현석-2NE1-춤도-완성..왜

[스타뉴스 길혜성 기자] As girl group 2NE1 (CL, DARA, BOM, and MINZY) is drawing a big attention by disclosing the music of their new album and new music videos, people are now paying keen attention to what kind of performance they will showcase on the stage.

Notably, the biggest spotlight is shed on the performance of “COME BACK HOME”, one of the double title tracks of 2NE1’s new album and the main title for performance on TV, which has been sweeping the No.1 places in major music charts in and out the country upon being unveiled.

The performance of “COME BACK HOME” was disclosed for the first time to the audience of the first concert of 2NE1’s second world tour, which was held on March 1 and 2 at Olympic Park SK Handball Hall located in Seoul. The choreography for “COME BACK HOME” is generally dynamic but tender at the same time.

At the concert, MINZY electrified the audience by showing the details of the new dance for “COME BACK HOME”, popping the chest and waving the torso to move forward, saying “this is the point dance for ‘COME BACK HOME’, which was created by our boss (Yang Hyun Suk).

Since Yang Hyun Suk choreographed “COME BACK HOME” of Seotaiji and Boys (Seo Taiji, Yang Hyun Suk, and Lee Juno), the most popular idol boy group 19 years back in 1995, such remark of 2NE1 drew all the more attention.

Yang Hyun Suk has recently been so busy working not only as the head of Korea’s biggest music label YG Entertainment, but also as a producer, mixing engineer, and music video editor, evolving from one of the best dancers in the 1990’s. That is why he has left choreography for YG singers to professional choreographers rather than doing it himself. Then, why has he choreographed the point dance of 2NE1’s new song “COME BACK HOME”, a song that has the same title with Seo Taiji and Boys’ song for which he created the choreography, for himself?

According to an insider of the world of choreography on the 4, Yang came to take part in the choreography for 2NE1’s “COME BACK HOME”, as 2NE1 and the choreography team for “COME BACK HOME” asked for his help.

The insider said, “Yang Hyun Suk had given a lot of ideas for the choreography of BIGBANG’s ‘LIE’ and ‘LAST FAREWELL’, but he has been so busy ever since, so he has left choreography to professional choreography teams recently. However, this time, the choreography team and 2NE1 had difficulties with creating the point dance, so finally, they asked for Yang’s help”.

The insider went on to say, “As it has been so long since Yang Hyun Suk danced on the stage, Yang was rather embarrassed when he received the request. However, he moved his body and gave his idea about the point dance in five minutes. Yang’s dance satisfied both 2NE1 and the choreography team”.

“The point dance created by Yang Hyun Suk is applied from the part of lyrics ‘come back home’, the point where the melody part turns into the hip-hop part. Yang also thinks that it is very meaningful for him to take part in the choreography of a song that has the same title with one of his hits 19 years ago, and he enjoyed the work a lot”.

2NE1 is to disclose the point dance of “COME BACK HOME”, which was created by Yang Hyun Suk, for the first time in SBS “INKIGAYO” on the 9 this month, which will be 2NE1’s first performance of a song in their second regular album on TV.

Meanwhile, 2NE1 has shown a strong power on music charts with their double title track “COME BACK HOME” and “GOTTA BE YOU” sweeping No.1 places in Korea’s major music charts and iTunes’ main album chart of many countries, upon the release of all the songs included in their second regular album on February 27.

2NE1 disclosed the music video of “COME BACK HOME” and “HAPPY” in the afternoon on the 3 and they will release the off-line version of their second regular album on the 7.

Translating the Dara parts of GENIE’s concert review for All Or Nothing:

2NE1’s Sandara Park showed an intense look during the concert! One cannot imagine the energy and charisma that could flow out from such a petite body, but it’s really wonderful to see. She also debuted her amazing abs in the concert, which she had kept hidden before, and exuded a sexy appeal.

Sandara Park played the guitar on-stage for the concert, after several months of playing the instrument. She showed her capability at a high level when she played as accompaniment for the first time in public. She was concentrating so hard while accompanying the song that when it ended, a visible expression of relief crossed her face. Her pleased expression said, “The song finally ended and I didn’t make a mistake,” her face was really cute! Even while showing a sexy appeal, Sandara Park still manages to show her innocent charm.
