Q: Comeback song “I Love You” is an electro-pop song. Between personal feelings and giving the public a new type of feel, which type of feelings are more meaningful after trying out this new genre?
CL: I like meaningful things, but both feelings are important for a singer.
Dara: I also felt that no matter what, I’m still a singer performing on stage. So the reaction of the public feels more meaningful to me.
Q: Any reactions you girls have expected?
Dara: Although it’s always the same whenever we have a new song, I still hope that people will think that “it’s the new evolution” and that “2NE1 has such a side too”. Something like that especially when Minzy and CL are extremely sexy this time round. Even though we have shown this side of us before previously, I still hope that people will be surprised.
Bom: Even if they were singing children songs, they’ll be sexy naturally.
Minzy: The problem I face is that, since I’m still underage, I’ve often heard comments about people telling me to control my sexy dance moves.
Dara: The problem I have lies with my hair (laughs). There was a photo of my hair in the MV being uploaded and surprisingly, there were a lot of positive comments about it, saying that I suited the hairstyle. Because it’s a very daring hairstyle, I’m afraid that people might not like it. But they liked it in the end.
Thunder: “My noona, Sandara Park, Called Me Before She Did The Shaved Hairstyle”
MBLAQ known as “chic-dol” member Thunder, was interviewed. Thunder and his older sister, Sandara Park, have been often referred to as “Idol siblings with best genes.”
Throughout the course of the interview, Thunder always had a smile on his face every time we talked about his sister. It came to a point that I thought, “I wish I had a brother like him.” It is impossible to search for Thunder‘s name online without Sandara Park cropping up in the related keywords search. When YG Entertainment casted Sandara Park, her brother, Thunder, as well as the rest of the family, came along with her to Korea. Thunder says that his eldest sister, Sandara Park, is a caring mentor and a thoughtful senior.
“My eldest sister is sometimes very sweet and caring, but sometimes she’s serious and strict. It depends on the moment, haha!” he also says that the new song of 2NE1, the group where Sandara Park belongs to, is on repeat.
Recently, Thunder released a solo song, “Don’t Go.” The fact that he wrote the lyrics of the song himself has garnered a lot of attention. But what was his sister’s reaction to the song? “Noona always wants to listen to any composition or song that I have, she said, ‘I’d really love to see this come out in your album,’ so when my solo single came out, she said that she was really proud,” he said.
During 2NE1‘s comeback, Sandara Park amazed and shocked everyone when she revealed her bansak hairstyle (shaved head hairstyle). Thunder revealed that, “Before she decided on doing the hairstyle, she gave me a phone call and kept asking, ‘Should I do this? Should I do it?’ she asked conitnously,” he said. When asked why she hesitated on doing the bansak hairstyle, he said that it was because she was worried that the cat that she and Thunder were raising, wouldn’t be able to recognize her. Thunder confessed that he really laughed out loud when he heard his sister’s silly reasoning.
“When I write a better song, it may be included in an MBLAQ Album. It’s something that I want to offer to Sandara-noona, as well as to Bi-hyung,” he said shyly. His recently released solo single, “Don’t Go” gathered a lot of attention, as it was revealed that it was composed by Thunder personally. Although it wasn’t included in their last album, fans can still catch Thunder performing his song live, for MBLAQ Asian Tour, “THE BLAQ% TOUR” which he performs for his solo stage.
How cute is 2NE1? ^_^ Dara looks so tiny next to CL! Actually, she looks so tiny next to all three girls. She’s still looking as gorgeous as ever! How cute is she trying to follow while Minzy was dancing?
Their larger-than-life stage presence and natural charm were already enough to make them stars but their uncanny ability to produce something fresh and out of the ordinary with every new release — catching fans and casual listeners off-guard without exception — has placed them in a league of their own.
Just three years after their debut, they have become one of the most popular K-pop groups today, turning heads all around the world, from Korea and Japan to the United States and Brazil. They were at the Cannes Lions, presenting K-pop’s spread at the advertising world’s biggest event. Spin Magazine ranked the group’s sophomore EP “2nd Mini Album” No. 6 on its review of best pop albums, above those by Florence + the Machine, Coldplay, Kelly Clarkson, Rihanna and fellow K-pop act Girls’ Generation.
For the group’s members, C.L., Bom, Dara and Minzy, success has come from hard work and the willingness to venture outside their comfort zone. But the girls’ surprisingly introverted demeanor at the interview, in stark contrast to their free-wheeling energy on stage, made the occasion even more intriguing, trying to discover the formula behind the hitherto foolproof K-pop magic potion.
“For 2NE1, it’s always been all about music,” said rapper and vocalist C.L., 21, who was the most engaging during last week’s interview but saved her words for later. “People really respond to that.”
There used to be a time in the Korean history when having a job in singing and dancing was regarded as a shameful thing. But now that is something very hard to believe for younger generations here. Singers are adored and get praised for their god-given talents, and without a doubt, they are now the leaders of Korean culture and fashion; and that’s where 2NE1 stands.
2NE1, debuted in 2009, is a group of four transgressive young women artists pioneering new music styles and fashion. Going beyond synchronized dance routines and repetitive chorus, they were the first K-pop group to dominate local online music charts with five singles in a row: ““Don’t Cry,” “Lonely,” “I Am The Best,” “Hate You” and “Ugly.”
If you think the group’s international acclaim in a little over three years of their singing career is hard to believe, wait till you hear what is next: “NEW EVOLUTION.” (Note: The original article wrote “REVOLUTION”.)
In between releasing the new single and going for the theatrical run, 2NE1 told the magazine about their world tour, “NEW EVOLUTION,” and their new tune– a cross-genre song of electronic and trot music– at the YG Entertainment office building in Seoul on July 6.
People of your generation didn’t grow up listening to trot music [an old Korean pop music genre based on four beats and sad melody from Japanese ballad “enka’”]. Was it not difficult understanding and digesting the genre?
Minzy: My parents love trot music so it wasn’t new to me at all.
CL: Even if you don’t grow up being exposed to trot music, you know the feeling of it. It wasn’t so difficult imagining what kind of message trot music has inside (its lyrics and melody).
Sandara: My mom loves trot so I used to sing “The man in Shinsadong” (translated title) a lot.
CL: Minzy was good at singing the trot parts of our new song.
Oh! What is this? Keke! Maybe it’s because her hair grows back too fast. ^^ Let’s all wait for the full interview on Monday!
(A/N: This is actually my problem too. As some of you might know, I, Gally the Snail, also had half of my hair shaved, just like Dara’s. And the hair grows back too fast! Keke. I guess I have to shave it multiple times too. ^^)
In the same interview, Dara said that it was CL who recommended her to have half of her head shaved for a change. She admitted that she got a little teary when she was shaving her hair, but she said that she likes it now. ^^ How cute is ChaeRa? <333

VJ:Nice to meet you too~That’s really exiciting!Actually,we played 2NE1’s songs many times in our programme,It’s always my wish to have an interview with 2ne1. Is this the first time to accpet the interview from Taiwanese Media?
Dara:Yes,It’s my first time to do such an interview with Taiwanese Media^ ^Thank for inviting and coming, Feel really great to meet you~
VJ:Do you know there are lots of Blackjacks in Taiwan?
Dara:Actually I don’t know clearly..Cuz I haven’t been there..Really have no idea..Many?
VJ:SO..Hope there’s a chance to visit Taiwan soon.!We watched CFs during internet this time, WOW!Dara is super cute in the CF drama.We can understand the feeling of this CF drama,will you be shy when you see the script? Any embarrassed feeling cuz you will have a corporation with SHINEE?We know that there’re some kiss scene..^ ^
Dara:First,I’m really shy,cuz it’s my first time to meet SHINEE actually.and I didn’t have too much experience of love.So it’s embarrassed thing for me to have a kiss scene.Furthermore,There’re 4 time kissing!Really embarrassed!But anyway it’s a nice experience for me.

VJ:These CF dramas are really popular on the internet,Can you share your feeling with us when you know the popularity of this CF?
Dara:Before anything I’m really happy and glad to know this info. I really wanna buy this product to have a try after watching the CF,it’s a fantastic advertisement^ ^In additional,the CFs are very romantic and dreamlike,very cute and sweet~I think that’s the reason why so many people love them.
VJ:I think it’s very difficult to flim this CF,so, any NG of you guys?
Dara:Nothing,just embarrassed..some feeling like dare not to close to each other..But anyway we finished filming with a serious attitude^＾．
VJ:so any expection about love in the real life?
Dara:Comparing with dating, I want to focus on my work more..
VJ:yes,cuz you’re really outstanding in your work area. We can see the background of upcoming CF just now,it’s an athletic field,it’s related to sports. so Do you like any sport in you daily life?
Dara:Yep I usually have sports as my habit,I’m speedy but too weak in the physical strength and power.It’s a long time since last time I’ve been to such a big athletic field.I’m in a such good mood.
VJ:Any favourite sport?
Dara:I like bicycle riding.
VJ:When we see this CF and any CF before,we really have thoughts that Dara really has natural beauty.So any prefered style and making-up skill in your daily life?
Dara:Just similar to CF’s role,but really different with which side I’m showing to others when I standing on the stage.I usually do a light makeup.like only some BB cream,it should be indistinct,looks like no make-up but actually some light make-up.so put some BB cream,to make yourself looks much cute,put a little bit pink blusher.In addtional,to have a peart looking,pink lipstick is necessary,and lip gloss.Then when boys saw you they will have such reation”wow you’re beautiful even without make up”.
VJ:So in private,dara was very similar to today’s outfit,like pink feeling~
Dara:Yes that’s right.
VJ:We can call her PINK DARA then….Actually during the TV programmes before,BIGBANG had mentioned that there’re many guys love dara.So in personal,what’s your ideal type for real?
Dara:I usually talking about this. I like the guy who’s Cute,Tough and younger than me…Eh~Let’s stop here*^_^*
VJ:It’s too young to have so many imaginations of love and dating. Of course we hope that Dara and 2ne1 will have a chance to come to Taiwan.Cuz there’re really huge amount of fans that are waiting for you!
Dara:Yep!
VJ:There’s a famous food in Taiwan, called Pinapple cake.Really delicious.
