I bet some of you have seen some dramas make a big deal of having seaweed soup for birthdays (a scene from Stairway to Heaven is the first thing that comes to mind). It stems from the fact that seaweed soup is traditionally eaten by women after childbirth. Korean women who give birth traditionally eats seaweed soup for about three weeks straight.
