Fashion Find: Dara Goes ORANGE with Alexander Wang at the Semyung University Festival

BRIGHT, SIMPLE, BEAUTIFUL! These are just some of the words that best describe Dara. Those words also describe what she wore to the Semyung University Festival earlier today. I love that its chic and simple but at the same time bright orange which is a reflection of Dara’s personality and smile.

This chic and simple top by Alexander Wang costs around £285.00!

Thank you so much to @Jigsaw_03 for the tip!

Article: 2NE1′s New Evolution Tour in LA – A Kfashionista Fan Account

Shortly after news broke of 2NE1‘s first solo global tour, NEW EVOLUTION, it was announced that the American fashion designer Jeremy Scott would be designing the costumes for their performances. Scott is close friends with the members of 2NE1, so this collaboration came as no surprise to fans — it did however add another level of interest to the show, as fashion followers eagerly awaited the reveal of his custom creations for the quartet. Kfashionista staff had the opportunity to attend last weekend’s concert at LA’s Nokia Theatre to see these designs in action. Here is our take on the event from a style standpoint.

Dara Fashion Find: Dara Goes Basic Red, Black, And White, Then Bursts Into Color For Fault Magazine

I wonder how many concept photos Fault took of the girls? Kekeke! I think they shot pictures of them in their own clothes before they arrived, then had them change into the black, goth-ish outfits. And then into Jeremy Scott’s colorful collection. ^^

From a fantaken-pic of when the girls arrived at the shoot, we can see a glimpse of red soles for Dara’s shoes, so I’m betting she was wearing Louboutins. ^^

Blog/Photos: Guiliano Bekor Says “We Can’t Stop Loving On 2NE1”

We Can’t Stop Loving On 2NE1

Ok, ok, everyone knows we shot 2NE1 last week in the studio. There were racks of wild Jeremy Scott clothes (psychadelic prints! pants made of stuffed animals!), tables of accessories pulled from the likes of Onch Movement, The Blonds, and Grey Ant by master stylist Avo Yermagyan. The girls even had a small gathering of fans outside the studio as they arrived in decked-out black Escalades equipped with security guards and an entourage of publicists, hair and makeup assistants.

Fashion TV was on set gathering coverage to air during New York Fashion Week…and, well, we your behind-the-scenes babes, were (what else?) Instagramming! If you missed our feed on the day of the shoot, follow us for upcoming behind-the-scenes celeb goodness. Enjoy these snaps – we couldn’t resist!

Article: LA Times – Live Review: K-Pop’s 2NE1 at Nokia Theatre

Live Review: K-Pop’s 2NE1 at Nokia Theatre

Pity the hapless dude who thought he was getting a lap-dance from Dara of the South Korean pop group 2NE1 on Friday.

The singer dragged him up from the audience onto the Nokia Theatre stage during the single “Kiss,” and plonked this twentysomething white guy — who looked as if he might actually crumple from petrified delight — in a chair facing the stage. Dara, with her Skrillex-inspired haircut and pixie-thug getup, leaned come-hither close, surely about to crib a classic R&B stage-seduction move.

That is, until she promptly shooed him offstage with nary an actual kiss for his trouble. 2NE1 had subverted another American dance-rap cliché with feminine swagger – a sly move from maybe the most exciting new pop group since Lady Gaga first donned hotpants.

The quartet – Dara, CL, Minzy and Bom, leads a tide of South Korean pop groups who currently dominate Asian charts and are beginning to make major inroads with American audiences – Korean American and otherwise.

But of the dozens of groups grappling for the brass ring of hallyu – a catchall term for contemporary South Korean pop – 2NE1 might have the best chance to capture mainstream American audiences. That’s not just because they’re reportedly working with the unerring hitmaker will.i.am on a forthcoming U.S. album.

It’s because 2NE1 represents every direction that pop culture is going – female, global, digital and  danceable.

In that respect, their L.A. debut performance to a packed 7,100-capacity Nokia Theatre proved that K-Pop today looks a lot like the future of music everywhere.  There were shirtless male dancers with pink mohawks trapped inside giant kick drums; there were huge inflatable slides shaped like lipstick tubes; there were Jeremy Scott-designed dresses made to look like the girls were trapped in the jaws of fluffy space monsters.

Why anyone would ever settle for a white guy emoting on an acoustic guitar again is beyond baffling (and there’s some free advice, “American Idol”). But more importantly, 2NE1’s chemistry made the spectacle click. They have an appealing way of subverting their roles in the band – the doe-eyed, 18-year-old Minzy turns out to have dance moves to make Snoop Lion renounce Jah and come back to hip-hop; the brash Dara builds coy steam, but proves unattainably fierce.

This show was a test case of how K-Pop can play for a mixed American crowd. While heavily Korean American, the audience was also a fascinating mix of gay couples on date night and swag-happy hip-hop aesthetes.

Western audiences can sometimes lose the plot of hallyu, because to be frank, the music is sometimes sort of beside the point. 2NE1 has laser-efficient singles like the techno-saturated “Fire” and the blippy house hit “Go Away.” K-Pop’s ballads are often treacly,  but 2NE1’s are workable – the weeper “Lonely” is self-aware enough to avoid camp.

But sometimes they succumbed to the Gaga Problem – the size of their stardom and aesthetic vision can outweigh the actual songs. When zipping over mobile phones in four-minute video bursts, this isn’t a big deal. But at a major two-hour L.A. headlining show, filler like a 10-minute DJ break and aDodger Stadium-style “Kiss Cam” montage felt like a sugar crash.

But 2NE1 is pop is the best ways – the music, the charisma and the gun-noir pyrotechnics all complement each other to create a bigger essence. When will.i.am and apl.de.ap of Black Eyed Peascame out for the closer – the barnburner dance single, “I Am The Best” – anyone who didn’t know better would have assumed they were there to fix a microphone outage.

2NE1 were the stars Friday, and they’re about to become much, much bigger ones.

Dara is a rapper’s muse. Like really. Another one bites the dust. Kekeke! ^^

If you can remember, Dara was also mentioned by hop hop duo, Double Trouble last year in their song that featured Swings. So this time, rapper Swings himself, has mentioned Dara in one of this songs from his album, Punchline King III.

Feature: Netizen Buzz – Idol Anecdotes (2NE1)

1. A fan caught Bom with a group of other people waiting to cross the street. She approached her for an autograph right when the signal turned to walk. Everyone in Bom’s party was crossing the street and they were calling out to her angrily telling her to hurry up and cross, but Bom stayed behind and finished her autograph for the fan. She waited for the next light to cross.

2. When CL was coming home from her vacation in France, fans spotted Dara waiting at the airport with a piece of paper that had ‘Poodoong’ written on it, which is her nickname for CL because her hands are chubby. CL started laughing the minute she saw it.

3. A fan asked CL to remember her and told her her name and everything. The next time she went to see her, she was wearing a hat. When she asked if she knew who she was, CL crouched to see her face under her hat and rememered her name.

4. At an encore stage at a YG family concert, CL picked up a slogun a fan had thrown onto the stage floor. It was Se7en’s so she looked around trying to find him but she couldn’t so she put it right back where she found it.

5. Another fan spotted CL at a popular hangout and called her out saying she had a present for her. She gave her a placard that had Big Bang written on it and CL said, “This isn’t mine!” and gave it back to her.

6. Seungri and Minzy went to the Han river to go for a jog but Seungri ended up leaving Minzy there and came home by himself ㅋㅋㅋ

7. A truck tried to drive by the broadcast hall one day and Minzy came running out shouting “Dad!!!!” in front of all of her fans. Fans were touched to see that she wasn’t embarrassed at her age and with so many people around her.

8. At a YG concert, Bom picked up a placard that had her name and two pictures of her on it. She ran around and found Dara and started showing it off to her. Dara looked like she was really jealous until Bom walked around and found another placard that had Dara’s pictures and name on it. She then ran around again trying to find Dara to give it to her ㅋㅋ

9. It always rains on the day of 2NE1’s first public broadcast comeback so fans that attend the music shows get really frustrated but joke around saying that it’s because 2NE1’s always busting holes through the roof with their all kills.

10. Dara and Minzy gifted all their fans waiting for them at the airport with chocolate and pastries.

11. Managers are really strict with fans at airports and don’t allow for any autographs for safety reasons. Minzy will wait until she gets in the van and then ask her managers for paper so she can hand out autographs to everyone who came.

12. Dara was chatting with people in the official fancafe. When it came time for her to leave, she said, “Good night! ^.^ Bbyong~ zoom~!” but stayed in the chat for a few minutes without leaving. Then she asked, “Wait, how do I leave this?” Fans told her to just press the X at the top ㅋㅋㅋㅋ.

13. Back when the girls had Cyworlds, Bom’s most listened to artist was B2ST, Dara’s MBLAQ, and Minzy’s Yiruma.
