News: 2NE1 Disclosed Track List of Second Regular Album… CL’s Contribution to the Album is Significant

2NE1 DISCLOSED TRACK LIST OF SECOND REGULAR ALBUM… CL’S CONTRIBUTION TO THE ALBUM IS SIGNIFICANT

[스포츠조선 이정혁 기자] The track list of 2NE1’s second regular album “CRUSH” has been disclosed. 2NE1 is to release their second regular album, four years after the first one.

The track list of 2NE1’s new album that was disclosed on the 19 at 10pm on YG’s official blog (www.yg-life.com) shows that 2NE1’s leader CL has greatly contributed to the new album.

CL composed or wrote the lyrics of three songs including track No.1 “CRUSH”, “IF I WERE YOU”, and “BABY I MISS YOU”. She also wrote the lyrics of her solo tracks “MTBD” and “SCREAM”. As such, CL exerted her talent as a singer-songwriter, composing three songs and writing the lyrics of five songs among total 10 songs of the new album.

As CL now takes part in songwriting, adding to her outstanding rap and vocal, expectations for a new change in 2NE1’s color are further heightening.

Some titles in the track list arouse curiosity. The interesting titles include “COME BACK HOME”, a song that has the same title with Taiji & Boys’ “Come Back Home”, which was the title track of Taiji & Boys’ fourth regular album that created sensation in 1995, “GOOD TO YOU”, which is totally contrary to CL’s solo single “THE BADDEST FEMALE”, and “MTBD”. The titles alone are enough to catch eyes as much as the songs themselves are.

Notably, title track “COME BACK HOME” is a cross-over song with a mixture of R&B, reggae, and hip-hop elements, which was made by YG’s main producer TEDDY and other YG producers together. An unplugged version of the song is also contained in the album, which is drawing all the more attention from fans.

For the new album, YG’s leading producers were all called out. It is expected to be an album that well expresses YG’s color and 2NE1’s character, with contribution by TEDDY who has been working with 2NE1 since the team’s debut, CHOICE 37 who has written BIGBANG’s “BAD BOY” and G-DRAGON’s “ONE OF A KIND”, and PK who wrote BIGBANG’s “MONSTER”.

“COME BACK HOME” and “GOTTA BE YOU” have been selected as the double title of 2NE1’s second regular album and the music of the album will be disclosed on on-line music-streaming sites at 12am on the 26. The off-line album will be released on March 7 and total four music videos have been made to entertain fans.

Meanwhile, 2NE1 holds the Seoul concert of their second world tour “ALL OR NOTHING” on March 1 and 2 at Olympic Park SK Handball Hall located in Seoul.

[OSEN=이혜린 기자] YG Entertainment announced on the 19 that girl group 2NE1, who has been creating sensation before their imminent comeback, will release a new album that includes new songs “COME BACK HOME” and “GOTTA BE YOU” on the 27th.

YG’s head Yang Hyun Suk posted the announcement on YG’s blog on the day and said 2NE1 will change the time for the release of their new songs to 0am on the 27, two days later than the original schedule which was set at 0am on the 25. The album will be released on March 7 as originally planned.

Yang went on to say, “The reason why the schedule has been put off is because we decided to release the new album on a more meaningful day. In the second regular album of 2NE1, three songs composed and written by CL for the first time will be contained and as it happens, February 26 is CL’s birthday. We ask for your understanding”.

He also added a detailed explanation about 2NE1’s new songs.

The first title is “COME BACK HOME”. Yang explains, “Since the title is the same with Seotaiji And Boys’ ‘COME BACK HOME’ that was super famous, many people may think of that song. But 2NE1’s ‘COME BACK HOME’ is a totally different song that has the lyrics and melody of a woman missing her lost lover”.

Then, Yang said, “The song is co-produced by YG’s main producer TEDDY and other producers. The genre is cross-over in which a variety of elements of R&B, reggae, and hip-hop are mixed”.

An unplugged version of the song will be also contained in the album. Because the two versions have totally different atmosphere, two different versions of music video will be made. All of them will be disclosed on the 28.

The second title is a song titled “GOTTA BE YOU”. According to Yang, “This song with a quick tempo is co-produced by YG producer TEDDY and PK. It is equipped with a popular appeal and the melody of the main part in which BOM cries ‘GOTTA BE YOU’ leaves a very strong impression”.

Total four music videos have been created for 2NE1’s new album. Yang announced, “On the 28, two versions of ‘COME BACK HOME’s music video will be disclosed and then, the video of the other title ‘GOTTA BE YOU’ and another music video of “HAPPY”, which was shot in the United States, will be disclosed in turn”.

Group 2NE1 member Sandara Park expressed her intentions to recruit Winner’s Kim Jinwoo into YG Cuties Line.

The 2NE1 members were shown visiting the dormitory of Winner when they decided to take the group’s invitation to visit them, as shown in the broadcast of Mnet’s “Winner TV.” 2NE1 spent an hour with Winner, encouraging and advicing them.

In the broadcast, Sandara Park said, “YG has a ‘Swag Swag’ Line. However, I thought of making a ‘Cuties’ Line as well, and recruiting Kim Jinwoo into the group,” she said. Upon hearing this, Kim Jinwoo immediately made to high-five Sandara Park.

However, Sandara Park continued to say, “But when I saw ‘Winner TV’ Kim Jinwoo got lost a lot and snored in his sleep also,” making Kim Jinwoo worry about his invitation.

CL said, “Snoring doesn’t make him not cute anymore though,” to which 2NE1’s maknae Gong Minji also revealed, “But Sandara-unnie snores in her sleep also,” making Sandara Park embarrassed and deny it, to much laughter from the people in the room.

After the bomb that Minji had revealed, Sandara Park immediately said, “When did I ever snore,” making them laugh more with her statement.

News: YG Announces 2NE1′s Album Postponement, Title Tracks, Music Videos and Other Details

YG Announces 2NE1′s Album Postponement, Title Tracks, Music Videos and Other Details

2ne1_fallinginlove_kpop_650-430_0

On February 18, YG Entertainment gave an update on 2NE1‘s comeback, announcing a two day postponement to their second album release.

YG Life posted an announcement that stated 2NE1′s album, which was scheduled to be released on February 24, will be released on February 26 at 12AM (technically February 27). The offline release date is still the same at March 7.

YG explained that since CL has written and composed three songs in the album for the first time, it would be more meaningful if the album was released on February 26, which is her birthday.

The announcement also stated that there will be two title tracks. The first title track is “Come Back Home.” It has the same title as one of the most famous Seotaiji and Boys’ songs, “Come Back Home” in 1995. However, 2NE1′s “Come Back Home” is a completely different song about longing for a lover who has left. “Come Back Home” is produced by YG’s star producer Teddy and is a crossover genre of R&B, reggae and hip-hop.

The album will also contain an unplugged version of “Come Back Home” but since it is so different from the original track, two different versions of the music video will be made and both released on February 28.

The second title track is called “Gotta Be You,” which is co-produced by Teddy and PK. It is a fast-tempo song with a strong melody that can be enjoyed by general public.

YG also announced that there will be four different music videos in total for 2NE1′s second album. After the two versions of “Come Back Home” on February 28, “Gotta Be You” and “Happy,” which was filmed in the US, will be released as well.

Finally, the announcement stated that the track list for 2NE1′s second album will be released tomorrow night at 10PM (KST).

In other news, Girls’ Generation has also announced a delay to their comeback, causing many to wonder about 2NE1 going head-to-head with them.

Article: KpopStarz – The Metamorphosis of 2NE1

The Metamorphosis of 2NE1

2NE1s I Love You single cover Image YG Entertainment

Back in 2008 when 2NE1 was preparing to debut, YG Entertainment rigorously advertised them as being the next ‘Big Bang’ or the ‘female’ Big Bang’. As a result, audiences had a pre-conceived notion of what they thought 2NE1 was going to be. In essence, even before their debut, people were already forming an image of them as a basic reflection of their predecessors. How have they changed that image throughout the years? And how has that image gained them success both nationally and overseas?

Since 2NE1 is bound to comeback this month, I think it is relevant to discuss their story of success, which I argue, is directly related to their music.

Although Big Bang is exclusively a hip-hop group, with some variations here and there, 2NE1 is much more experimental and we’ve seen this through the years. Take, for example, their songs (in chronological order) ‘I Don’t Care’, ‘It Hurts’ and ‘Falling In Love‘. Although not authentically, these tracks have distinct Reggae characteristics that remind audiences of the genre. They also attempt to explore punk rock with songs like ‘Ugly‘ and R&B with ‘Love is Ouch’, ‘You and I’ and ‘Missing You’. This is 2NE1‘s weapon for success: the integration of universal and trending genres in their music.

2NE1‘s music, therefore, is not only appealing to South Korean audiences but also to international ones. They are the representation of the Hallyu wave. Their collaborations with foreign artists such as will.i.am and Snoop Dogg (on stage) further legitimizes their overseas appeal. 2NE1 is responsible for being an outlier in South Korea’s idol girl groups, which in turn leads to them to success through a distinct color.

But what about the international success of other girl groups? Arirang TV’s ‘Showbiz Korea’ ranked the top 5 most loved k-pop songs overseas in 2013. Girls’ Generation’s ‘Gee’ ranked 2nd place. So maybe music genre is not the only factor of success? Maybe the Hallyu audience is much more accepting?

Please keep your eyes peeled for 2NE1’s comeback this month!
