News: 2NE1, Named As MTV IGGY’s Best New Band In The World

Girl group 2NE1 has been recognized as the next generation’s best new band in the world.

On the 11th, one of the music networks run by music channel MTV, called MTV Iggy, named 2NE1 as the “Best New Band In the World,” ranking 1st among the Top 10 candidates.

You cheered, you prayed, you voted your hearts out…and after 6 weeks of passion and dedication, you crowned 2NE1 MTV Iggy’s Best Band in the World!!

And for that, you deserve a massive blowout celebration.

MTV Iggy invited our newly crowned Queens CL, Dara, Bom, and Minzy to perform in America, and they said yes!

On December 12th, 2NE1 will take over the place known as the “crossroads of the world”and the “center of the universe” — Times Square in New York City. And by “take over” we mean, take over.

The K-pop superstars will headline a live, mega-concert alongside fellow BNB finalists at MTV’s Times Square Studios and other venues. The multi-location event will be streamed on mtviggy.com, on MTV’s giant 44 1/2 inch HD jumbotron screen in Times Square, and supported by other MTVs.

Photos/Info: The Awesome “I Am Never Getting Off, EVER!” YG Train

It’s soooo awesome! I’m going to ride there and never leave, and just stare at Dara (and TOP, and Se7en, and Tablo)! Hahaha!

Just some info about the train: Apparently, YGE has transformed one of the Bundang trains into a YG Family train! The train is decorated with YG Family photos and designs, from the inside and out! The terminal from which the train stops, is also decorated with YG Family goodness. From the picture, we can see that the 2ne1 section of the train is in white and pink, while the other sections are mostly in black.

The train has an LCD monitor, which will show the YG Family Concert spots (videos), plus MVs: Big Bang’s “Tonight,” Tablo’s “Bad,” 2NE1’s “I Am The Best,” and others. The train is part of the promotions for the YG Family Concert, which is also a 15th anniversary commemoration concert. ^_^

Feature: 2NE1 at #22 on MTV’s Music Meter

So, what is MTV’s Music Meter?

MTV Music Meter provides music lovers with news and information about up-and-coming acts.

For this project, MTV worked with music intelligence company EchoNest to develop an algorithm that combs through blogs, social media, video and more traditional metrics (like radio plays and sales) to determine which bands are receiving the most attention on any given day. Fans can click on any band to listen to 30-second sections of songs (via Rhapsody), watch music videos, see photos, read tweets about that artist as well as news and bios, and find bands that are similar to the artist in question.

(You can only listen to 30-second clips right now, but in the future Rhapsody users — and other music subscription service users — will be able to listen to full songs as MTV adds more sources for tracks.)

Users can also search for any artist — even those who aren’t all that buzzy — and delve into news, music and check out artists of the same ilk.

“One of the ways MTV has helped people find great music is through curation,” says Shannon Connolly, VP of digital music strategy. Now, she says, the network can help people get access to more bands, more easily — especially bands who might not be able to get on-air play in traditional settings.

According to MTV, this tool is currently only available as a website and as part of the forthcoming MTV Music ID pack from Sprint, but should be coming to iPhone and Android devices by the year’s end.

“The traditional methods of measuring artists’ popularity are somewhat antiquated,” Connolly says, mentioning how MTV could, in the future, track such things as Foursquare checkins to measure concert attendance. It’s no longer about album sales alone, anymore — it’s about engagement.

The fact that such established music information sources as MTV and Billboard are now gauging artists’ popularity by their social media cache really highlights how important a strong online presence has become for an artist’s success.

Japanese News: 2NE1 to Advance in Thailand and Vietnam!

On the 20th, According to the affiliation office, 2NE1 is set to advance in Thailand and Vietnam following Japan promotions, and then extend their activities in other Asia market.

2NE1, who is currently promoting in Japan, will hold their first independent concert in Bangkok, Thailand this 29th of this month.
