Popular Korean pop quartet 2NE1 surprised about 2,000 local fans on Friday night when they appeared on a makeshift stage at Clarke Quay to perform five songs.

SingTel, which organised the concert at Read Bridge, had kept the group’s identity a secret until just past 7pm when the four girls popped up on stage.

But some fans had speculated that the performers were 2NE1 when the foursome – Lee Chaerin, 21, better known as CL; lead vocalist Park Bom, 28; vocalist Park Sandara, 27; and rapper Gong Minji, 18, better known as Minzy – were spotted earlier shopping at Marina Bay Sands.

Still, it was a treat to have their suspicions confirmed, said 2NE1 fans.

2NE1 also stated that TLC and the Spice Girls were their inspirations for becoming a group with unique styles.

Other girl groups such as the Wonder Girls and Girls’ Generation are also trying to break into the U.S. market, but 2NE1 explains that there is no competition because each group each has something different to bring to the table.

News: YG’s Artists Caught In “Rush Hour” Traffic

YG’s Artists Caught In “Rush Hour” Traffic

Right now, it’s “YG War.”

After Psy achieved global success with “Gangnam Style,” Big Bang’G-Dragon quickly followed suit. On September 15, he released his solo mini-album “One of A Kind” with the title track “Crayon.” Even though he didn’t actively promote his title track, it still hogged the spotlight for a good time during the peak of his promotion period.

Epik High is next on the promotion list to the delight of fans who have patiently waited for more than 3 years for new material. They have just released the song “It’s Cold” featuring labelmate Lee Ha Yi ahead of their album release on October 19. The song has achieved “all-kill” status continuing the popularity of the other YG artists. Next up is none other than the not-really rookie Lee Ha Yi who is most known as the runner up for the highly competitive and popular SBS’s “K-Pop Star.” She will make her official debut on October 29.

A small disclaimer, but the following order on the promotion roster is a rumor. SuPearls (consisting of other contestants of “K-Pop Star” Lee MichelleLee Jung MiLee Seung Joo and also Lee Ha Yi), a group originally planning to make their debut in September, was pushed back by the unexpected popularity of Psy’s “Gangnam Style.”

In November, 2NE1 and Big Bang’s Taeyang are planning to release new material. 2NE1 has already released their single “I Love You” in July and have proved their undying popularity. They’re aiming for a full-length album this time around. There’s much expectations for Taeyang, who experienced much success with his previous solo songs like “Look Only At Me” and “Wedding Dress.”

Dubbed as “YG’s Girls’ Generation,” the girl group was also originally supposed to debut simultaneously with SuPearls. They have now been pushed back to January 2013.

An industry official commented, “YG Entertainment started this year with Se7en and if we had to use baseball as an analogy for YG this year, they hit a homerun. There’s no strike. It’s highly likely that “YG Rush Hour” will last til the end of this year. If Psy’s ‘Gangnam Style’ continues to stay addictingly popular, there’s no telling how the traffic will ease up. It’s normal for entertainment companies to not expect any security, but YG Entertainment is doing beyond well. “

Kim Wan Sun, “I Want To Be a 2NE1 Member” Why?

Kim Wan Sun showed interested in 2NE1.

Singer Kim Wan Sun came out in SBS “You and I” yesterday.

On this day, she was asked “If you were to join a girl group right now, which girl group would you want to be in?”, and she answered, “2NE1, no doubt about it.”

She continued, “Doing the same thing with other people does not fit with my personality. 2NE1 members are all unique in their own ways. I think that fits me well.”

Jung Jae Hyung then said, “If you go into 2NE1, you might have to shave half of your head”, arousing laughter.

T/N: Not really clear if they are going to release a new single, new singles, or a new album on November. We would just have to wait and see.

2NE1 and Taeyang to Release New Songs in November

It seems Big Bang‘s Taeyang and the girls of 2NE1 will be returning to the music scene in November!

According to information revealed to ‘Star News’ by YG Entertainment‘s Yang Hyun Suk, Taeyang and 2NE1 are both set to release new projects next month.

“Although 2NE1 was originally scheduled to release a new album in October, due to their world tour, it is most likely at the moment that they will be releasing new material in November instead,” Yang Hyun Suk stated. “For the time being, we have scheduled for 2NE1 to record this month… You’ll be able to meet new songs overflowing with 2NE1′s unique style this coming November.”

On Taeyang’s solo comeback, he commented, “For Taeyang’s case, he was originally going to to release a solo album this past summer with G-Dragon and start promotions… He worked with American producers and had completed the new album. However, he, as well as I, were both not completely satisfied and thus decided not to release it at the time.”

“Taeyang is currently reworking on the solo album and may be able to release a new song as a single first in November… I’m a fan of Taeyang myself, so I am highly anticipating the stage for his new solo song,” he said, and wrapped up by adding, “In October, YG’s Epik High as well as Lee Hi (Lee Ha Yi) will also reveal new songs… As we’re also expecting 2NE1 and Taeyang promotions on top of all that, we are already looking forward to enjoying the end of the year with fans.”
