News: 2NE1 Holds a Successful Concert in the Phili[ppines, Celebrating 5th Anniversary of their Debut

2NE1 HOLDS A SUCCESSFUL CONCERT IN THE PHILIPPINES, CELEBRATING 5TH ANNIVERSARY OF THEIR DEBUT

[enews24 전수미 기자] YG Entertainment(YG)’s power girl group 2NE1 held a concert celebrating the 5th anniversary of their debut in the Philippines, which was a great success.

On the evening of May 17, the day that 2NE1 debuted five years ago, the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila, the Philippines, was packed with local fans who came to see 2NE1’s world tour, “ALL OR NOTHING.”

Wearing stylish and colorful outfits on stage, 2NE1 started the concert with their 2nd regular album’s title track, “CRUSH,” and captivated fans.

2NE1 impressed fans by singing songs in various genres from hit songs that boast powerful performances such as “FIRE,” “CLAP YOUR HANDS,” and “PRETTY BOY,” to sentimental songs with soft vocals such as “MISSING YOU,” “IF I WERE YOU,” and the unplugged version of “COME BACK HOME.”

Local fans enthusiastically welcomed 2NE1’s first-ever concert in the Philippines by singing along to all lyrics in Korean. 2NE1 performed a total of 18 songs including pervious hit songs, “I AM THE BEST” and “I DON’T CARE,” as well as their 2nd regular album’s new tracks, “COME BACK HOME,” “GOTTA BE YOU,” and “SCREAM.”

Local fans were especially excited for 2NE1’s first exclusive concert in the Philippines because DARA used to be a local performer while living there. As a way to respond to the great enthusiasm of local fans, 2NE1 prepared a special performance by other members of 2NE1 singing along DARA’s single that she released in the Philippines, “IN OR OUT.”

2NE1 also arranged a special stage to celebrate the 5th anniversary of their debut.

Cakes in various colors sent from fans were displayed on stage so that 2NE1 could celebrate the special occasion not only among themselves, but also with fans. 2NE1 playfully put the cake’s icing on each others’ faces, which drew a joyful cheer from the audience

DARA posted a message on her SNS in Tagalog after the concert ended, saying, “I’m the happiest person right now. Black jack! 2NE1 loves you!”

Meanwhile, WINNER, a new boy band that YG has put together for the first time in eight years, showcased their new songs “GO UP” and “JUST ANOTHER BOY” as opening acts of 2NE1’s concert in the Philippines, leaving a memorable impression on local fans.

Following the concert’s great success in the Philippines, 2NE1 will travel to Malaysia on May 24 to continue their world tour concert in Kuala Lumpur.

Article: Billboard ~ “Happy 5th Anniversary, 2NE1! 5 Must-See Music Videos From the K-Pop Phenoms”

Happy 5th Anniversary, 2NE1! 5 Must-See Music Videos From the K-Pop Phenoms

2ne1_do_you_love_me_mv_kpop_650-430

In May 2009, Psy‘s record label YG Entertainment debuted a four-member girl group 2NE1. Consisting of CL, Bom, Dara and Minzy, 2NE1 instantly made waves for easily pulling off unconventional tracks. The quartet mixed hip-hop and dance, blended diva belts with quick-spit rapping, each single always accompanied by an incredible visual.

To celebrate 2NE1‘s half-decade together, Billboard takes a look back at five must-watch videos from the girl’s YouTube channel. There’s a reason the K-pop quartet have earned more than half a billion views, take a look at five below.

5

“Fire” (2009)

“Fire” was the first taste of what would become 2NE1’s signature YouTube presence: Over-the-top visuals, a fierce sound and automatic playback appeal. “Fire” opens with leader CL donning futuristic, LED-display sunglasses before the pulsing synths and rumbling percussion kick in. With costumes that straddled the line of sexy and bizarre — see CL‘s cutout catsuit, Bom‘s Playboy-bunny look — 2NE1 shone not only for their fearless video style, but as a fun alternative to the glamorous and cutie-pie female acts.

4

“Do You Love Me” (2013)

While 2NE1 has delivered top-notch, expensive visuals throughout their half-decade together, last year’s “Do You Love Me” is remarkable for being the antithesis to it all. No ridiculous sets or costumes, just the girls goofing off at a pool party, in the car and inside a club. Filmed with its Instagram-esque filter, it felt like the viewers were hanging right there with the band.

It was a fun, rare experience for fans to see the quartet stripped of the gloss and display their personalities at the forefront; a smart move given 2NE1 boasts four truly distinct characters.

3

“Can’t Nobody” (2010)

When “Can’t Nobody” hit YouTube in 2010, fans saw 2NE1 up their swagger to the next degree. The visuals were more detailed (CL sporting animal print in her hair, dope graffiti), the fashion was crazier (Minzy‘s skeleton bandana, Dara swimming in an ocean of cloth) and the sets made you wonder “How’d they film that?” (see the shots where the girls play to camera while riding and down a flashy slide).

It also felt like we could get to know the members’ personalities more, like further solidifying Minzy as the ferocious booty shaker, CL as the charismatic, badass leader and Dara as the enigmatic beauty whose shy demeanor does a 180 in front of the camera.

2

“Missing You” (2013)

Again in 2013, the outfit revealed their softer side via this winter ballad single. The gorgeous, simple styling of the vid showcased sophistication with just the right amount of the group’s signature edginess (face stickers, unconventional hair styles, neon animal print) needed to make it a true 2NE1 video.

While 2012 electro-ballad “I Love You” also ranks high on 2NE1’s top visuals, the simplistic style of “Missing You” trumps for making an emotionally jarring experience. The climax of the video undoubtedly when CL bares all for the camera, covering herself with only her arms and legs, as a stunning visual metaphor for the track’s stirring raw sentiment. All or nothing, right?

1

“I Am the Best” (2011)

Throughout all the looks, styles and sound, none seem to define 2NE1 as much as “I Am the Best.” The visual to what might arguably be their signature song has more than 90 million views on YouTube — one of the most viewed K-pop videos ever. Utilizing everything from animals and cars to dominatrix catsuits and straitjackets, it all screamed “Fierce fierce fierce!”

If the “Fire” video was the initial promise to fans that 2NE1 would always bring it visually, “I Am the Best” is perhaps the girls’ best fulfillment of that…so far. And the girls smashing their own platinum records with baseball bats on third chorus seems to indicate that there are even more boundaries for them to push. Here’s to another five years of even more insane visuals.

News: Inquirer ~ “2NE1 and Philipine Blackjacks Re-United” + Philippine Star – “2NE1 Overwhelmed with Filipino Fans’ Welcome”

2NE1 and PH Blackjacks reunited

MANILA, Philippines – Filipino fans of Korean girl group 2NE1 were treated to an open press conference Friday night.

Bom, CL, Dara, and Minzy made almost an hour-long appearance at a mall in Pasig City to meet with members of the Philippine media as well as their fans who have been anticipating their arrival since morning of May 16.

But before the girls of 2NE1 arrived at the venue of the press conference, a cover group called Sapphire entertained the crowd by performing some of 2NE1’s chart-topping songs.

Also during the pre-press conference program, meet-and-greet passes and VIP tickets to the concert were given away through raffles and a dance contest.

The event was hosted by the “Krimmy couple,” a moniker combining the names of real-life sweethearts blogger Kring Elenzano and Philippine-based Korean photographer Jimmy Kim.

When the girls arrived, screams and nothing but screams dominated the place. The hosts had to, from time to time, ask the crowd to keep it down so the girls would hear the media and vice versa. But keeping it down was proven difficult especially when the group finally started answering questions from the press.

“I feel happy to be here. I missed you guys,” Bom told the fans when host Kring Elenzano asked how they feel about being in the Philippines again.

“I feel so blessed,” the group’s leader, CL, exclaimed when fans kept on cheering and chanting her name when it was her turn to speak.

“Ang init ng weather (The weather’s hot). Ang init din ng pagtanggap ninyo (And your reception as well). Ito ang hinintay ko talaga (This is what I’ve really been waiting for),” Dara answered, she was pertaining to being able to hold a concert in the Philippines together with the girls of 2NE1. This caused a louder roar among the crowd.

More love for Blackjacks

2ne12

When asked what separates 2NE1 from other Korean girl groups, Dara answered “Unique kami dahil sa music namin (We’re unique because of our music), at dahil sa inyong mga Blackjack! (and because of you Blackjacks!)”

And it seems like Dara is not the only one who’s up for appearances in local Pinoy TV shows. When the group’s participation in the TV show “The Bachelor” was mentioned, CL commented: “You know we want to come out in some TV shows here.”

From 2NE1 to the fans

Bom kept her message short but sweet. Before she took charge of the mic, she was seen whispering with Dara, and then she exclaimed “Mahal kita” twice.

While CL said she will express her love for the fans best during their concert. “It’s unbelievable [the support from fans]. Thank you so much. I can’t put it in my words. I’ll just show you tomorrow,” she explained.

2NE1 is set to perform at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on Saturday night, May 17, for their “All Or Nothing Tour”. The group also celebrates their 5th anniversary since debut on the same day.

News: ABS-CBN ~ “Review: Fans Pumped Up at 2NE1 Concert”

Review : Fans pumped up at 2NE1 concert

051814_2ne1

MANILA — Smacked just a couple of feet away from the stage, it was hard not to get pumped up at the All Or Nothing concert of the South Korean girl group 2NE1 at the Mall of Asia Arena on Saturday night.

The group’s avid fans dubbed Blackjacks, who filled the seats from the upper box down to the VIP section, were all waving glow sticks while screaming out fanchants to the group composed of CL, Minzy, Bom and Dara — or Sandara Park to her legion of Filipino supporters.

Some held up banners and many took pictures. And when the lights were dimmed down and an introductory video played on the giant screens, the entire arena echoed with screaming fans, who were now all on their feet.

The song “Crush” blasted from the speakers and the four members of 2NE1, as if coming out of nowhere, were suddenly there on the stage.

The group’s chart-topping songs like “Fire,” “Can’t Nobody,” “I Am The Best,” and “Come Back Home” from their newest album were among the 25 songs performed on Saturday night.

The encores even included Park’s Filipino hit “In or Out,” which was performed by all four members.

Halfway through the concert, 2NE1 called out surprise guests to the stage, starting with YG Entertainment’s newest boy group, Winner. Also known as Team A from the reality-survival show “Who is Next: WIN,” the group performed “Just Another Boy” and “Go Up.”

Park also brought local celebrities Jason Abalos, Joross Gamboa, Sam Milby and Ram from G Force to the stage for the sexy lap dance number for the hit “I Love You.”

Park later thanked the guys for being there at the show on her official Twitter account.

Saturday’s show also marked 2NE1’s fifth anniversary.

“Special ang araw na ito dahil dito kami sa Manila magse-celebrate ng fifth year anniversary namin,” Park said in flawless Tagalog. (T/N: This is a special day because we’re celebrating our fifth year anniversary in Manila.”

The group made its debut on May 17, 2009 with their first single “Fire.”

All four members expressed their happiness for having reached this career milestone. Their managers, back-up dancers, and staff were called on stage, and cakes were brought out to mark the celebration.

The group’s leader, CL, also thanked the fans for their support.

“Thank you so much for making this night so beautiful. I don’t know why it took us so long to get here, I don’t wanna leave,” she said. “Tonight is a very special night for us. It’s our fifth anniversary and we’re happy to spend it with you guys.”

Park said she’s happy to have finally staged a full concert of 2NE1 for their Filipino fans.

“I’m so happy to be here with 2NE1 and Blackjacks. Mahal ko kayo!” she said.

The concert ended with the final encore number “Can’t Nobody” as gold confetti rained at the MOA Arena.
