News: YG Announces 2NE1′s Album Postponement, Title Tracks, Music Videos and Other Details

YG Announces 2NE1′s Album Postponement, Title Tracks, Music Videos and Other Details

2ne1_fallinginlove_kpop_650-430_0

On February 18, YG Entertainment gave an update on 2NE1‘s comeback, announcing a two day postponement to their second album release.

YG Life posted an announcement that stated 2NE1′s album, which was scheduled to be released on February 24, will be released on February 26 at 12AM (technically February 27). The offline release date is still the same at March 7.

YG explained that since CL has written and composed three songs in the album for the first time, it would be more meaningful if the album was released on February 26, which is her birthday.

The announcement also stated that there will be two title tracks. The first title track is “Come Back Home.” It has the same title as one of the most famous Seotaiji and Boys’ songs, “Come Back Home” in 1995. However, 2NE1′s “Come Back Home” is a completely different song about longing for a lover who has left. “Come Back Home” is produced by YG’s star producer Teddy and is a crossover genre of R&B, reggae and hip-hop.

The album will also contain an unplugged version of “Come Back Home” but since it is so different from the original track, two different versions of the music video will be made and both released on February 28.

The second title track is called “Gotta Be You,” which is co-produced by Teddy and PK. It is a fast-tempo song with a strong melody that can be enjoyed by general public.

YG also announced that there will be four different music videos in total for 2NE1′s second album. After the two versions of “Come Back Home” on February 28, “Gotta Be You” and “Happy,” which was filmed in the US, will be released as well.

Finally, the announcement stated that the track list for 2NE1′s second album will be released tomorrow night at 10PM (KST).

In other news, Girls’ Generation has also announced a delay to their comeback, causing many to wonder about 2NE1 going head-to-head with them.

Article: KpopStarz – The Metamorphosis of 2NE1

The Metamorphosis of 2NE1

2NE1s I Love You single cover Image YG Entertainment

Back in 2008 when 2NE1 was preparing to debut, YG Entertainment rigorously advertised them as being the next ‘Big Bang’ or the ‘female’ Big Bang’. As a result, audiences had a pre-conceived notion of what they thought 2NE1 was going to be. In essence, even before their debut, people were already forming an image of them as a basic reflection of their predecessors. How have they changed that image throughout the years? And how has that image gained them success both nationally and overseas?

Since 2NE1 is bound to comeback this month, I think it is relevant to discuss their story of success, which I argue, is directly related to their music.

Although Big Bang is exclusively a hip-hop group, with some variations here and there, 2NE1 is much more experimental and we’ve seen this through the years. Take, for example, their songs (in chronological order) ‘I Don’t Care’, ‘It Hurts’ and ‘Falling In Love‘. Although not authentically, these tracks have distinct Reggae characteristics that remind audiences of the genre. They also attempt to explore punk rock with songs like ‘Ugly‘ and R&B with ‘Love is Ouch’, ‘You and I’ and ‘Missing You’. This is 2NE1‘s weapon for success: the integration of universal and trending genres in their music.

2NE1‘s music, therefore, is not only appealing to South Korean audiences but also to international ones. They are the representation of the Hallyu wave. Their collaborations with foreign artists such as will.i.am and Snoop Dogg (on stage) further legitimizes their overseas appeal. 2NE1 is responsible for being an outlier in South Korea’s idol girl groups, which in turn leads to them to success through a distinct color.

But what about the international success of other girl groups? Arirang TV’s ‘Showbiz Korea’ ranked the top 5 most loved k-pop songs overseas in 2013. Girls’ Generation’s ‘Gee’ ranked 2nd place. So maybe music genre is not the only factor of success? Maybe the Hallyu audience is much more accepting?

Please keep your eyes peeled for 2NE1’s comeback this month!

In the poster, there is a hand that is stretched out to light in the space and the title of the event “’PRIVATE EVENT THE LISTENING” with words “2NE1 NEW ALBUM CRUSH”.

Generally, a showcase is held before a singer releases a new album, but 2NE1 holds this unusual private music-listening event. This is the expression of 2NE1’s confidence in the new album that they want to receive a fair evaluation for the album on which they have been working hard for a long time, from fans and experts of different fields.

In their first regular album “TO ANYONE”, 2NE1 attempted a wide variety of genres including electronic, hip-hop, and slow tempo. Plus, they have entertained fans with their bold trial of new genres and dramatic transformations for every new song. Thus, it is worthwhile to pay attention to what review the experts will give to 2NE1’s new music at the event.

2NE1’s new album contains total ten songs and it is known that there will be three songs that are composed and written by CL for the first time in the album. So, fans are paying keen attention to the album.

News: Will 2NE1 ‘Crush’ Girls’ Generation In ‘All Or Nothing’ Battle?

Will 2NE1 ‘Crush’ Girls’ Generation In ‘All Or Nothing’ Battle? Billboard Highlights February 24 Release Date For Both Album Comebacks!

snsd21

As 2NE1 prepares for their epic comeback, everyone is buzzing about their full-length album release date—the same day as Girls’ Generation.

As the two biggest K-pop girl groups in the world, 2NE1 and Girls’ Generation will be releasing two new albums on February 24—”Crush” and “Mr.Mr.,” respectively.

And while Girls’ Generation has already released a music video teaser for their comeback single “Mr.Mr.,” 2NE1 fans are still waiting for their own single and music video.

According to Billboard, “Crush” will drop on February 24, along with a teaser for the music video of the yet-to-be-announced single.

The single will then have its music video release on February 28, with reportedly “the largest budget for the group” at $470,000.

This is a slightly different tactic from Girls’ Generation, who will release the music video for “Mr.Mr.” on February 19, ahead of the album release.

It’s hard to tell whether this is intentional, but everyone is anticipating the epic music chart war that will descend upon K-pop when 2NE1 and Girls’ Generation release their albums at the same time.

Recently, 2NE1 has received a lot of worldwide attention, including a recent guest star appearance on popular ABC reality series “The Bachelor” and a new endorsement for CL with Maybelline New York.

In addition, 2NE1 has been covering the preparations and plans for their upcoming world tour “All or Nothing.”
