YG-Life: 2NE1 Talks About Producer CL

2NE1이-직접-밝힌-프로듀서-씨엘

[마이데일리 = 최지예 기자] Girl group 2NE1 (CL, MINZY, BOM, and DARA) talked about the producing capabilities of the team’s leader CL.

2NE1 had an open rehearsal for their second world tour “ALL OR NOTHING” and held a press meeting about the release of their second regular album on the 20 at 3pm at KINTEX located in Ilsan, the city of Goyang.

At the meeting, MINZY said, “I was really impressed by CL’s songs. Even though we have been so busy recently with practice, CL has been making time to write her own songs and record them. Her songs are very creative, so I thought they were really awesome”.

Then, DARA took the turn to compliment CL by saying, “CL has written total three songs. All those three songs are totally different, so I also thought that the songs are so novel and original. We have been working only with TEDDY for every album. But this time, CL, who knows very well about us, created our own color. I even thought that I heard my real voice for the first time in six years, while recording those songs. It was so much fun. When I first heard “CRUSH”, I thought it was written by a foreign songwriter. Then, CL said she made it”.

CL responded, “Those three songs were actually not created for the new album. I didn’t imagine that 2NE1 would sing the songs all together. When I’m bored, I come up with lots of inspirations. One day, I was just at home and suddenly, I wanted to say lots of stories. Plus, I thought ‘what would it be like if I say this’ or ‘what about talking about this’. So, I wrote the songs just personally. Notably, I have never imagined I could ever write lyrics in Korean. First, I began by making an English demo. It has been only a few months since I began writing songs and now I have come to have this good opportunity naturally, in a very short period of time. I’m really grateful about it and I look forward to the result. But, at the same time, I’m concerned, too”.

CL made the people at the meeting laugh by answering “Each of the songs is unique and since all of them are like my own children, I can’t pick only one”, to a request to pick the song that she likes the most among the three.

BOM added, “There is a song named ‘BABY I MISS YOU’ among CL’s three songs. I liked the song so much that I insisted I sing the song alone. When I first heard that CL was writing songs, I was just like ‘Oh, are you?’ I didn’t imagine CL would write such good songs. I think the songs will live up to your expectations. Since the songs were written by CL, I received her direction for my vocal and I was scolded a lot while recording. At those parts, my vocal stands out”.

Lastly, CL talked about the meaning of the new album, “Our second regular album is full of new songs. We expressed every genre we can try and every emotion that we have”.

Meanwhile, 2NE1 begins their second world tour on March 1 and 2 at Olympic Park SK Handball Hall located in Bangi-dong, Songpa-gu, Seoul. The tour begins in Korea and then goes on to hold total 15 concerts in 12 cities in nine countries including Japan, China, Taiwan, Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Singapore.

Same title, completely different song. “Come Back Home” has the feel of music that I usually like, and the music video is something to look forward to.” Dara said she wore the Beanie that she’s wearing in the press conference in the MV and she liked it so much she wears it a lot now.

He also said that CL works very hard but is very humble while Minzy enjoys the stage the most. “I was happy to work with them at the beginning. But now that I’m back to working with them now, this time feels even more special. Although rehearsals just started not too long ago, but the progress is going really well. The musical performances and styles are something to look forward to. I’m really happy to be here.”

Minzy: I’m preparing for the After Party already. I will go with the mindset that I’m going to play hard. I look forward to it.

Dara: “We’ll play like this only once a year anyway. After the concert, we’ll go to the club for the After Party and turn the entire place into a dance battle.”

Dara: “Minzy-yang dances really well, so please look forward to her.”

Dara: “After the concert, the club will be our stage. We want to have a ‘noraebang’ feel where people can just play comfortably.”

Dara: “Because we (SNSD and 2NE1) were gone for a while, expectations are big. Their music has a different color from ours. Music is the one we all should look forward to. Our group and their group (SNSD) have very different musical colors.”

Minzy: “We prepared hard for this album. I hope both groups will do well.”

Dara on their Album: “We’re very satisfied with the album, the release was put off until we were all satisfied with it.”

News: YG Announces 2NE1′s Album Postponement, Title Tracks, Music Videos and Other Details

YG Announces 2NE1′s Album Postponement, Title Tracks, Music Videos and Other Details

2ne1_fallinginlove_kpop_650-430_0

On February 18, YG Entertainment gave an update on 2NE1‘s comeback, announcing a two day postponement to their second album release.

YG Life posted an announcement that stated 2NE1′s album, which was scheduled to be released on February 24, will be released on February 26 at 12AM (technically February 27). The offline release date is still the same at March 7.

YG explained that since CL has written and composed three songs in the album for the first time, it would be more meaningful if the album was released on February 26, which is her birthday.

The announcement also stated that there will be two title tracks. The first title track is “Come Back Home.” It has the same title as one of the most famous Seotaiji and Boys’ songs, “Come Back Home” in 1995. However, 2NE1′s “Come Back Home” is a completely different song about longing for a lover who has left. “Come Back Home” is produced by YG’s star producer Teddy and is a crossover genre of R&B, reggae and hip-hop.

The album will also contain an unplugged version of “Come Back Home” but since it is so different from the original track, two different versions of the music video will be made and both released on February 28.

The second title track is called “Gotta Be You,” which is co-produced by Teddy and PK. It is a fast-tempo song with a strong melody that can be enjoyed by general public.

YG also announced that there will be four different music videos in total for 2NE1′s second album. After the two versions of “Come Back Home” on February 28, “Gotta Be You” and “Happy,” which was filmed in the US, will be released as well.

Finally, the announcement stated that the track list for 2NE1′s second album will be released tomorrow night at 10PM (KST).

In other news, Girls’ Generation has also announced a delay to their comeback, causing many to wonder about 2NE1 going head-to-head with them.

News: 500 Million Won Budgeted for 2NE1’s New MV: Top Secret Work With New Director

500 MILLION WON BUDGETED FOR 2NE1’S NEW MV: TOP SECRET WORK WITH NEW DIRECTOR

단독-2NE1-뮤비에-5억원-투입..신예-감독과-극비-작업

[OSEN=이혜린 기자] YG’s girl group 2NE1 is about to showcase a grand scale music on Feb 24.

2NE1’s new full album, the first one in 6 years, is to be filled with new songs. And their music video is worth a whopping 500 million won. This blockbuster-level video is even unprecedented for YG, an entertainment agency that often showcases grand MV’s.

To set it apart from other MV’s, new directors and staffers were involved in the making. Which director is involved is kept as top secret, but according to the crew, it is done by someone completely new who has never worked on music videos yet.

YANG HYUN SUK, on YG’s official blog uploaded on Feb 13, wrote about the comeback, “The music video (MV) of 2NE1’s latest title song, which is an MV with the largest budget for the group, requires high level of computer graphic work. So a teaser video will be unveiled first on February 24th, and then a completed version on February 28th.”

He added, “2NE1’s 2nd full album is titled “CRUSH,” which means “break” or “destroy,” but could also be used when saying “having a crush on someone.” Since this is the first album in many years, rather than focusing on the structural aspect of the album, we put more thoughts and effort into choosing every single soundtrack, as though every one of them is the title song.”

There will be a total of 10 songs in this album, and 3 of them are composed by CL. 2NE1’s first performance will be held at Seoul concert of their 2nd World Tour on March 1.

New 2NE1 Album ‘CRUSH’ To Feature 3 Songs By CL, According To YG Entertainment CEO Yang Hyun Suk

838592593

YG Entertainment co-founder and CEO Yang Hyun Suk sent his yearly message to fans on Wednesday, a practical State of the Union for the K-pop label.

And though Yang’s letter covered a variety of topics, the majority of the music mogul’s message was devoted to the popular girl group 2NE1.

“Just hearing the name 2NE1 makes our hearts throb,” Yang wrote.

“People who are not familiar with the details might think I am overreacting when I say that, but I do so because 2NE1, who made their debut six years ago, will be unveiling a full-length album of new material of for the very first time.”

He then launched into a brief history of the group’s recordings.

“2NE1 released their first album four years ago in September of 2010, but it was an album with just a few new songs added to previous [material that had been released on] soundtracks,” Yang wrote.

Their new 2NE1 album, “CRUSH,” is scheduled for release on Feb. 24.

According to Yang, the band’s frontwoman, CL, stepped up her level of creative involvement on the album.

“The part that you have to really look at in 2NE1’s new album is that CL, the leader, included a whopping three songs that she composed, for the first time ever in her life,” he wrote.

“You are the ones to judge the quality of her music. But when I first listened to CL’s very own song, the one word that described my feeling was ‘surprised.’ Which is only natural, because I have known CL for eight years and I never expected her to produce a song like this, and the song was too good to be her very first one.”

“CL is one of the very few South Korean female rappers who is known for her charismatic performance and outstanding fashion sense, and I am sure creating her own song will act as a foothold for CL to take another leap forward,” he added.

“I can tell that this will bring big changes to 2NE1’s future music, while also lighting a path for CL to produce her own solo album.”

News: 2NE1 Announces Full-Length Album ‘Crush,’ New Single Details

2NE1 Announces Full-Length Album ‘Crush,’ New Single Details

2NE11

Details of the K-pop phenoms’ first LP in almost four years, along with CL’s solo news, come to light

After nearly four years of waiting, 2NE1 fans were gifted a load of exciting details about 2NE1’s upcoming full-length album — and it’s coming soon!

According to a blog post from the chief producer of 2NE1’s record label Yang Hyun-Suk — one of Billboard’s International Power Players of 2014 — the new LP “Crush” will feature 10 completely new songs. Since summer 2012, 2NE1 has dropped four K-Pop Hot 100 chart smashes, including the No. 1 hit “I Love You,”plus “Falling in Love,” “Do You Love Me?” and “Missing You,” which all peaked at No. 2. According to the blog post, the only song fans will have heard before will be a past single 2NE1 released in Japan translated into Korean. This will likely be the 2012 single “Scream,” a Top 20 hit on the Japan Hot 100.

Yang added that the girl group’s leader, rapper/singer CL, wrote and composed three songs for the record. He also mentioned that this is the first time CL had done either and is a “positive sign for CL to produce her own solo album,” which the K-pop star first mentioned to Billboard last year. He said CL’s solo album is also expected to be released by the end of 2014.

The girl group will perform the new material for the first time at its March 1 Seoul tour date, which kicks off its new tour. So far, only dates in Asia have been revealed.

“Crush” will drop in its entirety on Feb. 24, along with a teaser video of the yet-to-be-announced single.

The video for that new single is expected on Feb. 28 and was described by Yang as having “the largest budget for the group” and required a “high level of computer graphic work” — all of which is quite impressive considering 2NE1’s past music videos appear to have huge budgets. (See “I Am the Best” below)

K-pop fans may also recognize this is the same day Girls’ Generation drops its new album. With both groups boasting two humongous fanbases both domestic and international, this will be a chart battle that spans multiple Billboard charts. Since their last album release, 2NE1’s domestic fanbase has grown considerably after a few Stateside promotions from arena shows to appearing on primetime TV, making them very possible contenders to make their first appearance on the Billboard 200.
