Vogue Girl(AKA V.G.): 2NE1’s photo shoot concept this time of an inner feminine beauty had sprung up from a comment by Sandara saying, “Now I also want to do a pretty photo shoot,” did you know that?
Sandara: I said that comment because until now, we’ve only done photo shoots with a very fierce image. On stage, there’s no chance of wearing fluttery clothing, so at least in a photo shoot I wanted to try this transformation.
VG: You had been very dormant in your activities for a while, but I was hearing news about Sandara every day. Since your me2day updates were so frequent.
S: me2day has been one of my biggest interests lately! When I find something fun, the first thought I get is that I should take a picture of it and post it up, and when I don’t find anything for a few days, I wonder if I should just make some scene to post, haha. It’s an addiction.
VG: Aren’t you a bit disappointed, since every update becomes a news article? Some reporters seem to just sit around waiting for ‘Reporter Sandara Park’’s news report.
S: Often I do get surprised. Sometimes, even though it’s nothing much, articles that bloat up the situation come up. Since I had started this to be able to interact with my fans, I try to keep that initial thought as most important. When I am on me2day, I feel like I’m communicating with someone so I like it. It’s like sending text messages back and forth with friends.
VG: Has Me2day become more comfortable than friends now?
S: Rather than that, it’s more because I don’t have many friends to send text messages to. I moved to the Philippines in elementary school, so in Korea, aside from company friends, I don’t have any friends. These days I had been very lonely, but I gained much encouragement from Me2day. If early in the morning, I can’t sleep and post something on Me2day, and a reply comes up, I think, ‘I’m not alone.’
VG: How do you relieve your stress? Aside from Me2day.
S: The only people I can talk to about everything in my mind are my members, so we talk a lot about every little thing, and often even cry.
VG: When your stress level reaches its limit, wouldn’t even quirky Sandara become snappy?
S: I become more quiet. It’s so that I don’t clash with another person. I’ve never fought with a person before. I don’t want to fight, and I’m not even good at fighting. When someone picks a fight with me, I have never thrown a counter-attack.
VG: A lonely and delicate girl, It would be nice if there was a guy to protect this kind of Sandara! I hear your ideal is a tough younger man.
S: I like a person who is cute and at the same time be able to hold me firmly.
VG: Why do you like younger men, though?
S: My way of thinking is very young. Ever since I was young, I mostly played with my younger siblings, so even now I am more comfortable with younger friends. When I meet people in their teens, it feels like they’re all my friends, but when I actually meet people of the same age as me, it becomes awkward. I think I stopped maturing mentally since I started entertainment activities when I was 19 years old.
VG: What do you do when you don’t have practice?
S: I just stay in the dorms by myself. Bom and CL is usually at the headquarters working on music, and Minji goes to watch movies or goes shopping, and goes out often. She’s still in an energetic age(laughs). When I’m in the dorms I just lie down staring into space, or do the laundry, or watch a drama online. These days, I’m totally into ‘King of Baking, Kim Tak Goo.’
VG: How are each member’s rooms decorated?
S: CL’s room is so full of clothes or accessories and other props that it’s almost hard to walk around. But there are always fun things in there so I often go just to look around. Bom’s room has a lot of make up and health products. haha. Minji’s room has a lot of books and toys. These days, I think she’s been collecting Gundam products? On the walls, she’s put up a bunch of pictures of herself. Compared to those, my room is just a bed and a closet, so it’s very meager.
VG: A while ago in <Vogue Girl>, we had an MBLAQ interview, and Thunder stated that just the existence of his older sister Sandara made him feel very reassured.
S: Actually, the debut date between MBLAQ only has a 6-month difference, so there wasn’t much I was able to advise on(laughs). But since I’m the older sister, and our age difference is 6 years, I do try to take care of him. Our activity period never overlapped, so it was hard to meet each other at broadcast stations, but I hope to meet him more often from now on. I miss him, my baby. Haha.
VG: Idol groups these days have such a variety of activities, but it’s hard to see 2NE1.
S: I want to do them, but I’m very timid. Last year when I went out on ‘Family Outing’ all I did was quietly watch them. Rather than that, I want to go out as a guest on talk shows like ‘Come to Play’ or ‘Winning Streak’. Not alone, but all four of us together. I think our biggest problem is that we are fun if it is the four of us together. If we each were to go out by ourselves, don’t you think we’d be completely edited out? Haha.
VG: From the members, who do you think will do well in variety shows?
S: Bom! If Bom were to go out in ‘Family Outing’ or ‘We Got Married’ I’m sure it would be a huge success. She is so much more outgoing than me, and really at a different level than me. The image of her you saw in ‘2NE1 TV’ is really truly Bom’s actual personality. She’ll probably start so many trendy sayings, too! Haha.

The brightest stars in the industry normally think they are alone and unwanted. Dara feels the same way. Maybe she doesn’t realize that everyone has his or her eyes on her. Let’s admit it she is the most popular member of 2ne1. Why? Because she is interesting. She has stories to tell. Among the members she is the only one who had more solo activities after debut. She has collaborated with more artists in their activities; these were Gummy, GD, YB, TOP, Lee Min Ho…this does not include an episode of a drama. Among the members she was the first who made solo activities with Kiss. As for sining and dancing talents are concerned, she is not as good as the rest of the group but there is something in her that attracts the spotlight. I would not be surprised if Se7en, who is a good friend of hers, will be interested in collaborating with her. She can actually boost anyone’s career. This was probably the reason why she played the part in Taeyang’s MV in I NEED A GIRL. GD wanted her in his album and activities for the hype. I’m glad she is talking her problems to her members and eventually they cry with each other. I do not want her to keep all the problems to herself, and just be shy and silent forever. I want her to be outspoken and outgoing coz it seems that eyes of her’s explained alot of things.And that girl Dara experiences alot, from the career of her Phil world to the divorce of her parents to the sickness of her parents to the sudden move to korea to the almost-not-accepted YG 2ne1 member to the countless detractors who has high expectations on her. I know she love to act nonchalanat and do not mind these things BUT I do not want her to suppress these turmoil feelings. I love her that she is outspoken and talkative with her members, and that’s enough for me for now. She expresses herself!
I’m really worried for silent people because Koreans has high tendency of suicide too. For keeping all the problems to themselves. But of course I have strong leap of faith to Dara. I can really see despite her fragile figure she is really strong and a tough (TOP) woman.

Agree. It crossed my mind as well. At first i thought she is sad due to personal reason. But whe i look into her social and family life it give her constant smile and laugter. So i’m sure it’s something other than personal reason. Good analysis kmom ^_^
I think her being lonely has to do with her current status and not on her personal life coz i believe she receives a lot of love from her family and friends and probably from a special someone…. What i mean is because being Sandara Park is not an easy life to live. She lives under a lot of restrictions to a point that you become suffocated with the Do’s and Dont’s . A lot of A-list celebs and idols have said before that they feel lonely at times also. Unlike in the Phils(despite her status) she had more freedom to play around and have fun with friends. But in Korea , it’s different.. Idols are placed on high radar and everything they do are being scrutinized and people dissect their lives under the microscope….one false move can become a scandal that ruins everything you have worked for so many years. She probably just miss her free, funfilled and high-spirited life she once owned back in the Phil. I’m positive she is very much happy and contented with her life right now…who wouldn’t be? sorry for the long post.

Hello! I love the Vogue interview because it is very insightful and spot on. It tackled the most prominent and some sensitive issues about the 2NE1 girls. In it I was reacquainted why I loved the group as a whole. It’s not just the music, every member brings to the table something different, unique but real. Which is something every girl is. In their answers, we find out that they aren’t all like what they seem to be. It is them but not ALL of what they are.
I know this is a Dara site but if it is possible can the admin post the interview with the other members. I would like the Dara fans to see how this team works as a whole and why Dara is very lucky to have 2NE1 and how 2NE1 is so lucky to have her.
If you can see, Dara is the one that features every member in her interview. She talks about the others and is an unconscious PR for the people around her.

cute = usually someone who arouses the mother instinct in women. Synonymous to adorable and lovable
strong = someone with a powerful character. One that leads and protects those around him. He can be string physically but not necessarily. More important is he has the means, skills.capabilities and guts to hold on someone like Dara and keep her safe and loved.

That would be Dae’s. If you watch the Sketch book with subs. Dae’s room is the most bare. Tae’s is decorated by ha mother so it has a homey feeling with lots of limited edition CD’s.
This interview tells me only one thing. Dara is very articulate. She’s so spontaneous and her answers are very intellegent. I love that.

i love dara in this interview because as always, she’s so unpretentious, doesn’t use flowery words and just state things as they are. I feel a bit sad though everytime I come across her interviews, she always seems so lonely.
Yeah, I felt that too… she could have said more… but she opt not to. I hope in time she recovers or get over whatever it is that’s making her sad.
yep… it seems like she’s holding back.
ohhh and i gotta say, Dara’s really good at promotions. I noticed that a quarter of her interview’s all about 2NE1 and her brother. Love love love Dara <333

I am sure that tons of celebrities and non celebrities want to be friends with her but she seems to have chosen to only socialize within the company. But I have the impression that she has a lot of genuine friends within the company and I think she is satisfied with that. What I think she misses the most is having a “barkada” to regularly hang out with. She had that in the Philippines even when she was a celebrity. Her spending a lot of time at home is understandable because it was probably what she got used to when living in the Philippines plus she had very protective parents.
Aww I think Dara should be in a veriaty show with other artists so that she can make more friends.

It always makes me sad that she doesn’t have much friends outside of YG Family. It’s hard enough that she’s so shy, it would be nice for her if she did have someone she got friendly with.
I think this was one of the reasons I wanted her to get into variety or hosting as well. Aside from really wanting to see her in more of these settings because she’s actually a good host, and I have a feeling given time, seriously entertaining in a variety show, I think it would give her time to make friends with people or even help her with her chronic awkward shyness.
