Article: Billboard – 2NE1 Gets Sentimental in “Missing You”

2ne1_missingyou_kpop_650-430

The K-pop quartet return at their most vulnerable yet.

2NE1 has caught the attention of both the East and West with forward-thinking music, fierce fashion and carefree attitudes. But the K-pop girl group is showcasing their most vulnerable and mature side yet in new single “Missing You,” which brings surprises in the song composition and video.

Opening with subtle bass and guitar plucks — recalling productions by The xx — the first verse adds in bubble pops, hip-hop shouting and woozy harmonies over a swelling electro-pop production. But soon, soft piano chords get thrown into the mix, growing louder with each measure before listeners find themselves at an acoustic chorus featuring piano pounding and guitar strumming, letting the vocals shine.

2NE1’s singles from earlier this year “Falling in Love” and “Do You Love Me?” — both of which found big success on the K-Pop Hot 100, peaking at No. 2 — were crafted around catchy, repetitive choruses. But “Missing You” is just a striking, perhaps more so, even without a simple hook.

The music video also shows a softer different side for the group — particularly leader CL. Dressed in fashionable, at times witch-like, winter gear, the girls spend most of the video on the verge of tears singing the heartbreakingly bitter lyrics. The video’s talking point is undoubtedly when CL goes nude for a daring naked scene during the second chorus. The rapper/singer wistfully sits in a room of deteriorating cement, covering herself with only her arms and legs.

Look out for haters to call out the comparisons from Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball,” but CL does sad and naked with way more class.

It’s not the first time 2NE1’s done sad for a single (see “Lonely” and “Ugly”), but it’s certainly a standout moment as the music, vocals and visuals are convincing of the group’s maturation.

In February, CL first told Billboard about the track, saying, “I was really connected to that song because I was missing my fans and the stage. I love that song. I know people will love it.” Look out for it to make a splash on the K-Pop Hot 100 this week or next.

Despite 2NE1’s label initially promising a single every month until an October album release, 2NE1 fell silent after the August release of “Do You Love Me?” But apparently moving right along, the group has revealed plans for a new world tour in 2014, announcing the Asia stops today. Member Dara added, “Wherever Blackjack fans are is a reason for us to visit. So, foreign promoters, give us a call.”

2NE1 was and still is the only K-pop girl group to hold an arena tour in the U.S. after two concerts in summer of 2012.

Article: 2NE1’s ‘Missing You’ Ranks No.1 Within 8 Hours of Release

2NE1 is back with another hit song Missing You.

2NE1’s Missing You was able to take the first spot in 9 major music charts, namely MelOn, Mnet, Bugs, Olleh, Cyworld, Daum, Naver, Genie and Monkey3, in just 8 hours since the track was released on November 20.

Missing You is the third single album the group released this year, following Falling in Love and Do you Love Me. This newest track is a wintery ballad that harmonizes the members’ vocals with low bass beats and piano sound in a rock ballad style.

The music video that was released with the track also shows the members beautifully against the snowy background, as they sing out the feelings of sadness and loneliness following a breakup.

The four members put on their best acting skills, while CL, who has been known as the ‘tough one’ in the group shows a different side of her by going nude and showing her tattoos in a bathtub.

YG Entertainment commented, “CL, who is always full of confidence, challenged herself to go nude for this music video. Her nude shot is aimed to show not sexiness, but the internal beauty and loneliness a woman feels. It’s almost like a picture of a famous artwork.”

2NE1 will begin performing Missing You at 2013 Mnet Asian Music Awards, and plans to perform globally around China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and Japan to meet with fans starting in March 2014.

Official/YG-Life: 2NE1’s “Comeback D-1”, “Three” Breakaways They Will Show

컴백-D-1-2NE1-이들이-선보일

[OSEN=황미현 기자] Girl band 2NE1 is releasing new song “MISSING YOU” at midnight on the 21 this month, which is expected to present breakaways that live up to fans’ expectations.

In the summer this year, 2NE1 released “FALLING IN LOVE” and “DO YOU LOVE ME”, and with the release of “MISSING YOU” now, they will have presented three songs in this year only.

2NE1’s new songs have always topped music charts with different concepts and styles, and the last song this year “MISSING YOU” will show yet another breakaway.

#1. CL’s Revealing Performance… “Extremely Bold Action”

CL is revealing her body in the music video of “MISSING YOU”, a sorrowful and emotional song. So far, 2NE1 has pursued bubbly and unique personality, which is far from sex appeal. The only sex appeal code they showed was the choreography for “I LOVE YOU” that was released last year, which included some wave.

So, CL’s bold nude performance will create a bigger sensation, since it is the first-ever case where 2NE1 tries such a performance, breaking away from their past style of creating charismatic feel even with revealing outfits. While people are paying keen attention to the news of CL’s undressed performance, the focus of the attention is put on how 2NE1 will appeal to their fans by such a performance.

Regarding this, an YG Entertainment insider explained, “The nude scene shows a mystical atmosphere like an art photography rather than sex appeal, and external beauty and internal sorrow of a woman are mixed in the scene.”

#2. “Tear-jerking” Ballad

The genre of 2NE1’s new song “MISSING YOU” is emotional ballad. As a hip-hop girl group, 2NE1 has usually staged strong and powerful performances. But now, they are presenting a breakaway from their past style, by opting for a tear-jerking ballad for their comeback.

2NE1 has already made a big hit with “LONELY” which was released in 2011. “LONELY” is also a song that expresses the heart of a woman who is hurt from relationship. The song was very much loved, comforting hearts of many women by the harmony between the four members’ colorful tones.

As such, whether “MISSING YOU” will make such a big hit as “LONELY” is drawing much attention. According to YG’s head Yang Hyun Suk, 2NE1 surprised recording staff, crying buckets while recording the song. 2NE1 also suggested that the song will be a very sorrowful one, saying in “Ssangbak TV” released on the 18, “We used whole box of tissues while singing the song.”

#3. Kicking off World Tour upon Release… First-Ever Ultra-Speed for a Girl Band

2NE1 will meet their fans around the world in next March, after releasing “MISSING YOU” this month. In “Ssangbak TV”, Bom said, “Starting from Seoul in March, 2014, we go to see our fans around the world, in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, and Japan.”, suggesting the beginning of a world tour.

2NE1, who successfully held concerts in 10 cities in seven countries including USA and European countries last year for the first time for Korean girl bands, is entering into another epic journey of world tour in next March, after only two years of break. This proves 2NE1’s world-wide popularity, since it is the first-ever case where a Korean girl band holds world tour concert again in two years.

While many people are expressing high expectations for 2NE1’s new performances in next year’s world tour, after building up further stage experience with three songs released this year, an YG insider said, “Since they have the experience of world tour, they will present an improved way of how to confidently and naturally communicate with the audience.”

Ssangpark (2NE1’s Park Bom and Sandara Park) leave fans curious with the sudden notice of their ‘’emergency press conference’’ on the 18th.

On the 15th, YG Entertainment’s official blog uploaded the picture above in which is written ‘’Emergency Press Conference, 11/18/2013, Monday 9.00AM/ Location: YG’s Cafeteria’’.

In the picture there’s two microphones placed with the ‘’SsangPark’’ logo getting many curious as to why 2NE1’s Park Bom and Sandara Park will have an press conference out of the blue.

2NE1 recently confirmed their ‘’MAMA 2013 in Hong Kong’’ attendance plus there has been rumors going around whether 2NE1 will have a comeback soon and perhaps might show something new on the ‘’Mnet Asian Music Awards 2013’’. With this notice of their press conference, it has sparked many interest and expectations.

This year 2NE1’s leader CL started 2NE1’s promotions with her solo track ‘’The Baddest Female’’ followed by the group’s return with ‘’Falling In Love’’ and ‘’Do You Love Me.’’ Along with that 2NE1’s oldest Park Bom and Sandara Park formed the duo ‘’SsangPark’’ that would do promotional stuff for the group and the rest of YG family.

YG-Life Exclusive: 2NE1’s Sudden Decision to Appear on MAMA + November 22: Release New Song?

단독-2NE1-신곡-깜짝-발표하나..22일-MAMA-출연-긴급결정

[OSEN=이혜린 기자] 2NE1, who made an announcement on relay-release of new songs in the second half of the year, began to build curiosity amongst the fans as there was no further news on the topic. However, their latest move hints that perhaps the girl group is ready to unveil another song.

It was confirmed on Nov 12 that 2NE1 suddenly decided to make an appearance on Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA), which was originally excluded from their schedule. Their participation in MAMA before announcing any further plans for their end-of-year song promotion is arousing many to think that they are perhaps showcasing another comeback stage at the ceremony.

The suspicion comes at an interesting time as fans have recently been leaving comments on the fan website assuming that the girl group has already filmed the music video for the new song. Taking into account the time taken for the completion of music video, 2NE1’s new song will be releasing a new song next week, and will have their comeback performances immediately following it on Nov 22 at MAMA.

2NE1’s agency YG Entertainment is known for leaving comeback news tightly hidden under veil until right before the comebacks, so 2NE1’s sudden comeback is definitely an option that would not be left out by the entertainment agency.

2NE1, in their first two songs ‘Falling in Love’ and ‘Do You Love Me’, drew much attention by steering away from their original colors and showcasing bubbly, cute and charming selves. Thus all eyes are on 2NE1 to see how they would distinguish themselves from other girl groups, while also breaking away from the usual themes to come up with something completely new and fresh.

As the idiosyncratic 2NE1 successfully wrapped up their World Tour, which was a first for a South Korean girl group, their new song release are expected to attract much attention from the international fans as well.

MAMA, the largest music festival in Asia, will be held in Hong Kong’s Asia World Expo Arena on No 22.

News: 2NE1 Discusses Upcoming Album Release, Comeback: ‘Now Is The Time To Take Everything To Another Level’

2NE1 Discusses Upcoming Album Release, Comeback: ‘Now Is The Time To Take Everything To Another Level’

118988-in-an-interview-published-with-dazed-digital-published-on-friday-the-f

It has been three years since 2NE1 has released a full-length album, and for the four members, as Tom Petty sings, “the waiting is the hardest part.”

In an interview published with Dazed Digital published on Friday, the four members of 2NE1, CL, Bom, Dara and Minzy, explained what has taken them so long to release their new album and what fans can expect from them when they do.

“After releasing “I Love You,” we immediately went on a world tour to meet with our foreign fans which pushed back our album plans,Dara explained.

The group has released new music in bits and bobs, such as their single “Falling In Love” which they premiered on the South Korean TV music program “Inkigayo,” in an appearance that they recall preparing vigorously for.

“As much as our fans have been waiting for us, we also couldn’t wait to release new material,” Minzy said.

Rapper and bandleader CL recalled all the hard work.

“We made an active decision to prepare for that comeback like it was our debut,” CL said.

“We wanted to work as hard as possible and prepare as much as we can. We worked on a lot of material and ‘Falling In Love’ came out at a time that fit the summer season.”

Although the band members refused to offer specifics on when their new album would be out or what it would sound like, CL promised it would be a departure from the girl group’s earlier material.

“It’s hard to reveal all of the exact differences since we have yet to release the material,” she said.

“However, I can assure you that you will see the fierce 2NE1 that you have seen on our past releases but also a more developed and evolved 2NE1. We’ve definitely evolved on this album and can’t wait for everyone to hear it.”

One of the few details CL did offer was that 2NE1, known for their badass image, is getting in touch with their softer side on the new album, a move she says the members are totally comfortable with.

“It wasn’t an attempt to break away from that fierce concept we are known for [on the new album] it was something that came about naturally,” she said.

“We recorded fun tracks and decided to show a different side of ourselves that was more pleasant. We did have to adjust a bit to this performance aspect and even asked ourselves, ‘are we really allowed to smile like this on stage?'”

“I believe now is the time to take everything to another level,” she added.

Article: Dazed Digital – “2NE1’s Korean Journey”

2NE1’S KOREAN JOURNEY

KPOP’s baddest and best girl group touch down to speak about I LOVE YOU and their fans

1056446

2NE1 do not play by the rules. Since debuting in 2009 they’ve become one of K-pop’s most recognisable and internationally celebrated groups. Despite being put together with the same lazer-eyed accuracy that marks K-Pop’s rigorous selection process, the word ‘manufactured’ feels misused when referring to Bom, Dara, Minzy and CL.

The notion of ‘girl power’ might be old school to the West but until 2NE1 stamped their studded heels down, female K-Pop acts felt more like candy coloured day trip for little girls or a skimpily clad, ajhussi pleasure fest. Experimental visuals sit alongside big, bold concepts that allow 2NE1 to demonstrate both strength and femininity, while in CL they have a leader both outspoken and encouraged to be, a rarity for the South Korean entertainment industry. Their first, and so far only, full studio album was in 2010 and despite repeated hints and rumours of an October 2013 release, 2NE1 are keeping everyone hanging.

This fleeting London visit saw their first ever live UK performance; another tease for their fandom, the Blackjacks, who took to Twitter on November 4th to voice their impatience for new material. It might have trended worldwide but guess what, the official line is as vague as ever, no matter how hard you ask. And really, we did ask.

Dazed Digital: Fans have been waiting a very long time for your return but it keeps getting pushed back. What, besides CL’s solo, have you all been doing and why has this new album taken so long to come out?

Dara: After releasing “I LOVE YOU” we immediately went on a world tour to meet with our foreign fans which pushed back our album plans.

Bom: Before our (summer) comeback we continuously recorded songs, maintained our health by working out and decided what kind of items and concepts we should wear and do for our new single. We were working hard to prepare for the album.

Article: Girls’ Generation Leaves a Complimentary Message for 2NE1

2NE1-Girls-Generation_1383062618_af_org

On October 29, Girls’ Generation appeared at the special 1,000th stage of KBS‘s ‘Open Concert‘ and participated in the press conference.

Seohyun and Tiffany said, “Thank you very much for letting Girls’ Generation stand on stage with the sunbaes and hoobaes that we admire.  Like ‘Open Concert,’ which had its 1,000th stage, Girls’ Generation hopes to become singers who can receive love for a long, long time.

The announcer of the event asked, “Who are the hoobae singers that are here?” and Girls’ Generation named 2NE1.

Article: Former Miss Korea Honey Lee Almost Became a Member of 2NE1?

Actress Honey Lee (also a former Miss Korea) appeared on the October 16 installment of SBS‘s ‘One Night of TV Entertainment‘ to answer questions in a speed interview.

Surprisingly, one question asked, “Honey Lee almost became a member of 2NE1?

She neither confirmed nor denied this claim.  However, she did explain that she really loved to dance and sing since middle school so she went to a YG audition and became a trainee for about a year.  Amusingly, she said she would go to college to play the traditional instrument gayageum very modestly and then would transform when she got to the dance practice room.

Perhaps if she had stayed as a trainee for a longer time, she might have indeed made the group.
