From YG: NEWS ABOUT ‘2NE1’
A very belated new year’s greetings…
Hello everyone, this is YANG HYUN SUK.
I get an opportunity to send you greetings in writing about once a year.
And as this is a rare chance, I would like to share my thoughts with you
on some of the things that had my mind reeling, while also delivering news on YG artists in 2014.
2014 is expected to be a more important year than any other ones for YG.
To put it bluntly, 2014 is like a year of big gamble that will determine the next 10 years of this entertainment agency.
Not only is it a year where YG’s main artists PSY, BIGBANG and 2NE1 are releasing albums for the first time in a while,
but it is also a year where sensational four new groups of YG will be unveiled, after a very long period of preparing and training.
It takes YG several years to produce an album for the existing artists, and they’re unveiling four new groups? Four?
I agree that this is not an easy task, so I choose to use the word “challenge.”
And since it’s also risky, I say this is a “gamble” for us, but we are determined to achieve the goal.
And the only way to reach the goal is to produce good music.
This calls for maximizing the talents of YG artists with composing and writing skills, as well as more than ten YG composers.
In order to do this, we expanded our music studio, recording and dance training rooms for the last few months,
while also arranging meetings with foreign music producers for active collaboration.
Now to the main news. I would like to tell you all the details of what is happening to the YG artists.
Since there’s a lot to say, I would like to make it into a brief Q&A form, keeping in mind some questions you would have.

Of the 2014 list, which YG artist is the first in line?
Is it because we had fans waiting for too long? Just hearing the name 2NE1 makes our hearts throb.
People who are not familiar with the details might think I am overreacting when I say this,
but I do so because 2NE1, who made a debut 6 years ago, will be unveiling a full album with many new songs for the very first time.
To be more precise, 2NE1 released their first album 4 years ago in September 2010,
but it was an album with just a few new songs added to the previous single soundtracks.
So this is the first time in 6 years for the divas to be unveiling an album full of new songs.
When is 2NE1’s 2nd full album release?
2NE1’s second full album will be released at 12 am on February 24th on online music sites.
The album will go on sale offline the following week.
The music video (MV) of 2NE1’s latest title song, which is an MV with the largest budget for the group,
requires high level of computer graphic work.
So a teaser video will be unveiled first on February 24th, and then a completed version on February 28th.
2NE1’s new songs will be presented for the first time at their Seoul concert on March 1st and 2nd.
What should we be looking for in this album?
The part that you have to really look at in 2NE1’s new album is that CL, the leader,
included whopping 3 songs that are self-written and composed for the first time in her life.
You are the ones to judge the quality of her music.
But when I first listened to CL’s very own song, the one word that described my feeling was “surprised.”
Which is only natural, because I have known CL for 8 years and I never expected her to produce a song like this,
and the song was too good to be her very first one.
CL is one of the very few South Korean female rappers who is known for her charismatic performance and outstanding fashion sense,
and I am sure creating her own song will act as a foothold for CL to take another leap forward.
I can tell that this will bring big changes to 2NE1’s future music, while also lighting a positive sign for CL to produce her own solo album.
More details of this album?
2NE1’s 2nd full album is titled “CRUSH,” which means “break” or “destroy,” but could also be used when saying “having a crush on someone.”
Since this is the first album in many years, rather than focusing on the structural aspect of the album,
we put more thoughts and effort into choosing every single soundtrack, as though every one of them is the title song.
2NE1’s 2nd album will be comprised of a total of 10 songs.
Apart from one track that was released in Japan, and is translated back into Korean, the rest will be new songs.
What are the plans for 2NE1 this year?
I also thought it unfortunate that 2NE1 had only a few opportunities to carry out music activities in the past,
so I would like to make a promise here that 2NE1 will continuously perform their new songs throughout the year in 2014.
The long preparation time means there are many songs besides the ones included in the 2nd full album,
so other members’ solo songs initially planned to be included in the latest album are currently put aside for the next album.
And as we expect CL to be more actively writing and composing,
there should be no problem in releasing 2NE1’s next album and CL’s new solo album before this year ends.
PS: Correction on 2NE1’s After Party of their concert.
I received a brief report that 2NE1’s members and the staffers want to hold an after party at a club after their concert.
The published announcement, however, was different to what I had in mind, so I would like to make some corrections on the issue.
2NE1’s after party will be held only once after the concert finishes on March 2nd,
and we announced that ticket holders of at least one of the 2-day Seoul concerts will be able to enter free of charge.
However, we would like to note in advance that the club party will be held in a first-come-first-served basis,
thus if the number exceeds the maximum, guests may be required to wait or may not be allowed to enter.
As this club party is organized in celebration of 2NE1’s second World Tour and their 2nd full album in many years,
we hope that this event will provide 2NE1 and the fans with an unforgettable memory.
Further details on 2NE1’s title song and the track lists will be announced in separate notices in the near future.

No one’s arguing here though. People are just expressing their opinions. And not all daralings are blackjack. Some of them like 2ne1 because of dara so you really can’t stop them if they want to express their disappointment over such things. And just because their saying they’re disappointed doesn’t mean they will not support 2ne1. I’m only a dara fan and I don’t find anything wrong in CL composing three songs.
Dara still staying in 2ne1 means she loves the group and she knows her worth (she knows herself and her abilities more than us)!!! Let us support what Dara loves — 2ne1. And Dara not having projects (dramas, movies)… She chose 2ne1 as her FIRST priority. I guess she is also picky on the roles — I mean, she is thinking and choosing very well the “project/s” she’ll be involved just like T.O.P. The right project will come. We’ll be anticipating that. For now, let us all support 2ne1 !!!!!!!!!

I can already feel those keyboard warriors gearing up for an all out fanwar when 2ne1 and snsd both drop their albums on the same day but one doesn’t need to venture far from home for that battle especially if you read the 2ne1 MV comment section….sadly a lot of blackjacks do a decent job of tearing up our fandom without anyone else’s help. TT I hope we can put our differences and biases aside and wholly support our girls. 2ne1 Hwaiting!!

As a fan of DARA it is really important for me of her fair part. I do not know why. I felt bad also some comments here is like Dara’s part is just OK or never mind,mostly I observed and asking is she’s a member or a back up singer? That’s why we do comment to hear our side. I am not a Fan of 2ne1 truly but I am a fan of Sandara Park and because she’s a member so I like then 2ne1 which is next Dara of course. We are loving to see her anywhere specially good news like “fan guy”and we accept the bad news either. For me I do care HER PART that is important for me.
i hate reading some comments in here,.. not personal but felt bad because they’re making issues about the album,. i mean, if CL composed the songs, then why bother?., it’s 2ne1 still,. some were fighting because of the attention given to her,. aigoo,. if it’s for the good of the group then we don’t need to doubt about each others role and capability. instead, we should trust them holistically, not conditionally but unconditionally,. let’s not fight over who gets more part,. let’s unite,. some fans were one in supporting their group,. but some blackjacks here had a lot of complaints over the song distribution and so on,. oh my,. pls. let’s just love and support them wholeheartedly without bashing any of the members,. pls. besides, these members love each other,. it’s just that they were given and assigned to a specific task for them to be more great and more success not only for 2ne1 but for the whole YG family. pls. make some peace ya’ll
well this is a good news.. finally one of the members tried composing.. but Im a bit disappointed about putting 3 composed solo songs of CL in the album.. the fact that its a 2NE1 ALBUM, not CL solo ALBUM.. gosh! how I wish they recorded the song as a group not only CL if its really for the good of the group..
I would’ve thought that if u support Dara then u support all her endeavours, regardless of your own views about things out of her control… Maybe it’s easier for me to say this as I’m not a Daraling but a Blackjack who loves all the members.
phenomenal star, excellent question…I’ve asked that myself too. I know I lost it when missing you came out and did not buy it because of obvious 2line crap she was given. It was a eye opener and a sad/angry time for me because I finally realized that she is being used as the pretty face, the promoter for the group and that’s it. Since then, I’ve watched her look happy, and tirelessly support the group. Although 2NE1 is my favorite group and why I came to KPOP, as a Daraling, my first concern is Dara’s happiness. If she is happy, so be it. If she pulls a “Gummy” (leaves YG one day for a company who takes better care of her) I will support.

I have a question, if some of us are in agreement that Dara is being treated unfairly in 2NE1, does supporting the group mean we accept this treatment?
I want to put my support with 2NE1 and as long as Dara is happy with what they give her, I will be happy for her too. YG words sound good but we will have to see if he follows through. As Daralings, we always want the best for Dara. so we shall see.

I am excited but knowing YG being a troll, I won’t expect too much.
CL composing is actually good news for the group since they won’t be heavily dependent on Teddy anymore. CL knows her teammates so I think the result will be good and as we know YGE leaders take their roles seriously and feel responsible for the group. Let us not forget that YGE is also eyeing the K-Drama industry and I think Dara will get to act soon. I’m actually much more concerned for Minzy and Bom, unless they compose their own songs too it would take some time before they’ll be able to release their solo albums. Dramas, films, a single release every now and then, Dara will be just fine. Have faith, guys! 🙂
I also heard about that news of YGE investing on Kdramas, is it really real? OMO I’m so excited. According to what I heard they’re doing this in preparation of BigBang’s going to army. They will shoot drama and those will be shown while they’re away so fans won’t forget them. I hope it’s true! That means we can see a future with Dara and Top in one drama (crossing my fingers! until there’s confirmation. we all know how troll YG is)
CL composing is actually great cause we dont have to wait that long (wait for teddy) for their songs. I’m sure the other girls have a choice if they wanted to compose to or not and its not that easy to compose. Now that it’s CL composing maybe she will give more parts to dara than previously with teddy. We all know Cl loves dara, Chaedara! Maybe in the future minzy will compose a song too cause i remember dara mentioned that minzy is good at writing. I hope blackjacks will unite, now more than ever, even thought I’m dara biased too if we dont support the whole group then we wont have a chance with snsd’s fanbase. as long as i want to complain regarding CL’s over promotion, well,. I’d like to take a deep breath and try to understand every happenings and strategies they had,. though my biased is DARA unnie, I want to support CL too,. patients is a virtue,. I know DARA unnie can decide on her own too, so let’s trust her at this moment. Lets just welcome any possibilities or disappointments for us not to expect too much. let’s just love 2ne1 unconditionally. fighting!
4 New Artists: Team B, Akdong Musician and new girl group. I don’t know who the 4th one probably the Winner for they haven’t release their singles yet. I believe Team B and the new girl group will be release later this year, then Winner and Akdong Musician would be earlier this year.
Call me bias or anything but I only listen to 2ne1’s music because of Dara. I don’t even like any other KPop not even Bigbang, but I respect them.

IMO, when it comes to composing and writing lyrics, I think Bom is should do than CL. I think among the four Bom can play multiple instruments with no use of synthesizers and all. Oh well I’m not a rap fan so I don’t appreciate it that much.
My criticism are purely based on my personal opinion, no pun intended.
My opinion is if DARA will switch agency i think her talent will not going to put to waste….And she will be more popular… If Top can do both as a singer and an actor i think Dara can do the same too.. I don’t get it why after doing the Iljimae nothing follows… I don’t believe that YG didn’t received any offers for Dara to act in a drama.. Dara always vocal of her desire to act. I know someone behind it why until now she still not doing any Drama.
Finally. Im so excited! Woot! And the competition is fierce! 2ne1 vs. Snsd! Say whhuut?! Hahaha! I love both groups, so no hate! It just gets me more excited because kpop has been boring for a little while now..so..anyway..2ne1 fighting! Blackjacks, fighting! We’ve been waiting for this!
That’s what I felt too. I want to say that they are like using Dara bcause she is famous not only in Philippines and Korea also other’s country. OOOhhh.. When she can be her own? even in group it’s very obvious her part is not fair.
I don’t know why I feel upset, I love all the girls but I’m also a Daraling. However, it really feels like this album is another effort of YG to promote CL even further, I wish he starts giving the same opportunities to the other girls. I am looking forward to the album but also dreading it since I’m afraid Dara will have the least amount of lines again. Worst, the songs will have CL’s stamp all over it that might not really suit Dara’s. Sigh….
I wish YG give Dara’s fair part of this plan. I love her since from the start till now that specially she improving and matured 🙂
