Why the Rumors on 2NE1 Break-Up? Anticipation Up for Comeback
[TV리포트=김예나 기자] Rumors for the break-up of 2NE1 have surfaced. This is the second time since October last year.
As the rumor resurfaced this afternoon, YG Entertainment commented on June 6 that there is no truth to it. The comment was made one hour after the rumor-related article was published.
YG Entertainment initially responded to this by saying that “the rumor is not even worth responding to,” avoiding an immediate and direct comment. This made many believe that the rumor was true.
After much hype, YANG HYUN SUK and personnel from YG Entertainment strongly rejected it by saying, “There is absolutely no truth to the breakup rumors of 2NE1. This is not even worth responding to. We don’t understand where this is coming from. 2NE1 will be back with a new album this year.”
This is the second time following the one in October. The rumors were triggered by MINZY deleting her social media accounts and also making an account private. She changed her account name from “minzy21mz” to “minzy_mz”, deleting the “21,” and also changing her introduction to “official 2NE1 minzy” to “official minzy”, again eliminating “2NE1.” When the rumors spread quickly, MINZY changed her Instagram setting from public to private, and retrieved her original ID.
YANG back then commented, “The breakup is not true. BOM is still reflecting on her action and other members are preparing some solos. 2NE1 will come back with a good album.”
But the rumor surfaced once again in June. This time the rumor apparently spread from one personnel from YG. CL goes to the US, DARA will be doing some acting, while MINZY and BOM have no plans yet.
It has already been a year since 2NE1 halted all activities in South Korea. BOM was victimized for the suspicion of drug smuggling last June and she is still reflecting on her action. 2NE1 are carrying out musical activities overseas, and only a limited number of members appear on official stage.
The rumors seem to have resurfaced as there was no imminent comeback for the four divas. They also seem to have been backed up by the fact that 2NE1 did not appear in the recent party of YANG’s launch of the restaurant the “3rd Street Butchers.”
However, YG stepped up once again to reject the rumors. They even hinted a comeback this year. With the rumors resurfacing, it in turn heightens the expectations for the divas’ comeback.

thank u soooo much YGK+CEO,for gaving my idol dara projects…..more power to u.I HOPE YG REALIZE THAT 2NE1 SPECIALY DARA IS THE BEST OF THEM GROUP.
because of most GZBs attacking Dara, I’m disliking CL more and more and esp since she never uses blackjacks but only GZBs when referring to her followers, it means she only cares abt her fans and not the fans of the grp. anyway, we all know YG is just keeping 2ne1 as plan B in case CL’s US debut flops..those saying that it’s not true are just in denial and blind blackjacks. I would really like to believe that but the signs are so bright and bold, they can’t be ignored. anyway, I hope CL succeeds there. What I’m really worried about is Bom and Minzy..What’ll happen to them after all this? I hope Bom won’t give up on her singing career and Minzy as well..They could both leave YG & go to se7en or Gummy’s agency..I’m not that worried abt Dara since I’m confident that she’ll do well in her acting career as long as no one sabotage’s it..
I feel sad and worried when this rumor came out. I know it will happen eventually but it’s just too soon. 2ne1 as a group I think still has a lot to show us but YG being a slowpoke is just letting them become stagnant. 2ne1 has a lot of fans especially internationally. I wouldn’t have even heard about YG if not for 2ne1, and I’m sure it’s the same for some people too. But I hope if it does happen, Dara’s acting career would be so successful, it wouldn’t be too devastating & we would still see her.
And there is no guarantee that CL would be successful in her US debut. A lot has tried but failed so we’ll see how it goes. I just don’t want to feel that yg is kind of keeping 2ne1 in the backburner just in case his precious CL does not succed which might affect 2ne1 ‘s popularity as well if that happens. So far the songs that CL has been doing as a solo has not been impressive, she always does best when she is w/ 2ne1.
meh. YG always flip on what he says so only time will tell. I like what Dara has been up to lately and I hope she receives even more projects in the future.
To be honest I no longer care if 2NE1 disband or not because every time they have a comeback I get all upset over the fact that Dara only gets to sing a couple of lines. I am sick and tired of 2NE1 being treated as “CL and the girls”. CL is no Beyonce and it really doesn’t sit well with me that 2NE1 is a backup plan for when CL’s solo doesn’t met expectations. So whatever YG is going to do I no longer care.
Thank God Liana! Im so thankful there’s someone who sees it without the need of sugar coating. I think we need to see it now more than ever. She’s already in her 30’s . Yes age may not matter, but in the celeb world especially Korea. It does. Im so thankful that there are CEO’s who actually sees her worth and she deserves it and more.

Totally agree with sipthetea. It seems that YG right now is only focused with CL’s US debut and no plans for Minzy, Bom and Dara. Thanks to YGK+ CEO because she’s giving Dara’s acting and modeling career a big push. If not for her we wouldn’t even see Dara attend fashion shows or be featured solo on magazines, something YG neglected for 6 years. How about Bom, it’s been a year already until when will she reflect? I feel really sorry for Minzy, she already recorded an album as she said before but is not yet released until now, does YG have plans for her?

I wont believe anything YG says until it happens. I remember him saying that he wont let go of seven but we all know what happened after that. Right now im sure that YG has solid plans for CL and non for the others. Dara may have upcoming projects but thats not thanks to hyun suk either. Its thanks to YGK+ CEO. So until that shit actually happens then ill believe it .
