Julian Hakes Mojito Shoes

The Mojito shoe is the creation of architect Julian Hakes. He says the design happened by accident when he was trying to figure out what parts of the shoe are needed to support and protect the foot. By wrapping tracing paper around his own foot and exploring different design options, he realized that a shoe really only needs to support the heel and the ball of the foot. Everything else is extra. And so the original mojito shoe was born, an ingenious design made from a single strip that wraps around the foot, named because the prototype resembled the spiral curl of lime found in a mojito cocktail.

I am in no way an expert about a person’s feet, and I might be wrong, but I would like to disagree about only having the ball and heel of a foot that needs supporting. Although, it is true that the weight is focused more on the heel and the ball when wearing heels, not everyone wears them. I would say that it will depend the type the type of footwear a person is wearing and also, the type of the person’s foot, whether they are flat-footed or arched. Another factor would probably be the person’s balance — where they focus their weight on whether they are walking, running, or even just standing. This type of shoes might work for most, but not everyone.

Well, it does look unique and intriguing, but expensive nonetheless. Hehe.

I know he says support is only needed at the ball and heel of a foot but it still looks hard to walk in! Super cute though.
