4-member group 2NE1‘s Sandara Park has launched a “Not Ugly” campaign to give courage to those people who lack the confidence in themselves.

2NE1’s honorary Director of Public Relations, Sandara Park, updated her me2day on the morning of Tuesday, August 6th, with, “Professor Ssan with “NOT UGLY” campaign! I think I’m ugly? NO! You’re not ugly! Everyone! There are times in your life, when you might think that you are ugly! You will think that you are weak…and whatever you do, you feel you are one… But don’t think these thoughts, no no no no no!” she said.

She followed this with, “For all the people who has thought that they are ugly! Share your reason and your story on my me2day! And I as Professor Ssan, will help you see the reasons why you are certainly not ugly! I will show them to you! Starting today until the 14th! Everyone can join, men or women, old or young, all can join in! Everyone has something pretty! Inside them! Come on!” she added.

Sandara conceptualized this campaign because of their second mini album’s title song, “UGLY,” which contained messages of lacking confidence and self-esteem in the lyrics.

The song “Ugly” conveys a message of not just being unattractive in the physical appearances, but also talks about the hurt feelings and the complex wounds that dwell in people’s hearts, which made the song relatable to so many people.

Sandara’s agency, YG Entertainment said through a representative, “There are times in our lives that all of us would feel like we are ugly. However, everyone has that special element within themselves that make each one beautiful,” he said, “Through ‘Ugly’ we hope that more people would have the courage to see that through listening to the song,” he said, stating the purpose of the campaign.

On the other hand, this campaign not only generated interest within the domestic scene, but also from the international scene as well.

As soon as the campaign started with its announcement on August 6th, it already gained explosive attention from fans, with more than 7,000 responses telling them of their personal stories, only days after it was launched.

In addition to South Korea, fans from Asia like Japan, the Philippines, and Singapore, as well as fans from the US, France, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia, all participated, bringing in responses from approximately 18 countries. This situation surprised everyone, including Sandara Park.

Because of this situation, the campaign which was already extended until the 14th, was decided to extend for five days more, until the 19th.

A variety of stories came into the campaign, with teenagers worried about their looks, to young professionals, athletes, housewives, and many more, all of different ages and different professions.. All of them decided to tell their burdens to Sandara, something that they said, they could not dare to tell anyone else.

Sandara Park is expected so select 10 people who applied for the “Not Ugly” campaign, and is expected to prepare a special event to help them regain their confidence.
