2NE1′s Sandara Park: ‘I’m still the same’
K-pop star Sandara Park, member of girl group 2NE1, maintains that despite becoming famous in South Korea, she’s still the same person.
“Feeling ko wala pang nagbago (I feel that I have not changed). I’m still the same Sandara,” she told Boy Abunda and Kris Aquino when she appeared on “Abunda & Aquino Tonight,” Wednesday.
Sandara arrived in the country earlier in the day. She immediately went to appear on TV programs to promote 2NE1′s “All or Nothing” world tour in Manila, which will be held on Saturday, May 17, at the Mall of Asia Arena.
On the show, Sandara was asked how she felt that she’s now rich, famous and voted most beautiful in Korea in 2013.
“Siyempre sobrang saya ko. Nakaka-touch ako sa mga fans,” she said.
She added that there’s no secret to her beauty.
“Ay wala po. Siguro love ng mga fans. Masayahin (There’s no secret. Maybe it’s the love from the fans. [Being] cheerful.”
She also related that when she misses the Philippines, “Nanonood po ako ng mga DVDs ng Tagalog movies (I watch DVDs of Tagalog movies).”
The latest film she’s seen is “This Guy’s In Love With You Mare,” which stars Vice Ganda, Luis Manzano and Toni Gonzaga.
When the topic of training that K-pop stars go through was brought up, Sandara noted that she, too, had taken part in a few.
“Meron kaming voice lessons, dance lessons, naggi-gym kami. Meron din kaming acting lessons. Marami talaga,” Sandara shared.
She said she trained for two years while others would go through four to six years. Sandara added that she didn’t receive any salary during her two-year training. “Nahirapan po ako (It was hard),” she said, smiling.
On the topic of her wealth, she simply said, “Hindi pa ako masyadong mayaman (I’m not yet rich).”
Sandara may be living in South Korea now, but she said she still maintains her friendship with her fellow “Star Circle Quest” contestants.
“Marami pa akong friends like yung ‘SCQ’ friends ko dati. Meron akong bagong friend katulad ni Ryan Bang,” she said.
Abunda noted Sandara transformation from being shy during her “SCQ” days the powerful young lady she is now. He added that Sandara’s image today is “palaban (fighter).”
“Sa stage lang ‘yun kasi ganun yung music namin [It’s only on stage because of our music],” she said.
Speaking briefly about her brother Thunder – who is a member of the K-pop boy band MBLAQ – Sandara noted, “He’s fine.”
However, she found herself having to comment on a photo that surfaced online showing Justin Bieber giving her a peck on the cheek.
“Pumunta siya sa Korea para mag-concert. Wala lang. (He went to Korea to hold a concert. It was nothing),” she said.
As for Lee Min ho, with whom she’s had a kissing scene for a commercial, Sandara was quick to deny that the actor had courted her, insisting it was just work.
Her appearance on the talk show made the hashtags “#DaraOnAATonight” and “#WelcomeHomeDara” trend on Twitter.
