Shortly after news broke of 2NE1‘s first solo global tour, NEW EVOLUTION, it was announced that the American fashion designer Jeremy Scott would be designing the costumes for their performances. Scott is close friends with the members of 2NE1, so this collaboration came as no surprise to fans — it did however add another level of interest to the show, as fashion followers eagerly awaited the reveal of his custom creations for the quartet. Kfashionista staff had the opportunity to attend last weekend’s concert at LA’s Nokia Theatre to see these designs in action. Here is our take on the event from a style standpoint.

The girls opened the show with “I Am the Best,” taking the stage in personalized Adidas track jackets that featured airbrushed portraits of their faces on the front, and their names spelled out on the back in a graffiti-like print. Jeremy Scott’s collections for Adidas Originals is something he is well know for, and it also makes his designs more accessible for regular people; the audience was full of these items, so it was fitting for 2NE1 to wear them too.

The jackets were worn with outfits in all black, that had a liberal use of patent leather.

Dara wore pants in the super-shiny material with a mesh top.CL was in an ensemble we’ve grown accustomed to seeing her in — fishnets, high-waist shorts and a bra top. Minzy‘s look was definitely a standout success; her pantent shorts were worn with amazing matte rubber leggings. Finally, Bom sported a zip-front bustier dress that featured rows of buckles down both sides. They all wore giant, blinged-out necklaces that spelled out “2NE1″ when put together.

These stage outfits were worn through the first five songs of the show which included “Fire,” “Clap Your Hands,” the Reggae version of “I Don’t Care,” and “Don’t Stop the Music.”

CL also stayed in this look for her DJ set from a tiny podium high above the crowd while the other members left the stage.

Park Bom returned to the stage next for her solo performance of “Don’t Cry” and “You & I” where she stood atop a staircase and belted her heart out. She was wearing what can be best described as a giant butterfly robe; massive amounts of silvery-gray fabric gave way to pastel purple and pink wing/sleeves with giant patches of holographic glitter. Turning Bom into a gorgeous, winged creature is an excellent idea in theory, but the execution of this look fell flat. The singer looked frumpy which was a disappoint considering it was her time to shine.

The rest of the members returned to the stage for “Try to Follow Me” in brightly colored, sporty attire. Minzy wore a red tank top with “2NE1″ across the chest in varsity lettering, as well as a pair of red sweats that had a cheerleader-style pleated skirt attached to the rear and the very colorful Jeremy Scott fleece Adidas sneakers ($200). CL sported a familiar-looking jersey, but this one has been changed up a bit.  The original tailed tank from Adidas was once a top, but is now a dress, the split tails now form a single train; instead of “55,” the number was of course changed to “21.” Dara wore a short-sleeved, extra-long hoodie in bright yellow with her name spelled out on the front and when Bom reemerged, she was dressed in studded cheerleader uniform with a “B” on the front. Of all the members, Park Bom definitely owned her look — it was the perfect fit for her perky stage presence.

These costumes were worn through CL & Minzy’s duet of “Please Don’t Go,” as well as “Pretty Boy,” and Minzy’s solo dance performance.

When Dara performed her “sexy” version of solo song “Kiss,” she stripped off her hoodie dress to reveal her own cheerleader uniform underneath. Even though Dara looked fantastic in the outfit, it was still too cute to attempt to show off the sexy side of the singer. (Belle: Sorry, but I fail to see how Dara could not be sexy AND cute at the same time. Refer to picture above. XD)

When 2NE1 returned to the stage, they slowed it down by performing their ballad tracks “It Hurts” and “Lonely.” All four members donned stunning trench coat gowns. This unexpected style that drew inspiration from the classic khaki staple of outerwear just goes to show that Jeremy Scott has more up his sleeves than just the completely wacky designs he is widely known for. Is anyone else dying to see an evening wear collection from him now?

Another wardrobe change came for the tracks “In the Club,” “Stay Together” and their latest single “I Love You.

This time the girls wore metallic pink designs that included a mini-dress for Dara (very similar to a silver version seen on the Fall 2011 runway), a skirt and bra-top for CL, and overall shorts and a vest for Bom. Minzy stuck out a bit in her ensemble since her vest and bra top were paired with black pants that featured matching metallic panels. The pants are surely easier for the maknae to bust a move in, so all is forgiven. Scott has mentioned in the past that he draws inspiration from pop culture, cartoons and his childhood and the top CL sports is certainly reminiscent of some ofMadonna‘s iconic stage looks designed by Jean Paul Gaultierback in 1990.

For “Ugly,” there was another costume change, and the members of 2NE1 reappeared on stage one-by-one to sing their respective opening lines of the track. CL was first, in a hi-lo crop top decorated with scary monster eyes and a full set of teeth around the hem, making it appear as if her bottom half was about to be swallowed whole. Her pink shorts definitely add to the optical illusion of the mouth — monster tongue!  She also wore killer claws on each hand, a set of purple on one and teal on the other. Next came Bom, in a furry blue romper; given her reddish hair in a partial ponytail, she definitely brought to mind an image of Pebbles Flintstone all grown up. Upon close inspection, the piece appears to be covered in little eyeballs, to fit with the monster theme.

Dara was next, in what could easily be considered Scott’s pièce de résistance for this tour. The designer has noted that the late 80′s toy “My Pet Monster” has served as inspiration for several designs from both his Fall 2012 Collection and a controversial pair of sneakers for Adidas, but this time he took it one step further. He literally turned Park into one! The plucky singer rocked a dark blue hair dress complete with the character’s signature chains.

Finally, Minzy appeared in a fantastic plush cropped jacket, worn with a simple lilac top and colorful leggings that matched the dresses worn by backup dancers. 2NE1 stayed in these costumes through the songs “Let’s Go Party,” the Japanese single “Scream,” “I Hate You,” “Go Away” and “Can’t Nobody” which wrapped up the regular portion of the concert.

The group had one more costume change before coming back for the encore. They slid down giant inflatable slides and sang the original version of “I Don’t Care” as well as a reprise of “I Am the Best” while wearing the bottom halves of their custom tracksuits with different versions of their tank tops from the official tour goods, which fans could get for themselves if they braved the insanely long merchandise lines (Thank goodness for YG’s Official eBay shop!).

It was a party atmosphere in the casual styles, as confetti rained from the ceiling and will.i.am and apl.de.ap of the Black Eyed Peas even hopped on stage to dance around for the end of the show.

Blackjacks definitely deserve an honorable mention, as there was some truly amazing fashion going on in the crowd at this show. Jeremy Scott must have felt the love I’m sure, because the Nokia Theatre was full of his designs both on and off stage!

My favorite set of outfits would be the metallic pink clothes. My least favorite are the trench coats. I also wish thay Dara’s hair dress was a bit shorter. I love CL’s monster outfit.
