As usual, the competition among the trending idol girl groups has been fiercely intense in the year of 2013. They have been releasing albums left and right, filming CFs, doing individual events, and more to get their name out there.
Media outlet Dispatch ranked the top girl groups of 2013 by giving them scores based on various factors such as music album sales, music scores (based on digital charts), YouTube views, music show wins, rankings on overseas iTunes charts, number of fan cafe members, and more. Out of all the songs a girl group may have promoted during the year, the song with the best score was chosen as the standard for each category’s points.
Although the competition may have been fierce, Girls’ Generation unsurprisingly grabbed the number one spot with quite a lead, more than tripling the score of second place runner-ups SISTAR. 2NE1 ranked at #5.
2NE1 proved very popular overseas. They released “Falling in Love” in July, which became number one on seven different countries’ iTunes charts: Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Vietnam, Brunei, and Hong Kong. They got second place for YouTube points (134) with a total of 13 million views. However, their scores within Korea were relatively low because “Falling in Love” was a digital single. As they did not sell any physical albums, there were no points in that category. Their points in the promotion category were also low as YG minimized the girls’ exposure, putting them in ninth place for nine pictorials and three CFs. Regardless, they won second place for the number of fan cafe members (~ 78,000).

I am really mad right now!..I thought 2NE1 will be visible in variety shows in korea so that the public will see their other charms but what happened?..after Running man and other shows (i forgot the names) none?..also I agree to other comments here that their October comeback was delayed? on purpose?..what reason?..YG ent. should atleast have an explanation about this…Maybe this is the reason why other blackjacks left us..TT-TT~~~~~~…..PLEASE YG WE WANT 2NE1 COMEBACK JUST LIKE I AM THE BEST COMEBACK!..
I agree with all of you. I am thankful that they even came in at #5 with the lackluster support they have received from YG. He has his own agenda and 2NE1 by his actions are not high priority at this time. We know if they were given a fair shake, they would have had the chance to reach number 1. But life is not fair so what do we do? I’ve read that some fans have said because 2NE1 2 new songs doesn’t meet their expectations, they are saying goodbye. Hopefully we will continue to be there for Dara our bias and CL, Bom and Minzy thru their ups and downs.

Like WIN, the losing team will be disbanded like WTF is running in YG’s head…. Many fans especially practically screaming in his face that no need to disband because they are famous already and people love them…
Where is the promise he maid making this year as 2ne1’s year…
And releasing new songs every month…..
And where is 2ne1’s album now….
But even though that happen’s to 2ne1 they still remain number 1 to me…
I’ll try to understand YG now….
Maybe they are waiting for the right timing to release 2ne1’s new songs so that it will not flop.. Looking back to what happen to FIL and DYLM…. Those songs really are far from the songs 2ne1 release way back 2011 wherein all songs 2ne1 release was APK…..
But please YG make sure 2ne1 will not be deprive next year if ever you decide to make their comeback….
Give them and us songs that can beat the IATB syndrome…..

I think it’s so sad that YG isn’t giving 2NE1 the proper chance to be the international superstars they could be. The planned release of one song a month was a bust. The idea to release the songs first and then the mini album afterwards actually worked to the girls disadvantage on rankings. And now they seem to have been pushed to the back burner as all efforts are put forth in promoting GD’s album. GD makes good money for them and I think it makes sense to promote his album while he’s still hot. But it makes me sad that they seem to be a company that can’t seem to be able to handle promoting multiple artists equally and at the same time.
I read somewhere that in Korea, companies pay variety shows so that their artists can guest. May be that’s why 2NE1 wasn’t in a lot of shows because YG is scrimping on the fund and instead promotes GD who’s making more money for them. I’m really sad with what’s happening, look at Gummy she’s not even that visible anymore and Seven before he went to camp was more often based in Japan for shows. YG sucks in managing multiple artists! I hope he has better plans for 2NE1 soon because let’s face it Dara and Bom are in their 30’s this year already.
for me itunes result is the best that means they are more internationally hooked i hope they debu in america soon..coz thats where real compitition is..
YG please give 2NE1 some love!!!! if only YG allows them to be visible in so many shows and settle the issues between the other networks this will not happen!! i cannot simply accept this! but in the other hand this is a record for 2013 only, in 2014 i just hope YG would really focused on 2NE1!!!! seriously is this how you treat one of the most successful girl group in Korea!! if you analize the data,the no1 group points is so high in youtube views, maybe becuz they release it earlier like Feb? unlike falling in love which was released only 3months ago? and yet it affects so much with the overall score like 575 difference??does it make sense? how come youtube points is so high compare to itune sales which generate more income and shows how the music sells internationally than viewing it on youtube site???..this is so ridiculous..for me atleast..
I dont think this result will be good on MAMA 2013.. How I wish YG will treat his artist equally.. Geez! I think he is cutting 2NE1’s budget..especially now he is currently having WIN.. But still Im happy for the girls they made it to top 5 even they dont have any album sale.. Im still hoping 2NE1 album will be out this year..
this news is really sad 😦 2NE1 girls were never in any tv series so that must be the reason why the other groups are ahead of them when it comes to popularity.
We also have to take into consideration that YG is more focused in international fame rather than just in Korea, these other groups may rank high in Korea but worldwide I believe that 2ne1 is more famous.

2NE1 USED TO BE THE GIRL GROUP TO BEAT! THEY USED TO BE ALWAYS AT THE TOP. NUMBER 1 AND EVERYTHING. I REMEMBER THEM AND THOSE SNSD/POM POM GIRLS used to battle for the #01 spot. After a couple of years SNSD still talking that number 1 spot yet setteling for #5??????????? Heck even 4minute above them now.
