The song is AMAZING! Really for me (call me biased or whatever) this is gotta be the best song in the album! Dara’s voice was amazing! From the low registers at the first verse to the high pitches in the bridge! Goddess D is jjang! And of course, the other girls sounded oh so awesome as well! CL’s English is amazing and the chorus is addicting! Minzy and Bom did so so so well too and I love how they were able to show off their amazing vocals as well!
The MV’s cinematography was awesome, though a bit too dark for me, but what the heck! I loved it! ^_^
I’m sure 2NE1 will not disappoint in the charts too! ^___^

at first i thought the meaning of the song is that typical “self-esteem booster” type like “fireworks” it’s really sweet but when you’re really depressed it doesn’t help..it only mask your insecurity & make you feel ashamed of feeling that way.
UGLY is more like endulging or facing your insecurities, like its okay & natural to feel that way and you’re not violating any law or a whiney little freak..all humans feel that way, be insecure, be hateful, don’t listen to those people pretending they are concerned with you & says you’re pretty when they themselves thinks you’re not.. but don’t forget that at the end of it all, it all depends on yourself if think you are ugly or not & what will you do with it.

2NE1’s new MV is really cool. I love their hairstyle and outfit especially Dara’s hair. The song lyrics has a deeper meaning which is really happening around the world especially in the life of an idol or a celebrity in Hollywood or in a high society. That one must be “pretty” to be accepted by society which is why women go through such length of plastic surgery, Botox injection, whitening skin, of having a curvaceous body just to be “pretty”. Teddy oppa is really cool composing/writing this song. All the songs of 2NE1 are really awesome, I love how their songs has more meaning & message. 2NE1 fighting!!! ^_^
this song is a constant replay while reading your comments, i dont care about the mv just hearing dara singing is pure love!!!!! at first, i thought this kind of song fits perfectly for her voice.. she nailed the low tone of the song then i thought at the 2nd verse i would never hear dara sing again(just like the other songs wherein she has a one verse only or worse a one liner) then suddenly KABOOOM!!!!!! i heard the bridge part!!! ahhh so heavenly!!!! ugly’s better than hate you. but it’s the other way around for the mv’s. we get to see dara more in hate u, though it’s an ‘anime’ version of her. in ugly, not only do we see much less of her onscreen, they had to hide her face with that big cap 😦 it was particularly obvious in the last part. is it bcoz, the contradiction between her natural beauty and the song is too great that it’d disturb/confuse viewers?
speaking of anime, i wonder why bom is portrayed as the cute girl or the maknae in hate u mv, and in the mini-album jacket… while the other girls look/act as young women–even doing stunts.

I can’t help but cry while watching the video. I’m overwhelmed on how the girls have come this far. They already destroyed the notion that pretty girls are only allowed to join the spotlight. SNSD reference, LOL! did anyone catch that? 9 tall, leggy girls in miniskirts in the “plastic zone”, with a sublabel saying “pretty girls only”. moreover, their mouths are covered as if they’re not allowed to speak. hahaha, gotta love their subtle puns.
it’s really slight, though. it’s not about bashing pretty girls, but more about breaking/renewing the conventional beauty standards. I love how they did this. they uncovered their mouths in the beginning of the video, walked forward the whole time, and literally breaking the stores that sell their standard of beauty. it’s speaking your mind and being progressive.

first the MV. it’s bad. LOL. ok, to be nice, it is a good MV, but it’s just bad that in some frames Dara is missing. u know how SNSD fans complain when one or 2 is missing in a group shot? but u can sort of understand coz there’s 9 in the group, but in 2NE1 there’s only 4 of them. like how could u miss one member? LOL. there’s also one group shot where the light doesnt hit Dara. she doesnt have much color on her outfit so sometimes even when she’s there she’s like missing. u have to like try hard to find her. lol
i dont understand why they dont get solo shots for their solo parts in the song. that wouldve made up for it.

there’s not much part for each girl cause all of them have masks & its a really dark video.. i think Dara’s face is not the reason she doesn’t have much screen time..cause ugly doesn’t just pertain to their appearance.. i think the director focused more on how they portray the meaning of the song with their body language to give more depth to the mv.
Looks like I wasn’t the only one who noticed that the MV hardly focused on Dara…but I really thought it was DELIBERATE because…well…it’s obvious…she’s too pretty!!! It would distract from the message they wanted to convey in this song!
