Ex-PBB teen housemate Jenny Kim considers Sandara Park an inspiration

Following her exit from Pinoy Big Brother Teen Clash of 2010, Jenny Kim is surprised about the fame that reality show has brought her. She shared in an interview with ABS-CBN.com, “Iba ang feeling kasi dati normal lang ang buhay pero after ko ma-evict nakapunta ako ng mall, may mga tao naririnig ako, ‘Uy, si Jenny!’ Merong nakakakilala sa akin. Ngumingiti sila sa akin. May isang nagpa-autograph sa akin.”

Now that she’s back in the outside world, Jenny plans to go back to school as an incoming fourth year high school student, but she also keeping her doors open to other opportunities. “Pero kungmay offer sa showbiz, why not? Ha ha ha!” she laughed. The Korean lass admitted that she also once dreamt of being an actress when she was younger. “Lahat ng bata naman yata nag dream mag-artista. Ewan ko, baka naman ako lang? Ha ha ha! Parang gusto kong i-try ‘yung acting kasi mukhang masaya. Tulad ni Kim Chiu. Ang ganda niya, grabe. Multi-talented pa siya.”

But for a pure Korean who is now based in the Philippines, Jenny, or Jin Sol Kim considers Sandara Park, now known worldwide as the member of Korean pop girl group 2NE1, as a huge inspiration. “Natutuwa ako kapag napapanood ko siya. I feel proud to be a Korean and also to be here sa Philippines. Nasa Korea na si Sandara and she’s making people there very happy but at the same time pati ‘yung mga Filipino dito at ‘yung ibang Korean na nandito na proud din sa success niya. Sana ma meet ko siya one day.”

Sandara and her Korean family had been living in the Philippines for some time when she joined the reality search Star Circle Quest in 2004. Though she only finished as a runner-up in the competition, Sandara managed to enjoy a successful career in showbiz, doing teleseryes and movies. A couple of years later, she and her family decided to go back to Korea where she became part of 2NE1. Her singing and dancing training in ABS-CBN became her edge to establish a career in Korea.

Jenny also shared her thoughts on why many Filipinos have become fanatics of Korean pop music and TV series. “I believe na sa music naman it’s not about the language. Kahit anong language kung maganda talaga ang music it will really win people’s hearts. I like K-Pop and I’m thankful sa mga Filipino na gusto ‘yung K-pop. Sa Koreanovela naman parang pareho rin ang mga stories sa mga teleserye kaya siguro marami may gusto doon. I’m happy that there are Filipinos who like the Korean culture.”

The first couple of years living in the Philippines was difficult for Jenny. She revealed that she had to force herself to mingle with Filipino classmates so she could learn the language. Her efforts paid off very well because she now speaks fluent Tagalog and English, and she has also begun to love Pinoy life. “Super friendly ng mga tao. Kahit hindi mo masyado kilala kakausapin ka pa rin,” she described.

Such was the friendly atmosphere she experienced inside the PBB house, most especially with her fellow Korean housemate Ryan Bang who is her bet to be the Teen Big Winner. “Si Ryan mabait talaga and pure ‘yung heart niya, kahit mas matanda na siya sa amin. He’s funny and he takes care of others.” She and Ryan were sort of teased inside the house as a love team. “Joke lang nila ‘yun sa amin! We understand each other’s jokes kasi. I will tell him, ‘You look like bangus!’” Jenny clarified. But now that they are about to see each other after the Big Night, is it possible for romance to blossom? “For now kuya ko lang siya. Pero kung manligaw siya…maybe. Ha ha ha!”
