”Dara, I don’t think you really fit the YG image. How about becoming an actress?”
To Sandara who had even given up her popularity in the Philippines to become a singer, these words came to her as a huge shock. Working with Yang Hyun Seok had seemed like a dream come true for Sandara as she had liked Seo Taiji & Boys and copied their dances and songs from a young age. Sandara got on her plane excited about fulfilling her dream as a singer in Korea, and that under her childhood hero too.
”I was really shocked at President Yang’s words. He was right though. In the Philippines I had a teenager image, and I lacked skill as well as being ignorant about black music. But even so I never even imagined that he’d tell me to become an actress instead. It felt like the hardships had come.”
Back in 2007 when Sandara signed an exclusive contract with YG Entertainment, the singers of YG who were active at the time included highly skilled artists like Se7en, Wheesung, Gummy and Lexy. There were also countless trainees in YG looking to follow their dreams as a singer. It caused some controversy when it was reported that YG was signing Sandara.
”I think people made the judgement that I didn’t suit YG after seeing my image in the Philippines on KBS’ ‘Human Theatre’.”
Eventually, Sandara officially started off her activities as an actress. She appeared in the music video of Gummy’s ‘I’m Sorry’ with T.O.P, member of the group Big Bang. Sandara looked a little bashful as she recollected her memories from filming the music video.
”TOP is quite shy around strangers, and I’m not exactly social either so we hardly talked at the studio. My conversations with TOP consisted of only three phrases: ‘Hello. Goodbye. Good work.’ To tell the truth, we’re still awkward. (laughs)”
Her first proper step into the Korean entertainment industry was with the MBC drama ‘The Return of Iljimae’. Her role in ‘The Return of Iljimae’ was the ninja, Lee. Sandara showed an elegant charm and performed fierce action scenes.
”I filmed ‘The Return of Iljimae’ for about a week. The director and all the staff were all so nice to me. I swear they treated me better than they did to Iljimae (Jung Ilwoo) himself. (laughs) I tried really hard and it was a fun experience.”
Just as she began to enjoy being an actress, Sandara was hurt deeply and fell into a state of despair. She had been chosen for a drama, but while she was practising her lines she was suddenly dropped from the part.
”I was chosen as the lead for a masterpiece. So I’d been practising my lines and making preparations and such. But I was suddenly told that I was being dropped. It was a huge shock, I cried my eyes out.”
But Yang Hyun Seok gave Sandara a golden opportunity during her time of sorrow and despair.

I know what you mean Deshi, sometimes I want to strangle somebody’s neck. They really love to tweak some truth when it comes to our girls, unfair favoritism. They overrate some idols and always criticize our girls. I tell you I sob everytime I have to leave some comments because of anger. True, all about this Blog and to our dear Freshness is Great at all cost. But first, RL comes at first hand. But sure thing our Life on Keyboard keeps on supporting how we excel on our daily RL (real life). Thats how it affects and sometimes changed in any degree, definitely a drama on daily basis. Ok I know now to stop, its getting us in the blue hehe. Glad got this experience within my life-length world. Sure changed me a bit if not by A LOT, actually its the second one 😀

This part makes me happy and laugh because I can clearly picture them in my mind. They are awkwardly cute but I do hope they can overcome it because they will really look good and beautiful together in a Knovela like in that Gummy’s I’m Sorry MV, a favorite of mine.
hehe… it is super weird, they’ve known each other for the past 5 years already but still awkward, wonder what the other 4 bigbang doing to ease the 2.lol..

I really get so sad everytime her Star Diary Interview article comes out. I do not know how she can handle it, revisiting all these heartaches. They are making me sob and a basket case and I am just a reader and a fan.
I hope those people who decided to drop her can see her now and shove their decision down their throat because it was a flop without her. Was that the case, they just dropped her ? You know how these translations go sometimes and I am not too familiar with her real life stories yet. Was it that “19” movie with Top and Seungri or something else?
Dara – I really do wish and pray that someday your dream of acting again will come true and will be the greatest hit that Korea and the Philippines will ever see. Keep your dreams, faith and hopes and someday they will come true.

no shipping intended …merely an observation …. i got into dae’s interview in some sites earlier and realized that tabi and dara do have common personalities …. tabi is quite shy when it comes meeting new people but dorky to the people he are close with same goes with dara …. tabi knows how to say no when he does not like it and reading from dara’s diary, dara is like that too … and of course out of their fellow members ,they both are good actors … well hope that they will not be awkward with each other anymore coz based on my observation with those two personalities alike, they can really get along so well …..

Actually, the moment TOP said, on 2NE1TV, that when he met her he was like, “Aaaahh, someone a lot like myself” I began to notice how similar they actually are.
This isn’t shipping either, it’s just common things in their personalities. The stuff that you’ve pointed out, definitely. How they are with their families, is another. They’re both incredibly protective of their families who are not in the industry. Their love for toys, even. Even their drive is quite similar, if you’ve seen BB’s old docu.
I agree that they could become really good friends if they actually had time to bond or something. Or if they overcome their awkward shyness with each other because of the whole blown up “scandal”.

yup the ‘kiss’ sort of made into a scandal because some of TOP’s fangirls hated the fact that TOP gets to kiss a girl haha. Like it was a huge issue back then. Dara was his first on-screen kiss. that might just be the reason they’re soo damn awkward with each other.
I don’t care that much about pairings to be honest, (Okay, I WAS an addict shipper. I spazz a loooot haha) coz I want Dara to grow as Sandara Park and completely get away from the ‘loveteam’ stereotype.

I ship Dara with almost everyone, but since I have little patience with too much spazzing/tinhatting by other people, I really try very hard not to refrain from spazzing publicly. And I stopped tinhatting a long time ago, it become quite disappointing. Hahaha. Golden rule and all. I just plaster on my huge gleeface and cackle in a corner, like a madwoman. 😉
That being said, however, I would always immediately go for Dara by herself rather than sticking her with anyone else. Unless it’s 2NE1. :p I’m very Dara-biased. :p
I am not anti-shipping and I ship all pairings that our Dara is in.
I am just hoping that someday one of them will come true. Let’s face it, Dara is like a universal leading lady. You can pair anybody with her and it will bring “kilig”, very Dara-biased.
Her beauty compliments any Boy she will be paired with. It is her irresistible sweet smile that we know that no boy or girl can resist and whoever it will be will react happily or lovingly, hence a chemistry.
i have supposed to have a long POV on this but decided to keep it to myself coz I dont want to get out of context again …. it is just amusing that my replying to you become a POV in shipping …it was just an observation of mine regarding top and dara , i really meant on what i said that my OTP had NO intentions in shipping …

Hi scarlet, I do love Dara individually because I believe in her strength as a person. I guess it all just changed or triggered that day when she said in her Mitu something about lonely and ready for love. So I started dreaming with her for her quest for that “Boy”. Love her and just wishing she will be loved and be happy someday.
Top and Dara reminds me of The Beauty and the Beast chemistry. But of course Top is the handsomest Beast.
