2NE1 Declines Invitations to Year-End Awards Ceremonies, Only CL to Attend SIA for Collab Stage
It has been revealed that 2NE1 will not be attending any of the music awards ceremonies that will be held at the end of the year.
On October 24, a representative of YG Entertainment told TV Report and Star News, “After releasing and promoting their second full-length album, [2NE1] has been receiving many invitations to attend awards ceremonies. However, we have respectfully turned them down. It is a great honor for a singer to be invited to an awards ceremony and be congratulated, but we have decided after much consideration that [taking time for] reflection, and refraining from activities is the right thing to do at this time.”
However, it has been confirmed that CL will be the only member in attendance at this year’s Style Icon Awards (SIA), opening up on October 28, in order to take part in a collaboration stage.
CL will be collaborating with American DJ Diplo, who has also produced for world-famous artists such as Usher, Beyonce, Justin Bieber, Chris Brown,and Bruno Mars, to put on a very special performance.
In terms of 2NE1’s upcoming activities, the YGE rep shared, “We are focusing on CL’s U.S. debut around the beginning of next year. With American reps visiting Korea these days, CL has been busy with recording. She will be going back and forth between her American promotions and 2NE1’s comeback.”

I Hate you YG…. I thought SM is the worst agency…
But when I analyze the situation… SM talents can be successful as an individual or a group… But YG never allowed that…… For YG his faith is still with Bigbang and CL….
So who’s the worst??? YG or SM??
For me YG…. I envy SNSD because they can be successful as an individual… They are busy and active even they are not a group….
Sometimes I’ d rather choose SM than YG… Because SM can handle many successful idol simultaneously while YG will give up others to give way to one idol…. Or give up one group to give way to his new group.. SM has lot issues/scandal but.. still there’s Super Junior. DBSK and exo, SNSD and others… whose successful in their chosen field… SM makes yoona successful together with other members… SM can handle that… They allow each member to be successful in what their doing… Well in Jessica’s case maybe there was a deep issues with her….
We also have SM artists fainting left and right, so I’d choose YG. PLus they have a lot freedom when it comes to producing materials, while SM only a few options. Also we don’t see YG artists suing the company..
For me, quality over quantity. That’s why I choose YG.
If YG doesn’t always promote idols simultaneously, it can only mean that when a certain group or idol promotes, his focus is more undivided.
I also think that YG allows members to do what they want to do. Look at the members doing something that isn’t 2NE1-related in their own time. And they enjoy what they are doing, too.
even if their group needs salvaging in korea, it doesn’t mean they cant make it in the US. i wonder what will.i.am thinks about the “wasted” recordings they did back in 2010 or 2011. of corz, that probably happens also often in the US. but if that english album does push thru, they have to record again coz for 1, dara’s voice has gotten stronger since then.
Why do they all have to be absent? Can’t Minzy and Dara just attend as 2ne1’s reps they don’t necessarily have to perform just be in the celebrities corner and mingle with other idols – or they can appear as moral support for other YG acts like Winner, AKMU and Epik High
I think attending without participating (meaning performing or doing jobs like being an MC) will affect their image. To be in their presence is amazing and all that but when you go to gatherings, it’s nice to have some sort of “purpose”, don’t you think? To keep people from asking, “What are they even doing here?”
In a way, I feel that they can still be of moral support to their fellow YG artists without being a “formal” guest in the event itself. So I think that not attending is also a way of protecting their image and the girls themselves. And what would Bom feel 2NE1 goes incomplete and the fans react to it? We must also consider that.
Attending or not attending, let’s support 2NE1. 🙂
I agree with u . why does Dara and Minzy need to “reflect” too? Let them do variety shows for minzy and dramas for Dara. There’s no need for the 2 of them to languish in the YG basement.
Sigh.. another sad news. I know that YG is promoting their latest talents and 2ne1 is probably gonna rest but at least I was hoping to see 2ne1 on these year ends awards event since deserves to win something. More sad coz Dara, bom, minzy is again being push aside for the sake of YG’s fave girl. Sorry, i love 2ne1 coz of Dara and im not gonna be a hypocrite, i won’t give a sh$t if YG’s fave girl will fail or not.
I’ll just keep praying that one day YG would change his mind and give DARa a drama or movie project.
Am I the only one who thinks it’s a wise move? There are a lot of Bom bashers in the internet.I think YG did this to protect 2NE1 as a whole because every move Bom makes, they criticize. They need to lay low. As much as I would love to see them do the “IN YOUR FACE HATERS” performance of Crush + Come Back Home at MAMA 2104, I think it would only aggravate the hate going around. Although it’s a really bad timing and they deserve the Best Artist, Best Album and Song of the Year Awards, it’s the best option right now. For sure, MAMA 2014 is incomplete without the queens who slayed 2014. Let it be. Knetizens need to reflect too. 😛
No you’re not alone there. I think it’s best to keep it low for now. Remember what happened to T**** girl group after that twitter fiasco. They got so much hate because they had a pre-mature comeback. The Bom “comments” are just so hateful these days, I feel so sorry for her. But even if they don’t win any awards this year, we do know they did better especially digitally than those who released within the same month..
Exactly! Attending music awards is not going to interfere with CL’s US solo debut. It’s exposure and the awards that she can brag in the US! However, there’s a problem. Bom and 2NE1 bashers will take this opportunity to spread hate. In the end, YG chose to save 2NE1 as a whoIe. I don’t think YG will let 2NE1 disband. Just think who in YG would be competing on SM’s SNSD, f(x)? JYP’s Miss A? YG’s new girl group wouldn’t them yet.
Well let;s not be sad. Big Bang also havent had a comeback after their last. But I hope they give a solo to Minzy and an acting career to Dara since originally she was an actress. I also understand Papa Yg. Bom is still getting so much hate. I don’t think I’d want to see her performed and be dissed by haters.Let’s be patient, they will rise just like Daesung did a few years ago.
Everything is always for the good for those who believe in God! I maintain high hopes that Dara will still get her movie or drama and that Minzy wll get her solo. Bom will rise again!
Dara deserves another solo just like her Kiss…with a beautiful story for its movie vid. Bom will have her solo too or collabs. She and Dara don’t look 30 at all. No worry on that score.
Why cant the three continue w/o CL? Some of the SM groups split to accommodate members who have other projects.
Minzy can easily handle CL’s type songs/raps and Bom with her beautiful voice and Dara’s soft melodic one can handle the 2ne1 songs easily or have YG create new ones for the 3.
Why is Bom made to suffer over something that is not even true? Don’t tell me there won’t be any projects for the 3 w/o CL. CL does not have the monopoly of talent.
YG can’t be that heartless with the millions of fans this group or the remaining 3 have. They cannot just have all that training and popularity go to waste! That would be counterproductive.
