They didn’t call the number 21 lucky for nothing! Let me share with you our experience of getting to meet 2NE1 and Se7en while they were taking a morning stroll on the streets of Seoul.

It happened while we were on our way to watch MBC Music Core during our visit to Seoul, South Korea. (I’m still here for a couple more days!) The photos above are (from left to right) the fans waiting in line, the entrance to MBC, and a stolen photo of the stage after the performances.

We woke up a little late — we planned to be at the MBC building by 9 AM, but got there at around 10:30 instead. After we got off the subway station, we walked aimlessly for a bit, before finally getting directions from a lady in the park. Because it wasn’t lunch yet (stores and restaurants tend to open at 12:00 here in Seoul), there were very few people, if any at all, walking around. So while we were getting ready to cross the street, I suddenly saw a flash of BLONDE, then a head of BRIGHT RED HAIR. And then a huge, lanky guy in shades.

I stopped (and so did my heart) and told my friends — ‘Guys, I think it’s 2NE1′.

My friend and I were actually already joking on the train about what we would do if we saw Sandara, and I said I’d shout her name. So before I could even process anything in my mind, I shouted: ‘SANDARA! PILIPINO KAMI!’ { Sandara! We’re Filipinos! }

At first, she didn’t turn around when I called out her name, but when I shouted that we were Filipinos, she stopped and — get this, waited for us to cross the street. (SWEETEST GIRL EVER.)

So these are the major parts of our conversation:

Us: Hi, puwede ba kami magpa-picture sa inyo? { Hi, can we take a picture with you guys? }
Dara: *talks to her manager, then back at us with a guilty expression* Naku, sorry, di puwede eh. Wala pa kasi kaming make-up. { Sorry, we can’t. We still don’t have make-up on. }
Us: Ah… um. Manunuod kami ng Music Core! Paano ba manuod n’on? { We’re going to watch Music Core! How can we watch? } *We already knew how, but we didn’t know what else to say!*
Dara: Kailangan niyo ata ng ticket eh! Kukuha muna kayo ng ticket (etc etc) { I think you need a ticket! You have to get a ticket first (etc etc) }
Us: Ahh… Saan ba yun? { Where’s the building? } *LOL in an effort to prolong the conversation, we asked Sandara, of all people, for directions. HAHAHA*
Dara: *points to us the way*
Us: Okay, thank you!!!
Dara: Sige, ingat kayo! { Okay, take care! }

At least these were the parts that I remember! I was so flustered, disoriented and caught in disbelief that some parts are really just a blur in my head. But I swear on my life, this conversation happened, and I have three other friends to attest to its truth.

Since we weren’t allowed to take any photos or videos, the best I could do was to take a stalker video from behind as they walked away. This is not the best video because 1) I was shaking insanely, and 2) We didn’t want to be disrespectful, so we had to be really discreet.

But anyhow, I give you the best documentation I could get (which looks something out of The Blair Witch Project). Please prepare for a bit of nausea.

As my friend said, it seemed like the KPop fairy was with us on this trip! Not only did we get to watch Music Core and the epic JYJ concert, but we got to meet 2NE1, Se7en and even got to talk to Sandara Park! CL is as fierce as she usually is on screen, and Park Bom is ultra-white and skinny! Her red hair is even more incredible in real life. This is definitely going into my Surreal Life Experiences list 🙂

My tips on how you can meet KPop stars on the street: Come early, and don’t behave like an aggressive, disrespectful fan so they won’t drive you away.
