Haha I love reading the comments because being a die hard Dara fan myself even before she debuted with 2ne1 I already liked her because of the care and love she had for the Philippines which still amazes me to this day because surely as a korean in the Philippines she could have been easily outcasted and made fun of however she was able to break out of her shell and embrace the culture as opposed to staying introverted her whole life. But anyways there seems to be people who get really hung over peoples critiques and I can understand why because since Dara has been known to the public I’m pretty sure she had a lot of antis even during her SCQ days. Anyway I’m not gonna sugar coat myself and say that Dara is perfect in everything she does because clearly that is not the case because to me there’s still a lot she has to work on and the group as a whole. To me the only critique that I can think of is the projection of her voice I’m not trying to saying that her voice is bad or anything it’s just if I can hear her clearer than the backtracking than i’ll be immensely happy that’s all im looking forward too of hers and hopefully the audio engineers aren’t being douches and are purposely putting the backtrack volume higher when it’s her turn. So hopefully I didn’t get anybody annoyed/mad because just like you im a die hard fan as well for like about five years now and by pointing out some of the things she has trouble with it’ll make her even better as a performer. Can’t wait until she is improves even more muahahaha.
@yarg, as a new fan of Dara, I know less of her compared to you. But in that short time of knowing her from her old movies and some documentaries, I learned to love her ways, her being, her abilities and her not so abilities.
But I also want to point out to you that not all famous singers or celebrities even here in the US sound good in live performances. Some do need a lot of audio editing for their records and when you listen to them live, you will wonder why they have a record and call themselves as singers.
In famous groups too, rarely you will find a perfect one with perfect Members. Let us go KPOP, the WonderGirls, we all know one of them cannot even chant nor sing, she is just way too cute but they become famous.
That is why I do not understand the rational why Dara’s avid fans who are still going on and on about her need to improve. 2NE1 has already been very successful since their debut, we got to love and support them as a whole.
Dara is already a good performer, can you hear the crowd and the audience clamoring for her? Her Korean fans already love her as she is, funny, witty, eloquent and her beautiful expressions, her singing is just a plus.
Unknowingly, these criticisms whether one calls it constructive can be blown out of proportion by people who are not fans and be used against her and us as fans. I also do not mean for us to be blind or deaf and foolishly throw praises on her. Dara is already working very hard and she is capable of being more. In the future, she can be more of an actress or emcee on variety shows. Let us just celebrate her success as a 2NE1 member at the moment, for this too may pass.

i want to congratulate the girls for a superb perf during the KBS special even if the genre of the song is not their forte it was one great perf.
for those who says that dara’s soft voice is her weakness let me first say that it is actually not. among all the members dara has the sweetest and has a very unique tone which for the record is really hard to mimic. my friend who studies musics says that it’s the hardest to copy coz she has the hardest notes and the melody is different from the other. even if she has small parts when singing she has the hardest one.belting is not that hard to do so long as you know how to sustain.
do you realize that sandara would usually cover the second voice of who ever is singing because her sweet voice can balance out the full and strong voice of the one singing which makes the song more catchy and melodic. It’s harder to sing the second voice’s part than to sing the solo part. try it guys.
i’m not saying that she is the best. we know that she is not. she admits is as well. but it’s better for her to be that way because she can have plenty room for improvement and that we can always wait for her and anticipate what she will be doing next.
i love 2NE1 so i want them to improve and that they be better this 2010. AJA!

wow, i think you know real music. i dont know music at all but been reading lately that dara’s voice range is difficult to follow. but one thing i notice her voice blend well with every yg artists voice. read in a yt link that her arrangement keys are that same of beyonce. happy new year.

I may have not studied Music but have sung in Church choirs and joined and won some Music competitions in school.
If you listen carefully in their performances, Dara’s second voice can fill in the gaps and makes it more harmonious. She does not overpower the lead. If you listen to the third song “Don’t say Goodbye”, it is a little messy because somebody is a bit louder than Lee Seung Chul who is little off tune and nasal.
My point is what I have said already before we can never compare and compete these girls with each other. Each one has their own forte which makes them whole as a group. Of course, our Dara is a grown and matured girl, but I guess she does not need any kind of criticism from her lovable fans, antis are already everywhere. She needs SUPPORT, MOTIVATION and INSPIRATION from us. She is a smart girl who already knows what she is able and not able to do. She already has accepted her shortcomings and work hardest to improve which we also should accept. The girl is already doing her very best for herself and her fans, even TY is worried and YG appreciates.
For me as a mother, in my eyes Dara will always be perfect…
it’s ok that Dara didn’t do so well in Fire because they’re not really singing there…..they’re like chanting or something…
if you’ll listen to their IDC performance she was very good in there bcoz they’re really singing not merely chanting…..

the girls did an awesome performance. the first two songs rendered were beautiful, i love how the girls blended well. minji did great, so far i believe she has the best vocals, i love her voice and personally im rooting this girl to be one of the top singers someday. dara was freaking gorgeous as usual, fanboys were everywhere. if my memory serves me right mcmong is dara’s fanboy. please take a look at LSG and mcmong when the 2ne1 girls approached the stage, kk. surely everyone here in oh dara loves dara,lol… and should criticisms toward by our fellow fans should be taken in a positive way and in polite manner? i believe dara is very much open to these criticisms thats why she recognizes her weaknesses and works hard to improve them. she is level-headed and still remains humble because she acknowledges her liabilities. of course i dont want to compare dara to the other 2ne1 girls since each of them has different capability and individuality but this is not unavoidable…gosh everyday we encountered comparisons and that s undeniable, however, i realize some fans are so sensitive about this but what the heck we are all supporters and there in no reason why we have to argue for just pure contradictory opinion, k. as for me when you say kpop, kpop is dara…i have been in kpop since dara started her career in korea, from gummy mv, return of iljimae cameo, lollipop cf up to now…dara evolves, she has grown, developed and improved maybe we fans should do the same too…peace.

It’s good that they showed the practice scenes initially because it shows you how the girls look before they transform into their stage persona. It really depicts the saying, “Do not judge a book by its cover.” The girls stage presence are really good. Make-up, clothes, and mood with matching confidence matches well with the ballad music. This was a good collaborative performance as it showcases the group’s versatility and a glimpse of their future growth towards all forms of music.
Before I proceed, let me first state that I think Dara, a mature and professional person that she is, will be open to honest and constructive criticism. That being said, I still refuse to compare her with other artists, specially within the group. My reasoning for that is every living person has its own identity that makes each one original. Hence, I think it will be unfair to compare and try to make Dara conform to look and sound like one of the other artists. I would hate that because Dara would not be Dara anymore — and the last thing I want is another clone of some other person. As far as Dara on the KBS Gayo, she does not only have a very strong stage presence (look, aura, charm), she also has a good stage performance (facial expression, body language, singing, etc). A good stage performance that has the potential to become greater.
Dara, for only a short amount of YG training time (less than 2yrs), was able to progress enough to be included in the group. I can just imagine how much farther she can go in the next few years. I can’t say that she does not have a strong voice because it has a different range, tone, and style than others. The tempo, style, and range (pitch) vocals today are good. I think Dara needs to be more comfortable (and be more confident) of her vocals, so that the tone can be more relaxed and at the same time, she’ll be able to project her voice louder. Personally, I like the sound of her voice. Apart from all the “strong” voices lately, Dara’s mellow and soft voice is like a welcoming wind blowing in my direction that refreshes me from warmth of the sun. Her voice blends well with the surroundings now, and given more time and training, I think it will not only have the ability to blend, but to take command over the surroundings. With her vocal range and style now and the progressions of the tone, it can be fully develop into a distinct sound in the kpop future. I would like her to advance into that level. Like what YG said before, Dara has the drive and persistence to do the impossible possible.

And aside from what yunhae said, I just need to say this… Dara fans are not blinded by adoration for Dara. It’s just that, i guess, having so many Dara antis (thank you for taking the time to notice our Dara, you’re making her more popular, thank you very much :)) and so-called critics out there can also be emotionally taxing for most of us who truly believe in Dara, specially when the criticisms are not constructive or has a pretentious and/or sarcastic undertone. As fans, we acknowledge her weakness, but moreso, we acknowledge and appreciate her improvements and her strengths. 🙂

Minji will surely go very far. She has a great voice, my favorite among the 4 members. Dara performed well, but in the first song, you can’t help but compare her with the others, since the three has powerful voices (louder?). I hope they can find her a song that will really showcase her sweet voice. I like how she performed in ‘I don’t Care’ because I can really hear her voice.

hi len2. I’m one of the die-hard fans of Dara, and I didn’t mean the comment to be a negative criticism, but just an honest observation. I didn’t say she didn’t do good, she actually did well, but I’m also not blind not to see that in the first song she made to look like the weakest because aside from her lines were the shortest, her voice was a tad too low (i don’t know the exact term but I hope you get what I mean), and it was more highlighted because the previous singers (the other members) sang louder (their voice had more strength). Dara knows her weakness, and she’s the first one to admit that, that’s why she’s working very hard to improve, and she has improved greatly in just a span of two years. Also, this is not a question of her being beautiful inside and out, that’s why I’m a huge fan of her because of that…you can check my comments here and in other websites on how I defend Dara from her detractors. I’m sure Dara would appreciate an honest criticism that will help her improve, and not just blind shipping.
I am just sick of ppl saying the same thing over and over again. The girl is trying so hard to keep up and ppl always comparing her to the other 3. If youre a die hard fan which I dont get because you just said that Minzy is your favorite. Why can we just be happy and move on? I’m sure that’s what she always get at YG, and you can see she appreciates them so much, and she’s working hard to show her gratitude for helping her to improve. As for comparing, I think it’s a very normal human thing to do, just ask yourself honestly if you have never done any comparing among 2ne1 members or in any groups in KPOP. What is not acceptable is when you compare by bashing a member or leaving a derogatory comment, which I think I didn’t do in my last comment. hi. just want to say. “love is so difficult” made me want to hear more Dara (and i know i’m not alone :p). just like listening to stay together, the difference of voice from the others makes me anticipate her parts in the song’s arrangement. i dont think this performance made her voice look weak compared to the others (or maybe those who would think so dont know what they’re saying and needs to orient themselves more on music… lol ) … rather, it showed how “different” her voice is (in a good way). that it’s soft sweet mellow and unique. it showed how its contrast to the soulful quality of the other’s voices adds more dimension/flavor as it provides a different “feel”. and her voice also makes great on harmonizing with the three. whether it may be minzy bom or cl.
spicy+spicy = same flavor. spicy+sweet=a whole different taste. i hope this is what people would realize as well. some may be stuck with what dara was in the past that they fail to see what’s good in NOW. it’s great that dara is seen as “ever improving”. but her improvements are almost always judged from how weak she was and not on how she’s “already good” and got “better”. she still has some things to work on. i agree she needs to project her voice more. though not as much as it is screaming (lol) … the softness of her voice is part of its charm for me. been hearing lots of those so-called “powerful” type of voices that Dara’s is just what it claims to be… reFRESHing… -> hope what i said made some sense, lol
